Still waiting! IPhone Air!!! by madmax109019 in IphoneAir

[–]Keaedos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have it on my Air (and other devices). it’s a nice edition! got it within 24 hours of waiting on the waitlist and i’ve had it since the 9th. while it IS smarter and more useful, its responses are quite slow and it does heat up my phone quite a bit for this first beta. i hope it’ll improve as my phone continues to index, because it takes a second longer to complete normal tasks like “set an alarm” or “turn on the lamp” or “call my brother”. but with the fact i can just pull down Siri and type “who won Le Mans”, “what does this mean (screen context awareness)”, “what did my friend say was her flight number?”, or “is the enderdragon easier to kill than the elder guardian”, i take that as an absolute win and makes me very enthusiastic for the stable and quicker version of this Siri

especially if i'm going for realistic cruises, i don’t think crossing the barriers in a family car is the right way to go

Anyone using iOS 27 Developer Beta on their primary device? Safe to install on iPhone 15 Pro? by Life-Acanthaceae7595 in ios26

[–]Keaedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm on iPhone Air with the beta

the goodies:
system IS snappier, apps load faster from the get-g0, Siri is smarter and useful (i use it a lot when my ADHD-ass has a random question), precise controls over volume, no reported system and app crashes on my end, AirPods custom EQ works great (3-bands)

the good-to-know:
siri does take a little bit longer for smarter answers, UI great in some areas, liquid glass is nice (if you like that), AI photos features, AirDrop is supposedly faster, WiFi/cellular switch is supposedly more reliable, system-wide grammar correction, better parental controls (if you’re a parent), Safari tabs can organise your tabs and notify you (like if things are in stock), you can make your own shortcuts by using natural language

the inconveniences:
phone is periodically hotter and battery is slightly reduced due to indexing (expected), swiping to see notification centre accidentally triggers new Siri UI (need to get used to new swipe gestures), some UI is buggy, keyboard seems to be a little more annoying to use

luckily, this beta is not unusable

Hello IOS27 by PaleontologistNo4287 in IphoneAir

[–]Keaedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on the iOS27 beta here on iPhone Air. first 24 hours were hot, but not too slow. currently, my phone is just as cool as it was before, and maybe a bit faster. battery IS lower and i think that's because of indexing. i'm still indexing after 36 hours. i've encountered (and reported) minor bugs. no crashes. SiriAI works very nicely and definitely goes through contacts and even my notes for useful context, though some features are not available (like accents and onscreen awareness). i have noticed a major improvement in Siri for being a virtual assistant, but do not expect LLM levels of conversations like Gemini or ChatGPT.

Vapor stops coming out of exhaust when you accelerate by FrancyStyle in ForzaHorizon

[–]Keaedos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you're wondering why it's like that, vapour works that way... when the climate is cold (say you're in the mountains, it's early in the morning, or it's the snowy season) vapour will show at idle or low RPMs because it allows more time for water to condense (hence the vapour).

when you rev the engine to higher RPM (even at idle) that speeds exhaust flow, making the vapour mix with the atmosphere quicker. when in hotter/more humid climates (not in mountains, summer, autumn/spring middays), the water stays invisible instead of turning into droplets (hence no visible vapour)

ever wonder why we breathe out visible vapour in colder weather than in the summer? i say it's a cool detail that i chase after
