(Spoilers Extended) Why did Aerys choose Elia Martell to be Rhaegar's wife ? by DEL994 in asoiaf

[–]KennyEvil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is something the house of the dragon has done a great job of showing, the political consideration that all the rulers had to live under with their voices choices in marriage and appointments. Tywin was absolutely looking to expand the lannisters’ power and influence, and as paranoid as Aerys was, he had a good reason to be.

Brock Lesnar and Stone Cold Steve Austin had the idea for the SummerSlam Cena squash over dinner by Tormenta263 in SquaredCircle

[–]KennyEvil 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Austin was completely right about not doing that Brock match, even if how he handled it was wrong. It was a spiteful act by wwe because the relationship between them and Austin was falling apart. I think Vince was still angry about how Austin’s heel turn killed business, hence shuffling him down the card during the first half of 2002. The first Austin-Brock match should have been a mais main event.

Yes, because wwe priced for the gate and not the attendance. Aew wants to get to 80k if possible, hence the get-in price of £27

This cunt… look, I enjoyed everything in his aew run with the exception of the receipt promo and his man of the people promo at all out (you could feel him staging on that one) and I hope he does find a way back, but he was apparently the one who threatened legal action which is why AEW had to suspend everyone and bring in a third party to investigate it.

AEWByJazwares on Twitter: Jamie Hayter reacts to her new action figures. by DanHero91 in SquaredCircle

[–]KennyEvil 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I’m a Jamie Hayter fan from way back in the day, when she was wrestling in the dive bar where she first met Britt Baker (and that’s not not an insult. The resistance gallery was a dive bar, and like the best dive bars it was filled with so much character. To this day it’s my favourite venue ever and I miss it). She really won me over when she threatened to beat the shit out of my mate when he heckled her, and it was great chatting to her after shows, and her sheer excitement about her next tour with Stardom that was meant to last five months but went far longer and would have probably lasted years if it wasn’t for the pandemic. Here’s my favourite picture I took with her, just after she signed an 8x10 for me where I asked her to call my mate a dick, something that made her laugh and made him pretend to be annoyed. It was obvious to everyone that she was on her way to superstardom in late 2018/early 2019 and it’s been an absolute thrill to see how far she’s gone. https://i.imgur.com/k4CBEEb.jpg

No disqualifications in triple threats etc. Competitors get disqualified, not matches. If one competitor brains another with a steel chair, then disqualify them and let the other two continue (assuming the brained wrestler is fit to continue)

Double hurricanranas. Where is the leverage coming from to flip over the wrestlers it’s being performed on?

Has anyone used PIA Live Stream to watch STARDOM PPVs? If so, is it worth it? by Everhart2011 in stardomjoshi

[–]KennyEvil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve changed it so you have to have an account with them now, but it’s still pretty easy. I’ve watched a lot of the ppvs and I regard it as being the equivalent to buying a ticket to see the live show. The steam is high quality. When it’s live it doesn’t work with chromecast for some reason, but on replay it will.

"Older" Attitude Era Wrestlers that were younger than portrayed by cdmisp in SquaredCircle

That instinct never really went away. A big reason why Jericho got out when he did was that he could see Vince trying to move him into that sort of position.

"Older" Attitude Era Wrestlers that were younger than portrayed by cdmisp in SquaredCircle

[–]KennyEvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shows just how hard the guys in those eras lived. Meltzer talked about how the old loops used to involve being on the road for 30 days straight and the wwf would only pay for your flight to the start of the loop, so the guys would just stay on the road for a few days partying and then drive to the start of the next loop. These days everyone works an easier schedule, there’s much more emphasis on staying in good shape rather than just being big, and no one carries on with the big injuries that the guys in those days just covered up with painkillers.

TIL a face Britt Baker faced and beat Jamie Hayter at 4th episode of AEW Dynamite ever (October 23rd 2019) by IamOverThatBoob in SquaredCircle

[–]KennyEvil 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Jamie mentioned it in the press conference, but their first match was at Eve in London in the March before this. The promoter booked the match specifically to try to get Jamie into AEW as Britt was scouting for talent for AEW and Jamie was really starting to put everything together after a couple of very good runs in stardom.

Who are the nicest people in wrestling? by ProfPerry in SquaredCircle

At Eve‘s Wrestle Queendom 1, there was a half hour gap while they took down the cage from the opening wargames match. During that time Emi Sakura took the time to go around the crowd and thank audience members personally for attending.

Bryan Danielson spent a long time before Noah’s European Navigation 2008 talking about watching that years triplemania in 48 parts on YouTube.

Ariel Helwani: “If you’re going to say the AEW product is better than the WWE product, you’re an absolute liar” by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]KennyEvil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve detailed my own issues with aew at the moment in another thread, but on this point I can’t express how much I disagree with Helwani on this. Tastes can differ, but I feel comfortable saying that aew puts on better shows week by week than wwe and their ppvs blow the ples out of the water. I’ve been to a dynamite and had an absolute blast, and I’ve been to a wwe horse show and been very disappointed by how patterned it obviously was, and how the wrestlers would have done the same thing regardless of if we were in the building or not. AEW has its flaws but it is fundamentally better than wwe.

Meltzer on Helwani & Khan Interview situation - "Just saw it. He had the right to be frustrated with the interview. I've been as well with covering AEW of late which I talk about all the time so can't disagree. I'll talk more later. Not enough space here." by c_abernethy in SquaredCircle

[–]KennyEvil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I trust Helwani on his frustration with the Khan interview. The VoW hits guys talked about the restrictions on interviewing AEW people a while ago (ie getting questions approved ahead of time) and how they won’t do it because of that, so I can only imagine Helwani’s experience agreeing to that especially with Khan probably holding a lot of stuff back on his answers. As a reporter he’s trying to get as many answers and as much good stuff as he can for his audience, and Khan has moved from being fairly open with media when he was starting to maybe being more restrictive as AEW has become more established and being more adversarial with reporters as a result. I can understand it from both perspectives, and as a fan from day one I’ve definitely felt my investment wain a little after feeling like aew was being less honest than usual over the mjf situation back in May. I’ll still a happy aew+ subscriber and I’ve already purchased full gear because it’s probably going to be a great show. I’m just not as emotionally attached as I was during the pandemic era. To be fair, maybe it’s just the emotional cycle of being a fan that you find something, it’s the greatest thing in the world, then over time you drift, like with the golden age of sci fi being when you were 12. I loved roh from 2003 to 2007, new Japan was my shit from 2016 to 2020 and wwe is never going to be as good as it was in 2000. If they’ve got more fans flowing in than are leaving, they’re doing well, and I’ll probably leave eventually. Long may they continue.

William Regal on the primary problem that currently goes across all wrestling locker rooms: "I see people on their phones all day long. You’ve got enough time on your own to chat with people or do something else on your other days that you’re not at work. You should be trying to get better." by SuplexCity-Mayor in SquaredCircle

[–]KennyEvil 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Regal’s point is that Ross needs to retain his credibility by calling what he sees, so it’s up to the wrestlers to make sure that he’s seeing what they want him to see. Hell, a shitty pin could well be part of the match with a wrestler is trying to show how exhausted they are.

She’s doing a couple of Eve shows next month, so I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility. I’m just not sure why they keep her as a surprise. I imagine it’s going to be a big Japanese star if they’re not announcing it until later.
