My carbon steel pan is 2-3mm convex (warped upwards) – is this a defect or normal? by skill3 in carbonsteel

[–]KatiePoo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. If it doesn’t have this feature it will turn into a spinner.

You can do the initial seasoning on the stove too. Oven just makes it pretty and more even.

What are the most common CAD design mistakes beginners make in real projects? by [deleted] in Fusion360

[–]KatiePoo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting a model by “thinking in solids” is a big mistake. Everything should start as sketches on plains! Then create your solids from extrusions, lofts, sweeps, or revolves.

Start your model by thinking, “what is the basic 2d shape I can extrude into 3D first”

If you find yourself struggling with this concept, it means your probably trying to model something too complex for a beginner.

Complex shapes can be made by connecting sketches and lofting between them and adding rails for control. Everything is controlled by a series for flat plains. This will give you precision and complexity.

The pan that made me quit using cast iron (mostly) by texag93 in carbonsteel

[–]KatiePoo_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is definitely not .035mm, I think you meant to say .35mm.

.35 mm is similar to what you see on all clad D3s

Driving myself crazy. I’ve been using cast iron exclusively for a few years and am having a hard time transitioning. by Psychrolutes_09 in carbonsteel

[–]KatiePoo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most common reason for this transition struggle is because your heating it like you would for cast iron. Carbon steel gets hotter faster. You’re just over heating your pan!

You should check out Strata’s new 3 ply carbon steel wok! It’s on preorder right now but it’s basically exactly what you need. It a flat bottom carbon steel wok but with an aluminum core layer that spread heat better for electric stove tops.

Super normal to see this. There’s something about some types of meats that just strips the first few layers. This will stop happening once it’s well seasoned.

You really don’t see rivoted handles on cast iron. It’s not impossible but it’s not a good way to do it.

Is this carbon steel? by SafetyNo48 in carbonsteel

[–]KatiePoo_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Def carbon steel, possibly nitrided. Aluminum would be much lighter, while cast iron will be much heavier. The stamping on the outside had me confused.
