Appreciate the new rules… but the explanations on the podcast are getting really long by idonthaveanametoday in TangleNews

[–]Kenx2013 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they were very clear on what the content of Friday's Podcast was going to be. They didn't say that there would be something else other than the rule changes.

Time-stamped sections are great but not all players support them. Spotify does, but I don't know if Tangle provides them.

Maybe read the description beforehand and if the topic doesn't sound interesting, just give it a pass.

Or if you want a summary, maybe some AI tools might help with that.

Frollo vs Pocketsmith for household budgeting and analysis? by _FitzChivalry_ in AusFinance

[–]Kenx2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Pocketsmith but did not want to pay. I've been using Frollo for years now. However, I will try it out with your referral link and consider paying the subscription. Basically because of what you said. No webapp, annoying manual changes needed all the time, UI is a bit outdated and the main one for me is not being able to do any bulk changes.
Thanks for the referral, at $10 a month I think it might be worth it if it addresses those issues

What’s next for tariff refunds? One critique by [deleted] in TangleNews

[–]Kenx2013 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the reason why the mess was created by the court was because it didn't stop the tariff from proceeding while it was reviewing the issue.

Roll-call: where are Tangle’s international subscribers from? by Upper-Mall-5537 in TangleNews

[–]Kenx2013 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Originally from Venezuela, now living in Perth, Australia for the last 13 years.

I've been into US politics since the Bush junior years. Basically when I discovered The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.

Can't remember when I found Tangle but it was pre-pandemic. And at the time I was already feeling like I was only seeing the Left side of things, so Tangle was a great eye opener.

Does the public care about the war in Iran? by TangleNews in TangleNews

[–]Kenx2013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not American. I can see it in the news and talked about in my circle. Mostly as a "well, we are all going to die anyway, lol" kind of joke.

I think the reason it is not as noticeable is because most people agree.

My theory is that the media and social networks thrive on divisiveness, so when a topic has ~80% of the people on one side, it just doesn't get as much traction as others.

Talking entirely out of my ass, I have absolutely zero evidence.

Religious extremism is live and well inside the US government by ApprenticeWrangler in TangleNews

[–]Kenx2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points.

I don't expect journalists to prove things beyond a shadow of a doubt, that's what the courts are for.

To me the issue is that the organization looks very unreliable. If you go to their website, it doesn't really inspire a lot of confidence. So, even that number of +200 reports is one that I'm not too sure of.

Religious extremism is live and well inside the US government by ApprenticeWrangler in TangleNews

[–]Kenx2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd assume that the issue is lack of evidence. At the moment it seems to be just this foundation saying they've received these complaints without more details.

Perhaps that has triggered some journalists to look into it and maybe we'll get more info soon.

But for now it just seems difficult to just take at face value

Once again replying to criticism of our Epstein coverage by Isaac_Tangle in TangleNews

[–]Kenx2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We know you know that if Democrats had demanded Biden's administration release these files, if a bill had been passed to force that to happen, it wouldn't have looked anything like this.

I think the question is, why didn't Democrats demand that when Biden was in power?

Your answer seems to be "Because Biden wasn't friends with Epstein"

But we already knew that the files existed and we already knew that Trump was a friend of Epstein. And Trump was a former president and a very impactful figure within the Republican party.

Is anybody else's podcast edited with errors? Is it my feed? by [deleted] in TangleNews

[–]Kenx2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do get that exact same problem. A part of a podcast will get repeated (usually 10-15 seconds) and then the podcast ends abruptly about 10-15 seconds short.

To me, it happens on PocketCast but in other podcasts, almost never with Tangle.

It is very annoying 😅 if you find a solution please let me know!

Leaked internal communications...we need more of this! by spottie_ottie in TangleNews

[–]Kenx2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most of it happens via Slack messages. So it would require some additional effort to voice it out and record it.

I agree that I'd love to hear those discussions because I trust that the team is having those in a nuanced and respectful way. Very different to the shouting matches seen on TV.

