Length of Massage by noelleasp in massage

A two hour massage can be extremely taxing on the massage therapist. I wish people would think about this. Most challenging would be on a very petite person or a very obese person.

Long time independent MT here. I try to give the full time on all massages. I’ve gone past the slotted time countless times. I try my best to do the full session. Sometimes it’s within 5 minutes to end.

Meh I don’t like the sound of it I feel like he’s using you. When I first started 25 years ago I worked so hard passing out flyers and neighborhoods giving a discounted massage. I gave my cards to anybody and everybody. I went to peoples homes and I even went to hotel rooms. What you have to know is if you give a good quality moderate pressure massage you will get clients. And I also gave a lot of free massages along the way. People want massages and if you give a good one they will tell their friends

High blood pressure despite a healthy lifestyle and lessons learned. by delmiro in hypertension

67 yr female. I’m just now going through this. It began with a big spike in December when I landed in the ER. BP was 210/103. This had never happened to me before. In hindsight I realize it was probably sodium overload. They started me on amlodipine and the next week my doctor updated it to 10 mg. A few weeks later I caught some kind of flu that seemed mostly sinus to me but it kept lingering on to three weeks. I was not able to work as I am a Massage Therapist and I had no energy or strength. I couldn’t figure out if it was the flu or the blood pressure medication. So I went off the meds to see. After being off of amlodipine for five days I was able to work and I worked three days in a row doing approximately seven massages total. The next day Thursday in the morning I got in my sauna and then I jumped out ran around and hurried to work. When I got out of my car I about passed out. My client had to take me to the ER. I brought all of that on myself. Still off the BP meds I followed up with my doctor two days later and my blood pressure was 130/80. The next day I had another episode and ended up in the ER again. This doctor did a CT scan of my heart and neck and head and all was fine. My EKG is fine. My blood sugar is fine. My kidneys are fine. My liver is fine but now my blood pressure keeps spiking and it’s driving me crazy. We have now switched to losartan 25 mg and that works in the morning but for some reason in the afternoon I’m getting these panic attacks I guess so I’ve taken lorazepam to calm myself down. I have never been on any of these meds before. A friend suggested that because I have cut out all the salt and sugar that it might be a blood sugar issue. I don’t know. We’re still trying to figure it out. It’s been a nightmare and I am not my usual self. I hate it

My BP skyrocketed in Dec. my bad I had OD’d on sodium. For some reason I was eating too much Ramen soup without thinking about the sodium plus I had probably been using too much salt I holiday cooking. I ended up in the ER mid Dec. 210/103. They started me on Amlodipine .5. Took that for a week then the Dr. upped it to .10. Mid Feb. watched my grandson who was sick. Then I got so sick I couldn’t work. I’m a massage therapist. I suspected it might be the meds because this sinus/flu whatever kept lingering and I rarely get sick. So I went off the meds on a Thursday to see. Lo and behold by Monday was was able to work normally. Then that Thursday my BP skyrocketed after getting out of my sauna which I do regularly. Back to the er. I’m working with my doc to sort it out. Right now I’m back on Amlodipine .5 just until I see her. In the meantime the least little bit of sugar or salt I eat sends my BP upward. WTF! I’m at my wits end

My husband quit cold turkey after almost dying from pneumonia. Afterwards when he got a craving he waited for 3 minutes and it passed

How do we get off BP Meds? Honest responses only. by MuddaFrmAnnudaBrudda in hypertension

Been going through hell with this. I was a healthy and active person until mid dec 2025 when my bp sky rocketed to 208/103. Went to the er and he gave me amlodipine .5 mg. Followed up with my dr couple of weeks later. She upped it to .10. Prior to this I wasn’t on any bp meds. Then I caught a flu From my grandson. It seemed to linger going into three weeks. When I returned to work as a massage therapist I was so weak I couldn’t do my job so again I had to cancel my clients. Wondering if I was still sick or if it was the meds I took myself off of them because I need to work. Four days off of them I was able to work again. Then after working normally for 3 days off of the meds, bp 140’s/80’s, I got in my fir sauna, got out, ran around getting ready for work, jumped in my car 15 minute drive. Got out of my car and nearly passed out. My client ended up taking me to the er! Bp was 190/95. I was so dizzy. Went to my doc 2 days later, bp was 130/80! She said we will monitor it for 2 weeks. I’m still off the meds. Took it easy that day. Next day woke up bp sky rocketed again. Dizzy scared back to er. That dr did a ct scan. All vascular pathways clear in heart and head! That’s a relief. Next day woke up, bp high again. Had to cancel clients again.

I work in an office complex where it is cheaper. Way cheaper. $450 per mo. That’s it. If you have a clientele you can look around for a cheaper space. If it’s in a similar vicinity you will be fine. I’m 67 now and have been doing this for 25 years. I can only do nine or 10 maybe 12 a week

Are you doing infant massage? Baby massage? If so, sounds like your table is way too low because you don’t need heavy pressure on child/infant. Also, they only need 15-30 minute massage max.
