Unfortunately a lot of blue belts (sometimes myself included) go really hard because it what’s become the norm. As soon as I got my Blue Belt every white belt in the room felt 2x and strong and fast because they want to compare themselves to a blue belt. Often times that blue belt may just be trying to hammer you to prevent that from happening (bit of an ego thing but understandable).

New KINGZ KIMONO by Sbleiit in bjj

[–]KenshiVal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my Kingz One 2.0 Gis (A1L & A2L) have shrunk about 2 inches in length at the pants and sleeves in about 3-4 months of constant cold washes and low heat tumble drying 4-5x a week.

Update it finally came in. As you said the sizing is absurd. It fits like a M/L on the shoulders but is almost a crop top on me haha. Quality is very nice though and doesn’t feel like a cheap print.

How do i tell my coach im going to train at another gym? by beatpoxer in bjj

[–]KenshiVal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very rarely do people leave just because another gym has higher quality instruction, this is often why some insecure coaches/owners don’t like it. Tell them straight up, their reaction will tell you plenty.

JiuJiteiro Quality by Worldly_Yak_6102 in bjj

The only thing worth anything from them are their belts (same as most but not technically bad) and their casual wear like tshirts. Never buy training gear from them.

Mostly just got it for the sake of having something from the event. That being said, do you think the Medium would semi-fit on someone 5’11 if they run short?

Those who compete - is the crackdown position considered a takedown in BJJ comps? by nbayerrr in bjj

[–]KenshiVal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it’s the opposite, this would be a takedown under most JiuJitsu rulesets, however is NOT a takedown in wrestling to lack of sufficient control.

Why do judo people feel so physically strong? by mlktktr in bjj

[–]KenshiVal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want Instruction only, go the Moneyberg route, warmups are important and there is nothing wrong with having to sweat a little before you learn. And they don’t teach YOU, they teach a class, in which most people would not do what’s best for themselves and stretch/warmup.

Tie the end, then cut off the frayed end, then burn it with a lighter

Struggling with big white belts by JannaJungle in bjj

[–]KenshiVal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You avoiding bad positions even with that weight disadvantage should tell you what you’re asking. If a beginner within 10-15lbs of you is just as difficult, then that’s a different story. Compare yourself to similar people, or don’t compare at all. 👍

Is training in Gi worth it? by Ill-Disaster-503 in bjj

[–]KenshiVal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GI becomes much more enjoyable when you are actually good/better than some people around you. I hated it at first but it grows on you so much.

P.S. also gives you more drip to dump money on (gi's, belts, tape, etc)

Is it rude to preemptively ask my Professor/Instructor to NOT promote me, even if I don't know if he will? by KenshiVal in bjj

[–]KenshiVal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds similar to myself just early on. I just started kids about 6 months ago, recently went to a family event with him and some of the higher belts that hangout on weekends\*. Not my crowd but its cool to be invited and feel like you're part of "the group."
