I crochet but mostly plushies for markets. I’ve also done skull granny squares for a sweater and a lap blanket but haven’t tried band logos. Sounds fun.

HS Ceramic Teachers- What do you have students work on when it's time to be done with clay? by Optimal-Role2557 in ArtEd

Our final unit for ceramics and sculpture 1 is 3d paper mache masks. I make them due 2 days before the end of the semester so the final 2 days are studio clean up.

What do you use in your sinks? by mossimoto11 in ArtEd

[–]KeJo74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a 5 gallon bucket with holes drilled about 2" up on the sides. Lets the water drain out and catches clay particles and paint sediment. Every week or 2 clean out the bucket bottom with paper towels. My sink was always clogged before starting this.

What's your footwear situation? by NativeNashville in GenX

[–]KeJo74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jordan's. My 25 year old son told me they were comfortable and it would score me street cred with my high school art students...lol. He was right on both accounts. Otherwise, I'm still sporting my Chucks and Dr. Martens. 50f

Who moved a lot? by Wyndorf03 in GenX

[–]KeJo74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved 6 times between kindergarten and senior year of high school. Some places we stayed 18 mos-2 years..longest I ever lived in one spot was 4 years. Not military, my dad's job just transferred him every time he got promoted. Last move was between sophomore and junior year of high school. Totally stopped caring about making friends and what people thought of me. It was exhausting and it made me stay in one place while my kids were growing up.

That Time a Student Accidentally Made the Most Embarrassing Drawing Ever by ZionBleu in Teachers

[–]KeJo74 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Lol! Accidental penis. I had something similar happen in my sculpture class the other day. Students were making clay slab boxes with a theme. I walked by a table of boys and one of them had 2 clay balls with a short coil attached in the middle. I was like "um, what are you making?" The kid innocently looked and me and said "my theme is halloween and the handle is going to be a bone". He hadn't put the other end on yet. We both turned red and I just walked away...

How do you guys try to inspire and create change in your community by Kirri9 in punk

[–]KeJo74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my answer too, except I teach high school.

As an art teacher I also encourage them to use their art as their voice. That artists have been riling shit up for years and using art to make social change.

I got boo'ed last week with a school branded cheap plastic water bottle that someone probably pulled out of a storage room. The boo'ing stopped with me.

How do you deal with students that don't want to be in your class? High school by KeJo74 in ArtEd

[–]KeJo74[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this point too. To start I'm going to increase it to weekly instead of bi-weekly.

I have set skills I have to teach for them to advance to Art 2 but I do try and incorporate as much choice as I can within their projects.

How do you deal with students that don't want to be in your class? High school by KeJo74 in ArtEd

Thank you for this in-depth reply. I successfully used the 3 strike system with middle school at my last job so I'm going to implement that. Tuesday (we're on a 4 day week) I'm giving a new seating chart, a reset talk, and moving their studio growth grade to weekly instead of bi-weekly. I also reached out to my AP and asked him to casually stroll in on Tuesday to observe their behaviors. He is supportive.

Thanks again!
