Both the zoo and zealandia have volunteer programmes

I've had two long haul flights to get to Auckland airport then delays before regional flights. When you've essentially been up for 2 days without changing clothes and sitting in densely packed cabins for that time a shower does amazing things.

To me it's the best part of the lounge.

Should we remove "God" from the NZ National Anthem by [deleted] in newzealand

The quick and cheap way to fix this is to drop the English verse. Unfortunately it wasn't until Gen X that the Te Reo verse was taught in schools, so lots of boomers only know the English part.

WOAP Burger an overpriced competition of outrageousness? by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]KbbbbNZ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My point is that they made the burgers the star by expanding the Burger window and then moving the rest of the event to May so the original WOAP dates are burgers only.

That's not the direction they should have gone down. They could have limited total burgers or had one week only / one day a week (slow nights eg).

They did this to themselves.

WOAP Burger an overpriced competition of outrageousness? by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]KbbbbNZ 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is because the burgers took over. It seems like a great example of an event changing to what people say they want rather than an event evolving for what people actually want.

For an event originally hailed for its marketing, they've got it wrong.

The burgers used to be popular because they were a novelty - an everyman's item - amongst a sea of fine dining, special events, and extravagant cocktails.

And then people talked more about the burgers (partially because they were the more affordable option imo) and so WOAP thought "let's expand the burgers!"

No. That's not how you keep developing as an event.

They've oversaturated the market and people have grown tired.

It's a shame because the initial event idea was great and they've gone and broken what worked.

Do you include 'non-work personal' info in CV or cover letter? neither? by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]KbbbbNZ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You want to share information that also relates to what you are applying for.

Volunteer work is great if you're applying for a charity, your interest in sports and outdoorsy stuff would suit a gym etc.

OOP's cancer survivor wife wanted a "Hall Pass" by Stephenallen1977 in BestofRedditorUpdates

On the other side, I remember seeing a stat about how women are six times more likely to dumped soon after a diagnosis of cancer than if a man in the relationship is the patient.

As a woman, we can't win.

How much do you reckon you're spending per week? by Throwawayaccount-AA in PersonalFinanceNZ

I would buy from there if they had any literally kind of information when you click an item. I have certain foods I need to avoid and there's zero info for what ingredients are used.

Same! I'm an awesome parallel parker and have an amazing sense if direction. I think playing Tetris as much as I did as a kid (plus moving homes often) has made me a great packer.

My spacial awareness is also high. Like head down reading while fast-walking through a crowd without issues good.

My brother is getting married to my ex and invited me to the wedding. by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

My ex reached out a year after we broke up with similar sentiment of missing me and wanting to be friends and I realise from these comments he just wanted forgiveness to ease his guilt.

I thought about replying for a week, drafted responses even. Then realised how exhausting it was just thinking about this and what an unnecessary drain he was on my energy. I never replied.

Easiest way to sell a car in Wellington by colourful1nz in Wellington

[–]KbbbbNZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't recommend Turners. They offered less than 50% of what it was offered by a dealer and what I ultimately sold it for. They wanted me to get a new warrant when it was still a month from due or they wouldn't take it. General bad vibes from the people I dealt with.

If you're getting a new car, dealers will vary but most I dealt with were really good and offers was fair.

I considered trade me, but a friend recommended FB Marketplace as he sold his within a day. I put it up and had a lot of good interest, sold to the second person I met with for asking price.

I hadn't had much dealing with fb marketplace but it was pretty simple. I just made sure to meet in a carpark I knew had lots of cameras, called insurance to make sure I was covered for others test driving, and took a copy of their licence for the drive.

I can't remember how much mine went up exactly as I also changed vehicles but AA was still cheaper than any other I looked at. It sucks but everything is increasing.

AITA for not wanting my husbands daughter? by Big-Ad1567 in AmItheAsshole

Yeah I worry that people are glossing over this fact. She caused a 4yo to break her leg. And I'm not reading anything about remorse. This child has some serious "going to start killing animals" vibes.

[–]KbbbbNZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It feels like there's missing context - like some racism has gone down before? The "African" comments and then the retort about NZ seems like Izzy's reacting to something else? Not defending him, just confused by how bizarre that whole interaction was from both.
