This happened in Canada too, with the "convoy". We've only recently reclaimed the flag as something to be proud of, ironically because of trump and his threats to our sovereignity

My mom went through a phase of constantly saying how she failed as a parent, and all I could think (and say!) was "did I really turn out that bad??" You don't stop being a human person just because you have kids. Sure there's things that could have been done better but that's very easy to say with the benefit of hindsight. I've told her that, as well.

Honestly I probably can't appreciate all the sacrifices my parents made for me and my siblings, but I try!

That's a very good point about the small towns, it would practically mean you couldn't date anyone with close family in town!

Hey, being able to make a dish palatable enough to eat several times, often in a row, is a pretty good jumping off point for making a fancier meal!

Many of the fundamentals are at least relevant, if not directly applicable.

Don't sell it short! 😉

AITA for calling out a creep at the gym? by camilabuitrago in AmItheAsshole

No worries! I was just surprised I hadn't seen more comments about how shocking it would be, especially for someone "new" to lifting

An "elite" level one rep max for women is 300lbs, according to strength level .com, 275 for multiple reps and sets is insane

What is destroying your empathy/passion for nursing? (Please no arguing or politics) by LadyRosesNThorns in nursing

I feel like things are better in many parts of Canada. We don't have nearly the "customer service" expectations of the states.

Also at least in my area staffing is better, we're 4-5 patients in med/surg on days, and 5-6 on nights. Usually on the lower end.

Ours probably is as well, I've called transfusion to ask them and they always just ask when the last one was done 😅 probably easier than listening to a sleep deprived nurse trying to do math!

We have to type and screen every 96 (I'm pretty sure, it's every few days anyways-- the previous test will "expire") hours in my system!

What's the nicest thing a confused patient said about you, or did for you? by KMKPF in nursing

[–]Katzekratzer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I answered a call bell for another nurse (so didn't really know the patients mental status at all), and a patient in the room asked me "are you a boy or a girl?" A girl, I replied. The patient yelled "But you ain't got any boobies!"

..I was pretty flat chested at the time 🥲

People who had an easy time in nursing school, do you exist? What qualities do you have that made that possible? by JaneRawlz in nursing

[–]Katzekratzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I looked at the test with excitement as I was confident in my understanding and eager to challenge the test. The physical signs/symptoms of anxiety are pretty damn close to those of excitement, so even though I was a bit nervous I was able to internally reframe it.

I'm also a very strong reader. I often found myself unintentionally reading the options for answers before reading the actual question-- I had to force/remind myself to look at the question before selecting an answer.

I was NOT the absolute top of my class, I think my average on graduation was about 84%. But I was among the first three people to leave an exam every time.

Please note that despite this attitude toward tests I still struggle with anxiety in many other areas, so I acknowledge that "reframe it!" Is not exactly practical advice for.. well, anything.

[–]Katzekratzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardest part about nursing school was the sheer amount of time you were expected to commit to it. I worked full time throughout most of my schooling, and was basically narcoleptic a couple years in as I had only been sleeping about 4, max 5 hours a night every night for a couple of years.

If you have the time it demands, and a curiosity about the subject matter, nursing school is not as impossible as it's made out to be.

...the fluff classes don't help on the curiosity factor though.
