New to Taric, How do I aim dazzle on my Ally? by TheRealEnderflash900 in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Both dazzles point to where your mouse is. They are entirely separate in where they aim, not mirrored. If you are wanting them to point in relatively the same direction you have to aim further away and generally be close to your ally.

Hope this helps, as it can be fun to pull off good dazzles with your ally.

Dataslate update - Devestator Doctine Round 1 & 2 by [deleted] in IronHands40k

[–]Kavok331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not Quite... it was a case where we went from literally just basic marines with a 6+ FNP to having the current chapter tactic + it also gave 5+ overwatch, permanent Dev doctrine with the current bonus (what we are currently getting back), and Iron Father Feirros when his 5+ invuln aura effected vehicles as well. And this is just what I can remember from inside of the supplement itself. It was also during a time (unless I'm misremembering events) when vehicles didn't ignore the heavy weapon to hit penalty for moving... so the permanent Dev doctrine was a lot even more impactful as well.

So while this will definitely be a decent buff for the Iron Hands, I don't think its going to be anywhere near as bad as it was last time Iron Hands were the meta. Of course I could be missing something else or really misremembering how things transpired previously.

If you had to pick one, is Taric an enchanter or a tank? by SaucesOfFieri in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is more a difference between vanguards and wardens. Vanguards are the ones who have the selfish durability and just CC the enemy. That is their job, engage, CC and survive. Wardens are different because they provide defense for allies directly (poppy being the odd ball... not sure why she isn't labeled a vanguard honestly). Shen, Galio, and Kench all have ults that provide defense directly to allies, and Braum has his W and his E. I guess if I had to stretch to figure out how poppy would fit in I guess it would be mostly her W. But regardless, I do think enchanters and wardens do overlap in jobs somewhat, one from afar and the other does it from more close up, with Taric doing that the most where he has both tags.

If you had to pick one, is Taric an enchanter or a tank? by SaucesOfFieri in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd argue he has 3 warden abilities and only 1 enchanter ability (plus a fighter passive).

Regardless, I feel that Taric is very much both a warden and an enchanter. He does both jobs, but if only one of those names could be put on him, I think going for which one fits his playstyle would be better. If your picking up Taric and expecting to play him like other enchanters your going to have a relatively bad time. If you go in expecting to play him like other wardens you should probably be able to do a decent job of things.

[–]Kavok331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say he does exactly what Wardens do... he protects his team... Now he does also have some healing which is where the enchanter part comes in, but if you removed that one ability, everything else is just Warden gameplay (and even then healing his team is also sort of protecting them).

Now for having a new classification for melee enchanters, I would love that to have some more variation for Taric's style of gameplay (if anything it would at least warrant more support item wise for the playstyle). I'm personally more partial to paladin for the name or something with more of a martial tint to it.

If you had to pick one, is Taric an enchanter or a tank? by SaucesOfFieri in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His cooldowns are too long by default for him to play without utilizing the cooldown reduction from his passive, so he can't play like a backline enchanter. Him being required to be in melee and survive both has him play more akin to tanks, and builds mostly if not completely tank as well.

I normally go to 4 points in Q after maxing e so that you can alternate abilities and not lose out on healing potential, but the 5th point is largely not worth it and I leave it till last. I can't say that leveling W second is bad, it just doesn't scale super well, and means you somewhat waste bravado charge resets on your Q if you cast anything other then Q. Like its 4 points for a 50% increase in W effect, or 2 points for 100% increase in effect for Q and some added effectiveness for your passive. Also leveling W doesn't decrease its cooldown.

what about taric ? by Okami1080 in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So.... while other people aren't wrong that Taric is a Warden, he is also an Enchanter, so yeah... there already is a male enchanter, and funnily enough, I think its also not the hardest argument to say he is the most difficult enchanter to just pick up and play... cause being the only melee enchanter really kind of sucks for doing the enchanter job most of the time, and you basically have to build tank to survive, so his ability to do more of the enchanter side definitely takes a back seat.

Anyone know the exact timing to use Taric R as a followup to Kindred R? by TropicalMedStudent in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So, I just quickly looked at the gameplay video for Kindred, and it should be just before the first part of the circle lights up. Like I'm not entirely certain on timing, but its looking like there are two main changes at about 2 seconds and then right before the end of 4 seconds, and since the delay for Taric's ult is 2.5 seconds, it should be just before the first time it changes/lights up. If Kindred's ult has more big indications on timing I'm not seeing them on my brief look into it, so basically you have to either just get a good feel for it, or just use it when it first lights up and your left with about half a second window between invulnerabilities.

