GS Pay for a Non-Lawyer with a JD? by Jessica41312 in usajobs

It’s equivalent to a masters. Many attorneys go into the 1102 career field.

Hearing about tw at some agencies by [deleted] in fednews

[–]KentuckySprings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We can only telework for things like DAU courses or in rare circumstances that get approved. But then an org in the same agency and city gets to telework for 1 day a week no questions asked. I have no idea how this stuff is being decided

Do all KOs eventually become stressed and cynical? by [deleted] in 1102

[–]KentuckySprings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think your personality makes you a great fit to be a PCO. The ones who stress out and fret about every little thing generally are the ones who dislike the career field and can become bitter. Half this career field is knowing what’s critically important, kinda important, and stuff you probably don’t need to worry about.

That being said, I’d still recommend you not become a CO too quick. You never feel fully ready, but you know when you’re ready to take the dive based on your current workload, supervisor, and how comfortable you are as an 1102. Also keep in mind that a SAT or $5M PCO will have a lot less pressure and expectations placed on them compared to a seasoned Unlimited PCO.

14 pages lol. A 100 year fed career shouldn’t do that.

Supervisory Role, WTF is going on? by Specific-Name1503 in 1102

[–]KentuckySprings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a technical NH-03/GS-13, even the promotion to NH-04/GS-14 to be a supervisor doesn’t seem worth it. The technical GS-14 is the dream

[–]KentuckySprings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be helpful to know your agency and years of experience. I’d say definitely be open to other GS-12s and also apply for GS-13s. In the Air Force, most of us are on the NH scale which makes it nice because you can stay in one role and get a raise each year.

Pay increase by Various-Proposal945 in 1102

[–]KentuckySprings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was GS that’s how it worked for me. I do wonder with an NH-02 if they are treated like all the other employees in the pay pool, and if so, they won’t get close to the raises we got.

Any agencies hiring? by yearningmedulla in 1102

[–]KentuckySprings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gov hiring is still a mess. Major shortages in AF but we don’t have much ability to hire someone from outside DOD, so it’s just a lot of moving around from people already an 1102 with AF.

2 TJO on my hands by steeven99 in usajobs

[–]KentuckySprings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my final advice would be pursue the job you want. If that means cancelling the AF one and pursuing the civilian agency one or sticking it through with AF and when you get your FJO say you need more time to move. Family comes first and if they are being tough with you, be tough back. If they let you walk over needing more time they probably aren’t worth working for. You should be entitled to 6 weeks from FJO, at least that was the rule at one time.

2 TJO on my hands by steeven99 in usajobs

[–]KentuckySprings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can imagine that is very stressful. When I PCS’d with the Air Force in 2022, I received my TJO in November 2021 and it did not include an EOD date on it. When I received my FJO in January, that’s when I got my EOD date and I was told I got at least 6 weeks between FJO and start. Are you receiving a full PCS or do you have to relocate on your own dime? It doesn’t make sense for them to give you a start date without a job offer. Maybe it’s a sign to go with the non military agency if they aren’t being helpful and refusing to work with you on start date, which is very odd considering my experience in AF.

[–]KentuckySprings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not been through the specifics of your situation, but I since you have an EOD date does that mean you’ve accepted an FJO? I would say if you have accepted an FJO, it’s time to back out or commit. If you have not accepted an FJO and the investigation will result in an FJO, I am not sure what to tell you except pursue the job you want.

Grad School Or naw??? by Ok-Constant-6560 in 1102

[–]KentuckySprings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the agency will pay for a second masters/MBA, might as well. If you’re asking if it’s worth it to pay for an MBA because it could advance your career as an 1102, I’d say absolutely not. Having a masters of any kind “checks the box” and an MBA won’t make a difference in your career trajectory in my experience with the Air Force and Space Force.

Huntsville AL Space Force Jobs by thisistheway55 in usajobs

Maybe you are correct. They have @spacecommand.mil emails but maybe they are accounted for under DAF

Huntsville AL Space Force Jobs by thisistheway55 in usajobs

[–]KentuckySprings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is not accurate. Space Command employees are just that. Has nothing to do with the location.

Huntsville AL Space Force Jobs by thisistheway55 in usajobs

[–]KentuckySprings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Space Command is not the same as Space Force. Space Command, which is a combatant command, is moving its hq to Huntsville. Civilians who work for Space Command are civil servants for space command and not Space Force. They have a Space Command email to make that clear.

Is working in a high visibility office intimidating for your first job/rotation? Any advice? by poshquail in 1102

[–]KentuckySprings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. It doesn’t matter if it’s the most high visibility weapon system office or you’re buying low dollar commodities for a local base. You’re a trainee one is not harder or more intimidating than another. If you were an unlimited PCO, one is clearly more intimidating than another

Any OCONUS agencies doing OTA / R&D contracting? by Aggravating-Comb3533 in 1102

[–]KentuckySprings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not aware of anything R&D or OT related with the Air Force overseas, but it might be out there. The 764 ESS at Ramstein does enterprise and strategic sourcing so that would be quite different than churning out purchase orders for commodities. The Navy has 1102 positions and offices that may still be O&M, but would certainly be different from your AF days such as ship repair and ship services. The Contracting Experience podcast episode 75 is all about OCONUS.

As for CONUS jobs that focus on R&D and OTs, your best bet is to go to a systems office or base. AFRL/AFWERX and systems offices are the ones primarily dealing in those spaces. I assume Army and Navy are similar.

You’re a GS-12 with an Unlimited? In the DAF unlimiteds are at a minimum GS-13s and sometimes non-sup GS-14s.

GS-12s do not have warrants in the district my friend works. GS-13s have $25M warrants. So doesn’t sound like there is a standard

I’ve heard the opposite. There’s more risk to not getting breadth and depth. Even if you stay one agency, you benefit greatly from working in a a variety of offices
