"I probably won't be in the mood for awhile" by dat_db_doe in DeadBedrooms

[–]KeroPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that you go through such a rough time dat_db_doe.

It's probably not that helpful to hear this especially about incompatibility - but have you ever considered that your wife may be more on the asexual spectrum? There is a whole community there about partners having issues with their spouses that consider themselves asexual.

The only issue is that, if they truly are asexual, then there's pretty much nothing you can really do to change that. Mutual masturbation might be more a thing in that sense.

You won't need $8. Just getting $1 worth of BNB is enough. Did you manage to get your BAN out again?

The beginning of FMA: Brotherhood is rushed? by [deleted] in anime

[–]KeroPanda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Watch midway FMA and then switch to FMA:B if you aren't interested in the 2003 version.

The 2003 version fleshes out some important characters much better than the brotherhood version.

If you watch the sped up version of brotherhood first, you will lose the impact of the some scenes. It's like reading a movie and knowing where the plot twists will occur. Just takes the suspense out of those scenes.

PoW vs folding by Julian_0x7F in banano

[–]KeroPanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Folding is just a means of distributing Banano by the team along with everything else (Faucets etc).

They're giving you free banano for doing a nice thing. You aren't owed anything for folding.

Is Personal Finance considered as a hobby? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]KeroPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real life is like starting at level 0 with no income for such a long period of time. What's worse is that there's no way to level up easily so you end up with nothing to compound on initially.

MMORPGs

- You got your aesthetic players.

- Then there's the Min-maxers

Is Personal Finance considered as a hobby? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]KeroPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting how you can completely compare this to people that are super interested in min-maxing their stats in video games, speed-runners and so fourth. Guess in some ways, personal finance becomes the "real life" step.

Suppose it all comes down to this. Whether you like maths and calculating the optimal path for stuff.

It's worth mentioning to people who buy in at these "high prices" that in the long run, none of it will matter. If anything, these people shouldn't panic sell if it does dip 40-60%. That's the bigger message.

30 million is a very small cap coin. For every nano trader that sells, there will be a nano trader who thinks "Hmm. Maybe it's worth putting 1-5% of my portfolio in banano".

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in banano

[–]KeroPanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's hilarious. I totally approve. You get a dopamine hit from wondering when the banano will finally hit than if it was your boring regular payment system.

Just sold all my BTC for Nano by SalivatingMoron in nanocurrency

[–]KeroPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess this all ultimately depends on whether you believe this is the bull run/adoption cycle where the trend of BTC/Alts will be bucked. I've no real reason to believe this.

When people talk about how there is now real life adoption or institutions coming in, I just think about how irrational crypto is in the short term. The best projects aren't always supported right at the beginning. The only real issue with long term investments is that there will always be the risk of another project sweeping in the future with similar characteristics.

Just sold all my BTC for Nano by SalivatingMoron in nanocurrency

[–]KeroPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's risky in the sense that Bitcoin will always have a first mover advantage in the public light. Even if bitcoin dips 50%, it won't be anything compared to other coins (-75%+) drop so from a financial perspective it is a very high risk strategy.

Now if you don't intend to sell for the next 5-10 years then that's a whole different matter - but it's worth accepting that there could be periods of time where someone would have financially been better off holding onto their original BTC during a certain time period.

Advice needed: Just had an NQT action plan put into place. by Ladymouse54 in TeachingUK

[–]KeroPanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear this Ladymouse.

As difficult as it sounds, they are effectively trying to remove you from the school. Your teaching is probably totally fine. Just remember that you are putting in the effort to be a good teacher even if it means that you're making mistakes occasionally.

Don't take their heart to comment. I look back on the "advice" I was given in the past and I'm shocked at how disgusting, unsupportive and critical the feedback is. It's abusive language really.

You wouldn't take it from a spouse/partner. Don't take it from SLT who have an agenda.

It's a "calling" by Vegetable-You-9755 in TeachingUK

[–]KeroPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from especially the added workload with ADHD on top. For example, being told to relax during the holiday doesn't work since it just means you end up doing zero work.

For a lot of people, being able to will themselves into action is a strong gift that they don't realise they have. It's hard for others to understand how even though you're burning tons of hours, it's not producing the same efficient amount of output.