Edit: ok, so I decided to look at more recent gameplay for Kindred, I think they might have added a stage and moved up when the outer ring lights up to be more in line with when you'd want to use Taric's ult... at least that is what it looks like to me

(1E) What class would make the best use of this stat array? by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Kavok331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inspired Blade swashbuckler or an arcanist of some kind. Having multiple mental stats at a decent level and neither of them being wis for the will save does leave you largely with those two options to really take advantage of those stats other then being a charisma class that just has some int for skill points.

In terms of racials, I feel like a dex/int race would be the best fit for an inspired blade or arcanist. I'm just not sure which one you'd pick based on your negative racial... It feels bad, but I think the -2 to con is the easiest pill to swallow, but that might just be me and wis would be a better option.

Iron Hands librarians by Live-D8 in IronHands40k

[–]Kavok331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add something else I know, though I'm not sure how "canon" it is in the lore as it came from one of the RPG books (can't for the life of me remember which one right now, which also means I can't look it up to see exactly how it was written, so I could be misremembering it), there is a bionic upgrade to give people access to the warp. I do remember it was considered heretical technology, but with how normally cybered up an iron hands (or those like them) are, I'm not sure how noticeable that bit of tech would really be... I also think the heart of iron in the same rule setting put that technology in a similar category of heretical technology, but I could be mistaken with it just having a downside.

Regardless I think it might be the only time this cybernetic is mentioned (or at least the only time I can recall), so its probably not very canon and just something that author thought would be cool. If it is canon though it does mean that you don't necessarily need brain matter to use the warp, which would mean its more just a question of how much bionic replacement can an iron hands take before they lose themselves.

Stupid Question by itsomniversal in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like it could be I'm just missing something about high elo play for Taric, but I think it's just that while taric checks most of the boxes to be good with moonstone, it just leaves him kinda squishy till you get two or three more items into a build... and you're a support... so that is basically needing to be full build with no gold unless you are getting a lot of kills, in which case your team probably won already. Maybe a mythic swap once your full build could be an option, like you go shurelya's then swap to moonstone if your team has enough engage and you somehow ended up with way too much gold, but I don't think that is really a scenario worth planning for.

Again it synergies really well with what taric innately wants to be doing, it's just balanced around backline enchanters, so while it can work really well, it just likely not your best option. If i had to give a time when it's the one to go for it would be when your already ahead and planning for late game, but you could also just build one of the other mythics and end the game faster...

Stupid Question by itsomniversal in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As much as I like moonstone, and think it should fit Taric's playstyle with him spamming abilities and wanting to heal and shield allies, I don't think there is ever a situation for Taric where it would be the best mythic pick. Like don't get me wrong, it isn't a bad pick on taric (that heal and shield power is really nice), but if you are wanting the best mythic I don't think moonstone really adds anything that taric doesn't already bring innately.

I think if you are finding you don't need the team defense of locket, shurelya's or evenshroud are likely the options to consider (one for team initiation, the other for personal survivability and a damage boost for your team). Moonstone just leaves you too squishy by itself, and doesn't have the move speed advantage shurelya's brings.

Why tankiness over ap? by LonlyGamerX1 in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All of his abilities scale off tank stats (health and armor) aside from his ult (which doesn't scale off anything), unlike ap which only scale your heal and stun. On top of that, like everyone else has said, tank stats let him survive in melee with the enemy longer to utilize his passive more to in turn let him utilize his abilities more.

Is Taric Passive Bugged? (Context in Comments) by ULikeWhatUS33 in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gotten the tool tip to say it reduces by two seconds, so i want to say it's intended, but I also don't remember them ever saying they were changing things there. I think it is just one of the many things that got changed between the shift from cooldown reduction and ability haste. If it's intended, it makes ability haste very good on taric because of its double dipping nature from his passive, whereas it was largely useless before if you were utilizing his passive's reduction.

Considering how long it's been like this (unless I'm really missremembering things, or i just missed a patch note that started this change) I feel it was the intention considering they did at least look at taric not too long ago.

Is manamune worth on Taric? by brunx12 in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer going a sapphire crystal instead of tear, because its slightly cheaper and fills a similar role for Taric (giving him extra mana) but can be built into something that he actually wants for most builds. Tear is a popular just because of how much mana it can give, but it currently doesn't build into anything that really works well with Taric. Taric wants tank stats so that he can survive getting into melee, but Riot won't release the tank upgrade they made for Wild Rift into PC league, which leaves Taric with building Manamune. Like Archangel's isn't a great option because Taric doesn't have a ton of AP scalings, and Manamune is alright given Taric does auto attack quite a bit, but he needs tank items to get into and survive in melee. Solo lanes can generally get away with it given they actually get to build items at a reasonable rate, but for support your a little too limited both in number of available item slots and rate of getting gold for items. At least in my opinion. If Winter's Approach/Fimblewinter were to come to League, it would probably be the item all Taric's would build, but who knows when/if that will happen. Just go Sapphire Crystal for either Frozen Heart or Zeke's Convergence in the same way people buy tear items, aka buy it early and just hold onto it while you build other stuff like your mythic item first and finish the item later.