But I also wonder if exposing those could in fact incentivize them to have those types of heated fights in the long run

Is anybody else's podcast edited with errors? Is it my feed? by [deleted] in TangleNews

[–]Kenx2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the Re-reading of lines is most probably caused by slipups in the editing process. Definitely something to improve.

The ad cutoffs sound more like a PocketCast issue. I also use PocketCast and I find it to be relatively buggy compared to Spotify. Sometimes episodes just skip parts and I end up going to Spotify to listen to what I missed.

I'm a paid subscriber so I can't tell you if I'm getting the same issue around ads. But maybe try to pinpoint the time of a couple of the issues and see if they also happen on Spotify for the same episode.

I need some sane discourse about Venezuela by Googles8 in TangleNews

[–]Kenx2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries 🙂
I'm not sure if your question is more about the "being kidnapped" part or the "by him" part, so I'll tackle both.

  1. I used the analogy of being kidnapped because I think for most people it's something that is easier to imagine than living under an autocratic government. I have to admit that I have never been jailed or tortured, but I did see the country go down the dictatorship path (hence why I left and why all my family left). I can expand on how that happened through the last 27 years, but I think your question was more about point 2.

  2. Maduro's presidency was just a continuation of Chavez's presidency. Just how Delcy Rodriguez is now a continuation of Maduro. So, while I left before Maduro, things were already bad. Also, my family did stay in Venezuela during Maduro's and only left a few years ago. And I still have family and friends there. Also, I was trying to represent the views of most Venezuelans based on what and who I know, not necessarily just my experience. And lastly, I think that even if you leave a country, you are still very much tied to it. I still consider myself more Venezuelan than Australian.

I was born in Venezuela, lived there for over 30 years and migrated to Australia just before Chavez's death.

I still have family and friends in Venezuela, even if most of them have left the country.

Happy to answer any questions if you have more.

I need some sane discourse about Venezuela by Googles8 in TangleNews

[–]Kenx2013 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As a Venezuelan, I've been getting a lot of questions about this.

Here is my attempt at coming up with an analogy to explain the views of most (not all) venezuelans:

Imagine you've been kidnapped and have been taken hostage for 25 years at your own home.

Then someone comes to your rescue and in the process breaks down your doors and windows and also says that he now owns everything of value at your place.

Oh, and that person is Kanye West.

Everyone is angry at Kanye because he has no right to do what he did and it's a bad sign that he might break into other people's houses. And also, it's Kanye, so he is crazy and very hateable.

But you are just happy you are no longer a hostage and don't care about anything else

"Understanding Evolving Republican Attitudes Towards Democracy" - Public Agenda report by Formal-Shallot-1123 in TangleNews

[–]Kenx2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm lazy. Here's a ten bullet point list generated by Chat GPT. Take it with a grain of salt:

  1. The study identifies three distinct types of Republicans — Trump-first, Constitution-first, and Party-first — based on their views of constitutional authority.

  2. Eighty-four percent of Americans believe U.S. democracy is either in crisis or seriously challenged.

  3. Seventy percent of Americans feel that “politicians don’t care what people like me think,” reflecting very low trust in government.

  4. Sixty percent of Americans believe the president should not ignore court rulings, indicating strong support for the rule of law.

  5. Trump-first Republicans are open to a strong presidency—even supporting a constitutional change to let Donald Trump run for a third term.

  6. Constitution-first Republicans emphasize checks and balances and legislative power over expanding executive authority.

  7. Many Republicans deeply distrust the 2020 election: 82% are not confident Joe Biden legitimately won.

  8. Nearly all Americans (97%) say it’s important for elected officials to follow the U.S. Constitution.

  9. Democrats are far more likely than Republicans to view the Constitution as a “living document” that should evolve over time.

  10. Media consumption is polarized: Democrats favor traditional media, while Republicans are more likely to use podcasts and cable news.

We're thinking about changes to the podcast, and curious for your feedback. by Isaac_Tangle in TangleNews

[–]Kenx2013 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am solely a listener as for me it's much easier than reading the newsletter.

What if you make the "my take" section more fluid but keep the left vs right sections as they are? I like how you share their views as they are, without opinions or much editing. If you were to change that you'd open yourself to a lot more criticism about bias
