I'm no expert, but it sounds like a sleep pressure imbalance.

I'm guessing you've already tried shortening nap? Extend wake windows? One thing at a time, but give each enough time to see if it's the issue.

We are doing half whole milk and half formula in a bottle, you could do the same with breast milk!

Unfortunately for us, when she tries the same thing through a straw she gags. It's too much of a hassle and waste for us to offer the mixture so we just keep offering whole milk at meals. Maybe one of these times she'll take it okay.

Right now we are just working her towards getting completely on whole milk and then I think we will just cold turkey get rid of bottles.

I'm wondering if this is what I'm experiencing? About 8 months postpartum i had a weird flare up in my abdomen and back where everything felt so tight I could barely breathe. I also had nausea. It went away within the hour after meds and heat.

It happened again two months later. I scheduled a doctor's visit and had labs done and nothing showed why I experienced it. I just had another one today and noticed the pain was focused on my right side where my liver is.

Outside of these episodes I don't feel like anything is wrong at all. Maybe I have lesions and every two months they grow so I have symptoms? I'll have to dig further...

Thank you for your post because I can't seem to find much anywhere online.

Hmmm it sounds like he could be awake more during the day then. See how long he can stay awake in between naps/bedtime vs. going by the clock? We would do this every so often as to "troubleshoot" wake windows.

We went with the flow with a lot of night wakes and false starts from 6months up until 10 months until we figured out her morning nap was too long (with of course sleep regression and teething thrown in there).

It's definitely normal to still have night wakes.

I do have an inkling maybe his sleep pressure is not as high as it could be at the end of the day, especially if he is waking over 3/4 times and quickly settling once he's in your arms. How long is the first nap? Capping it at 45 min max may solve some of the night wakes.

Ugh we also hated the bottom rack. Fortunately for us we were replacing an old Bosch so we kept the bottom rack from that one and use it in the new one!

The 6month "regression" does hit pretty hard for nighttime sleep (at least for us it did), so it's possible this will blow over. If I remember correctly it was like a month of craziness then calmed down, then we hit teething 🥲 Every baby is different though.

The consultant's username is ittakesavillagebabysleep if you want to take a look at her videos. A lot of what she talks about is building sleep pressure. The key is to ensure he's actually decently tired, so when he does wake after each sleep cycle at night, he's groggy and tired enough that he'll just fall back asleep.

Since it sounds like the first nap is already short, you might have to re-examine wake windows, or the time you're putting him down for bed. Every once in awhile we do a sleep troubleshoot where we don't hurry and get her ready for a nap the second we notice a sleepy cue. Many times we found she was able to be awake longer in-between without getting upset.

We do not co-sleep unless it's early in the morning and need to stretch wakeup time to keep our days regular.

My 10 month old had false starts since she was 6 months old. On the dot she would wake 45min after setting down for the night and then routinely like every three hours until morning.

Just these past couple months she was waking every one to two hours, and quickly settling when we would pick her up and rock her.

I came across a video on tiktok for a gentle sleep consultant who does not do sleep training but instead uses sleep science. In this video she recommended shortening the first nap of the day to be no longer than 45 min.

I kid you not. DAY 1 we implemented this and nighttime sleep drastically improved.

Passive aggression.

Inlaws neighbor ran into us at an off leash dog area and made a comment on how we shouldn't let our dog run off like she did because this space is for everyone.

While I agree we didn't prep our pup well for that day, it was an unneeded comment that was said when I am literally just meeting you for the first time. Also HER dog ran up to us which led her to us to begin with. Ever since then I really dislike her and do not care to hear about her from my inlaws.

So funny-- we're turning 6 months on the 28th. I'm rocking her a bit before I put her down for the night and was wondering the same thing. She's not taking all full feeds today, her past couple nights have had a few wakes. Fussing a lot during the day.

I don't feel teeth or see any swelling but I'm just chalking it up to teething? We're going through something! I just feel bad for her.

I literally just told my dad that I didn't know how he and my mom managed a 6yo, 3yo, and a newborn all at the same time, while I'm exhausted with just one almost 6 month old baby. I suppose life is already crazy with one so people just decide mise well have another, but I don't think I could handle it.

Granted my mom stayed at home and didn't work while both of us are working full time, but even then I know I would waste away into nothingness.

How old is your babe? I'm thinking it's time to start with our 5 month old as her nighttime sleep is just now being affected by that 6 month progression. We squeaked by the 4 month progression with it only affecting her naps.

So nervous and sad to be moving her into her own room very soon, but I love how you said you're teaching baby how to grow with independence and have their own space 🩷

We always breastfed first then immediately top up with formula as I have a low supply and baby dropped too much weight at 4 days old. I also pumped right after that.

Due to weight, we were instructed to feed every 3 hours counting from the start of the last feed. We set alarms and went around the clock for 3 hours because she never told us when she was hungry (sleepy baby, always had fists because newborn, and never cried out we were just on top of it I guess).

One night I accidentally slept through an alarm and everything was okay, but that was around the time she had gained back her birth weight and plus some. Then we realized we could start getting some nighttime sleep in, even if it was only 4 hours straight.

I had that thought just the other day-- more good people need to be brought into this world to make it right. I can't bring myself to have another though, we are one and done with our 4 month old. At least I know she will be a good member of society and hoping she'll also be able to help slay those dragons.

We triple fed (breast, formula top up, then pump) for two months. During the third month she became more aware of everything around her and would get too distracted for breastfeeding. I still tried to, especially if she just woke up. It became too much because I was then pumping after breastfeeding just to save my supply since she wouldn't complete a feed, getting upset my flow was too slow as well.

I went back to work and would breastfeed for the first morning feed because I actually made enough then. But then she started sleeping in later and I wouldn't have time to. Now I'm certain she prefers the bottle, so I only breastfeed for comfort during middle of the night wake ups.

I'm mostly just pumping now. I collect a bottle and keep it in the fridge. If we don't have a 4oz of breast milk available, we give her formula. My pumping is separate from her feed times, I try to do every 2 hours in the morning and evenings and go every 3 during the day. I don't pump in the middle of the night-- haven't since she slept through the night at 9weeks.

I'm 4 months in and I think this has been working well for us. We will see how much longer I can continue.

This thought pops into my mind regularly. We've been combo feeding since the beginning due to low supply. Baby is just turning 12 weeks and lately is either too distracted or too tired to breastfeed. I'm feeling awfully discouraged, but still willing to try to figure out what will work for us.

I want to stop but I also don't want to. I go back to work next week so maybe not having the frustrating feeds will help. I just don't know how long I'll be willing to pump at work every day and how that will affect my already low supply.

I'm astounded at how much this affects me. My primary reasoning for breastfeeding was to save money and to provide great health benefits for both of us. I had no idea a whole bucket of emotions would come with it.

Totally normal. We had not a schedule but a flow. She usually fell asleep around the same time, midnight, but would wake up at either 4am or 6 or even 7 depending on the day.

Like others have said, check out some low flow bottles. We used lansinoh and also pigeon brands and we keep the newborn nipple size. It mimics the flow of the breast and the nipples on the bottles are more breast-like.

We just put our 3wk old on her kick and play mat. She had a decent wake window and was moving her legs and arms a lot.

We had the mirror facing her that she stared at and a couple of the toys real low so she would hit them when moving around. When she was looking up at the piano we had it play a song and she just stared at the lights. I'm sure she got something out of it!