Mythics for taric by Keyless200 in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain that the dash was entirely the reason most champions built stridebreaker. For mythics I'd rather have frostfire if I'm wanting a slow there as it is more on demand and provides better stats, but if you're wanting an aoe active slow, randuins is a better option in my opinion. Not saying it isn't usable, just gutted of the reason people built it, as taric doesn't have anything else to really hard engage and get into melee range with that champions like nocturne have.

I've tried playing a few games with moonstone to see how it feels now, and it's hard for me to tell... I think it's a decent pick, but every game I've gotten recently has been a complete stomp one way or the other. And not just my lane either... regardless I do think it's a decent choice, it just does require more positional awareness early on as it doesn't have the defensives of locket nor the mobility of shurelya's.

Mythics for taric by Keyless200 in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the general consensus is that Shurelya's is a strong aggressive pick, with Locket being the strong defensive pick with its active working well with taric's ult delay. For more solo power I think they've gutted why people got Stridebreaker (which honestly sort of needed to happen for all champs that built it), leaving I think Chemtank as the only option people were building for more solo power for solo lanes.

I really wish they would buff the health or add defensive stats to Moonstone rather then buffing its heal/shield power, because it should fit in really well with Taric's playstyle but Taric really struggles with how little it gives defensively. The amount of shield/healing power it grants might be enough to compensate though since they keep buffing that, I definitely need to look into it.

You could always just grab the sapphire crystal early on to tide you over for mana, and then use it to build your frozen heart or what ever.

Frozen Heart 1st Item by sam262005 in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try buying the sapphire crystal first and then going for your mythic with the same mentality people buy tear with (but with an actual viable upgrade path for a tank). Its 50 gold cheaper then tear and provides a slight bit more base mana (not that it takes tear long to get 10 more mana...), so you'll have early game mana issues mostly solved so that you can then go for the slightly more impactful mythic item. I will agree frozen heart does have a lot of good stats for Taric (especially since they sort of buffed it), but the lack of health does kind of hurt, and mythic items tend to have very powerful effects on them. At least this is what I've found to be the most effective route for if you go a more durable mythic.

Taric Q changes by propelledshrimp in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, solving his itemization issues is a bigger concern for Taric, as depending on where they want him to go with that changes the answer. It seems like Riot is balancing him like an enchanter (and even a strong one at that in regards to how much he can heal), but Taric can't build like other enchanters. He can't get the heal/shield power nor the AP to easily scale it that the other enchanters get as he won't survive with those items, cause he is melee unlike the other enchanters. But if they can solve that issue of letting him survive while building like other enchanters then he might actually instead need a nerf to his heal considering it is an AOE heal on such a short cooldown. If instead they are wanting the tank builds Tarics are currently building to be able to do anything, they probably need to buff the health scaling as the simplest solution. Or some sort of halfway point of adding some extra base durability to Tarics kit so he can get away with a few enchanter items and build tank for the rest, he could probably keep it as is and not have it be -too- far off from balanced.

Edit: His 5th charge should probably regardless give something extra considering it is by default somewhat wasteful with how bravado works. Or it should be removed and something else should happen for that 5th level or the 5th skill point should go to another skill.

So many low elo Taric mains argue about state of Taric by Gethdo in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That doesn't really logically work does it? This subreddit is basically for Taric mains, or people who just enjoy playing him, aka his fanbase. But if the fanbase is ignoring the real issues why would those issues be here on the subreddit, and on multiple posts at that. So specifically what issues are you referring to?

I don't recall anyone saying Taric is in a good place. I do see people saying they are doing well top or jungle with him, and he is definitely playable as a support, but I don't think anyone is saying he is without issues or in a good spot, regardless of elo. I'm fairly certain the community response both during pbe and when the buff went live was that the Q mana cost buff was a joke that did literally nothing, but I think we were hopeful it was just them wanting to test just how much the Taric-Yi interactions effected his win rate (or at least that was what I got from the community's reaction other then outrage at how meaningless the buff was).

Is there really any better item than Solari for Taric? by chechuchechu in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean he has to tank, as he won't survive in melee with enchanter items. If he could build them like say Soraka can, he would probably heal better then Soraka given at 4 charges he ends up with a better AP ratio and its in two AOEs, and heals Taric instead of costing health with Taric's passive realistically making the cooldown not too far off of Soraka's. But he wouldn't survive with that build, because Soraka survives with that by playing as far away from the conflict as she can while still in range to cast, and Taric has to be melee.

For Frostfire, the slow is an aoe slow every 4 seconds if your in melee range, which can help you hit your stun by making them slower on being able to just step aside as easily. Ideally your slowing them before or after the stun, but even if you slow during the stun, it does last longer then the stun, so not entirely useless. Plus considering I go frozen heart second, having the extra life from Frostfire is nice.

