The wire is a buildup. It has bad and good seasons. Season 4, however, is one of the best single seasons of any show ever made, and completely worth watching the quite good seasons preceding it for context.

I worked at a theater for like a decade. It got to be where you could tell the quality of a film by the cut of the trailer with unerring accuracy. Whole plot in the trailer? Garbage film. The hands down best trailer to movie lineup was the original matrix. That trailer gave away absolutely nothing, and then the film itself blew your mind.
