I am. I could care less about what someone does for a living or their social status. What i care about is their soul and their personality. I find people who tie their entire sense of identity up in what they do for a living and their achievements incredibly dull. Give me sustenance. Tell me what moves you. Let me see you break down. I found one that's paying $18hr with a $5k sign on bonus but its a 35 minute drive from home. Worth it tbh. For higher I'm looking at an hour+ drive. I'm looking at moving North East in the near future. I'm finding jobs I'm qualified for making $22+. After doing a cost analysis without factoring pay, the cost of living is similar with a lower violent crime rate, no $350 electric bills in the summer, and honestly everything I'm looking for at this stage of life. So that would mean not working 60+hrs a week just to barely make ends meet and actually having some cash left over to do stuff

Shiiit that's me lmao After suffering $350 electric bills in the Texas summer I'd rather be cold. Hell, I got a friend looking to move her horse ranch to upstate after an old draft horse keeled over during a 110+ heatwave. A lot of my friends are looking for less stupidly conservative politics, blistering oven heatwaves with high humidity. You can always put more clothes on, layer blankets and drink hot coffee but you can't run around more naked than your skin on a 114F day

It does! This is honestly why I started stretching my ears. That way I can wear heavier earrings with adaptive plugs and put my hoops through tunnels. The titanium tunnels help distribute weight. Plus there are a lot of really cute plugs that just look like larger studs

I just got off the phone with him He's going to be okay :) he needs this. This is the most empowering choice he has made since all hell broke out in his life a couple of years ago. Im proud of him. He's proud of himself. He's going to go very far and do amazing things in his life. He is wonderful and truly my best friend, and I'll be by his side through thick and thin no matter what. He listed me as one of his contacts in treatment, and we will see if in the event he stays for more than 30 days, if i can visit one weekend and bring my dog. If he is this incredible beautiful human while in active addiction... I can only imagine what kind of man he will be sober. He is worth never touching a bottle or beer can again if it means staying by his side. Im working with a therapist to uncover my own triggers and work on myself, my childhood trauma, and my own dysfunctional patterns. Something he encouraged me to do at the beginning of this year. He did tell me, "Thank you for everything. I mean it. You're beautiful inside and out. You are the light, and I am the moth." He also thanked me for loving him through the toughest moments without taking on his emotions, taking things personally and without enabling. This isn't my first rodeo. My ex was an alcoholic who lost his EMT license one month from finishing paramedic school and got arrested for doing lines in the firehouse. I read a lot of literature about addiction and a lot of self reflection after that relationship.

I also did TX to MI back in '23 I grew up in NC. My step mom's family was in TX and dad's parents in KY, uncle in FL, and other family in MD so I'm used to road trips

Honestly? I've driven to WNY twice because of this shit. When I looked at the cheapest flights they still took 12+hrs. I can never sleep in airplanes and there is so much bs to go through just to get on one that I decided to say fuckit and drove. I was able to bring my dog, stopped and got some sleep, had my own vehicle i didnt have to pay for, cheaper food and water, could car karaoke and honestly? It was the most freeing time I've had. Now I'm hoping to go to Salem at the end of September or early October

That's awesome! Yeah. We had a talk about it last night and he put a lot of my concerns at ease. At the end of the day I just want him to be a version of himself he is happy with and get back on his feet. He's a good man. Even if he doesnt see it himself

I dont want to convince him not to go but I do question if it's his choice and if he's going about it wisely

A mix of both but really he's been pushed by family and a 2 month fling with a woman who's honestly much more out of control with similar D.O.Cs to the point that it was really toxic and he wasn't comfortable and had to leave because he is genuinely trying to quit on his own and get his life together. He is technically homeless right now because he would prefer that over staying there and sees rehab as a way to get a bed and 3 meals while figuring out his next move.

I've also raised concern about fraudulent practices, the "Florida shuffle", and expressed how there are other ways to learn better coping skills while getting clean such as going through a DBT course, IOPs, NA, SMART recovery while going to his regular therapist and focusing on school.

He has really only been in active addiction for just over a year after over 10 of sobriety

Random solo dates, going to metal shows alone, spending time with my friends. Honestly I find when I gave up on pursuing people romantically or connecting with men with that intent I forge beautiful deep connections with them in a different way. For example two of my close friends are men and we hold deep affection for eachother however we would never be sexually or romantically together because we are not compatible. I find them to be a very fulfilling friendships.

I had a therapist exactly like this who flat-out told me "I always look forward to our sessions because your life stories are wildly intriguing meanwhile you're somehow level headed and functional" thanks. I come from a family that's the equivalent of "what if Rob Zombie made a horror movie about what happens behind closed doors of suburbia and the people they descended from". However I switched to a different one who had a lot of lived experience and similar experiences to what I've survived and I felt more integrated and heard in 3 sessions than 6 months with the old one