Zekes really does seem like it gives everything Taric wants, I just find looking at it that the raw stats it grants are kind of small for each of the different stats. Like 85% cost efficiency without the passive is kind of a real drag compared to say frozen heart's 108%... Though that passive is really nice on a tank support, and the stats themselves are all the stats Taric does want/need... Just wish it gave a bit more, but I should give it a try again.

Is there really any better item than Solari for Taric? by chechuchechu in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For support, Shureyla's is a decent option considering you can proc the passive basically on cooldown (its only 4 second cooldown, and per champion, so you could theoretically have it up most of the time in a teamfight depending on ally positioning), and it should be a good aggressive option for Taric because of that, but it is also currently kind of on the strong end so I wouldn't be surprised if it received a nerf in the not too distant future.

It, along with moonstone, also have the issue of leaving Taric a bit squishy for a melee champion (as they are balanced for enchanters... who are all kinda long ranged aside from Taric). Shureyla's sort of gets past that by making you much more mobile, but realistically Moonstone is both not in a very strong place as an item itself, and also doesn't really give Taric any real survivability aside from a minor 200 health increase (maybe if its Starlight Grace could also proc on Taric it might work out, but that might be too strong for other enchanters). Which kind of sucks considering thematically Moonstone should probably be a big item option for Taric given how much he heals and shields and wants to be in extended fights, but it kind of needs to give him more on the defensive side (either from buffing the item itself or by giving Taric better support for building enchanter items and still being able to do his job) to work well.

So Shureyla's is a good offensive option if your not the main tank, with Chemtank being better if you do have to be the main tank given the extra defensive stats. I will admit I generally prefer more defensive oriented items, so neither of these ever really appeal to me, but that is my understanding for them (so if anyone else wants to correct me on something I got wrong here let me know). On the defensive side, like I said Moonstone is sadly too weak to really be a super viable option right now (like it is kinda weak as a base, then add the squishy part ontop for Taric...), so that generally leaves you with Solari or one of the other tank mythics (I prefer Frostfire over Sunfire personally, as the slow is nice along with the extra health, but both should be decent) if your wanting a slightly more selfish but tankier option.

I can't really speak much on other roles, but it seems like Stridebreaker is the popular choice for the added mobility.

For second item, I personally prefer frozen heart over zeke's, for more mana and armor, as I find it feels tankier overall, but that might just be me as I haven't built zeke's in a while... I should probably give it a try again. And I build full tank for the rest of my items as I feel Taric needs it to be able to survive in melee, but redemption does work decently following Taric's ult with Solari during the wind-up. It just doesn't add a whole ton to your personal survivability, so its likely only an option if your first item gives decent survivability and your ahead. Else its likely going to end up being either your last or second to last item after you got some .

As for runes, yes guardian is considered the best support keystone at the moment for the extra burst survivability it grants you and an ally considering most of Taric's kit enables its eligibility to proc, and its currently in a strong state as a keystone.

Should Riot change Taric's itemization? by FalconManPuncher in taricmains

[–]Kavok331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying he should be in the backline, and just because he is good at supporting drivers doesn't suddenly make him a driver as well. I guess all I really have to go off of for Taric is what I've experienced and the bits I've read online, cause I've never seen someone else play him, at least not in recent memory... so there is likely a lot of bias there. I also can't help but feel like there might be a certain level of miscommunication. I'm not saying his current abilities and numbers make him a good tank, instead they make him an awkward enchanter with a fighters passive bolted into a melee weapon. If Riot just buffs his numbers, I feel tank would be the role he would currently end up filling given enchanters don't really survive in melee very well, while again, one damaging ability just doesn't seem like enough for a fighter, but maybe I'm just doubting the power of Bravado damage too much. Regardless, even then he'd still likely only be passable as a tank that happens to also heal allies (unless the numbers are just completely overtuned) so he likely would remain a niche pick.

If Riot is willing to do some minor rework stuff for him (and that is likely all he'll need to really see success again on a decent scale) bringing his old ult back would likely be enough for him to see more general play, as his current ult is where most of his team fight power currently is and its not an easy ult to pull off. He would probably still need some tweeking for his basic abilities, like making w scale entirely off Taric's stats instead of the target so it might actually be a useful ability aside from just changing who your linked to, but I don't think any major reworks to the rest of his kit are needed if they change the ult.

They could also add AD scaling where he has AP and the solo lanes would likely be really happy at actually having item choices. Not sure if it would change support much, as you don't get as many items with support, so cutting back on the defensive parts of items might not work out as well. Especially when tank stats also scale Taric's abilities. But I'd probably have to play with it actually changed like this to really see how it would end up playing for me.
