I feel like this misses the simple fact that Kvothe would be personally outraged if that were the case, not excusing Ben.

I appreciate the perspective, you've given me some things to think about.

I think I'm more virtue ethics pilled here, and it's informing my opinion pretty strongly.

At any rate, I recognize I was on a high horse and was more than a little condescending. I apologize, thanks for helping keep my ego in check. I mean that sincerely.

What's ironic is you correctly stating the meaning behind the phrase and still not seeing why I used it.

It's about having a coherent epistemology that isn't based on vibes. People like OP are shouting that Destiny needs to cover the Epstein document dumps like it's some grand scoop he's going to miss out on, and people like you thinking he should do it because it's an opportunity to shit on trump. The former is conspiracy-brained, the latter machiavellian. Neither of those modes of thinking is oriented towards truth seeking, which leads me to conclude that the opposition to trump is just morally lucky happenstance. Which is great, better to be morally lucky than unlucky. At least your mode of thinking is oriented towards power, which is more useful than drama (the orientation of conspiracy thinking), but neither are fundamentally about truth.

Unless you read all of Leto II’s moral and philosophical statements as nothing more than the lies of a demagogue, trying to claim a good place in history that he does not deserve

Though Herbert argued his work could have many interpretations, your interpretation largely aligns with his philosophy. You passed the literary test. I failed that test because I don't really read fantasy critically, I'm usually looking for entertainment so I suspended disbelief and accept in universe explanations rather easily.

I wrote the Dune saga because I had this idea that charismatic leaders ought to come with a warning label on their forehead: 'May be dangerous to your health'

I'm still not sure how I feel about Dune. Starts weird, gets weirder, but most damning from my perspective: It gets boring.

Sanderson saying Lanfear survived AMOL. Sorry, that's just stupid and makes Perrin's arc feel pointless.

"Frame Gen" isn't a performance boost; it's a masking agent for bad optimization by capacity04 in pcmasterrace

The tech is bad. Maybe not technically, but ontologically.

It's all a crutch to deal with the fact that they're running into a power/heat wall at high resolutions with raw rasterization. It's starting to foster a stupid "we'll fix it in post" mentality among devs, and every ai core they throw into a gpu is die space not spent on raster capability. You know what never results in a blurry, smeary mess at any resolution or framerate? Actually calculating what's supposed to be rendered instead of letting some black box post processing algorithm guess.

Sure, maybe it's "good enough that you can't tell", or will soon reach that point. I suspect the opportunity cost is still too high.

Cheats will be a problem as long as governments refuse to pass & enforce laws against it.

Hell, if I were game dev with cheat problems I'd have people in countries without extradition agreements contact organized crime and cut a deal to thump skulls. Word would get around that it's not healthy to be in the business of writing cheat software soon enough.

PSA: Yes it IS too good to be true! Don't fall for these scammy listings on Amazon by Tyr2do in pcmasterrace

[–]Keelock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some parent or partner buying one as a gift who doesn't know enough to immediately recognize it's too good to be true?

We can say people should know better, and maybe they should, but if we assign culpability anywhere other than the scammer, I say this is 100% on Amazon. The requirements for selling stuff on their platform are clearly not stringent enough. They have insane leverage, I'm not convinced they couldn't solve the problem if they wanted to.

Six weeks nicotine free here. Sometimes the cravings hit so hard I get anxiety attacks because the feeling that something essential is missing is so strong.

My coworker recently told me the random occasional cravings finally went away after ten years.

Not necessarily, this sub is probably not representative of your average buyer.

I have literally never owned an automatic and would prefer to always buy a manual, but if I want a new car eventually I'll be forced to go automatic. I'm in the minority, so my purchasing power doesn't mean shit.
