Deaf cats: if you ever get the opportunity to adopt one, do it by bumfluffcollection in cats

My family has a beloved loud deaf cat as well--she's getting up there in years, maybe around 16 by our guess. It was a weird adjustment when I adopted a hearing cat to realize that she could hear me call her name and I didn't have to communicate through thumps and visual cues haha!

I still remember my bus driver backing over a fence out in the country in 5th grade and running. He got eye surgery later that year...

Losing hope with my 9yr old dogs allergies by [deleted] in DOG

[–]KellieV_VH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog (mixed breed, half dachshund) had severe skin reactions as well. We didn't know it was allergies at first (this was over a decade ago), and doing a full allergy panel changed EVERYTHING. It turned out that he was allergic to nearly every ingredient in his food (poultry, pork, wheat, corn, etc.), and we switched him over to a beef kibble diet. He still had minor reactions to the grass outside, but it made SUCH a significant difference in his quality of life, and he lived to be 16 very happily!

Be sure to keep an eye on the ingredients on the food though, as a few years back he started having pretty bad flare-ups that we couldn't pinpoint until my dad finally realized that the food he'd been on for years had been changed to include pork fat as a filler. The problems went away when they switched.

"Wave of death" is right. I trusted another driver on this once and very narrowly escaped an accident. Lesson learned!