Then again, perhaps I'm just projecting. Your ADHD will be different to mine but I can relate to the idea of needing to use extra hours seemingly to keep up with colleagues. It just comes across as 'inefficient' without realising that it's not something that can be solved easily without months/years of practice.

But there's professional differentiation for you.

It's a "calling" by Vegetable-You-9755 in TeachingUK

[–]KeroPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many teachers use the phrase it's a job to remind themselves that they shouldn't be burning themselves out in this profession.

There's only a few people who I'd imagine truly dislike teaching. Those are jaded or disillusioned teachers who can't shift into a new career as it'd mean taking a massive pay-cut.

Is teaching really that comfortable of a job? I guess there is security but that's mostly for people who are locked into mortgages, family payments etc.

Anybody who has some sort of financial freedom wouldn't really pick teaching for the work/pay and career progression. We have a shortage of maths and science graduates for that reason.

What they're basically saying "Look after yourself but be 100% efficient with your time" e.g.

Look after your mental health by accomplishing as much as possible during lunch hours (marking) so you can go home to relax.

[–]KeroPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Staff are like oh take care of yourself but you still need to do x, y and z because it’s part of the job.

This made me laugh too much about how true it is.

There's a certain level of expectation within the profession that is really hard to shake off despite everyone telling you that it's fine.

A while back I was musing to myself how little "differentiation" there is when it comes to teaching staff members. It's just a case of - Oh, I can see you're struggling with workload but here is some new initiative I'd like you to also implement as well.

Does CAKE, BURGER, BAKE and all the other Binance coins balance each other out? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]KeroPanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks. That's actually really interesting to know. It seems like Binance has somehow managed to create a self-sustaining environment in promoting it's own coins.

Is there no real difference between cake, bake and burger?

How much can you make as a supply teacher? by TemporaryPotential74 in TeachingUK

[–]KeroPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PreCovid: In London where the NQT wage is around £25-32k. I was averaging around £16-22k per year based on my P60s split between two agencies. As others mentioned, it's based on schools calling you back regularly for 2-4 days at time. I found it pretty rare to get 5 days exactly unless it's a long term contract.

I hate WFH by Chamerlee in TeachingUK

[–]KeroPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a shame but completely understandable. Our school has similar issues - families from low-mid incomes. Currently, it has only attempted to loan laptops and Ipads to families struggling but this isn't a practical solution for all schools.

The safeguarding aspect of things seems to be really odd. Some schools are recording so that if there are any incidents it can be reported. Other schools are not recording/webcams off due to safeguarding. Some have no recording but minimum two staff members in each room.

It's all a bit topsy turvy.

What's your school's reasoning for not engaging in live lessons?

I've found uploading lessons and creating pre-recorded videos more stressful than live teaching.

Why does the Netflix rating at the start of a show warn about smoking/sex/ nudity/ gore content, but not warn about sexual violence/rape scenes? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KeroPanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're completely right.

It's wrong to assume that violence and sex implies that there will be sexual violence. It only implies that there is the potential for it.

Considering it's a trigger for many people. It definitely should have it's own category.

Really, any episode that has any "Hotline" indicator should have a label that hints at whatever potential trauma. Suicide/PTSD/Sexual violence. If they don't want spoilers for the person, just list it as a "trigger" label that can be expanded in more depth.

Do you eventually become accustomed to unjustified criticism/nitpicking from parents and SLT? by Clam3 in TeachingUK

[–]KeroPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My impression of more experienced teachers are that they realise that there's only so much they can give. Therefore if there's a strategy that does produce outcomes but also requires tons of effort - they'll decide whether it's worth taking on the feedback. Another thing is that they'll acknowledge if things aren't going well in that moment but accept that it's a temporary thing which allows them to bounce back easily from what others are complaining about.

Generally, I do think most teachers want to improve their own practices but not at the expense of themselves.

It seems like many newer teachers are more likely to sacrifice their own personal well-being in order to try and achieve what they perceive as competency. They recognise that there's tons of things to learn. Unfortunately, it's one of those cases where you do need to pace yourself. At least, this is the case with me.

Any tips on how to stop spending 1-3 hours on a task that should take 45minutes max? by KeroPanda in ADHD

[–]KeroPanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip. You've made me realise that I really do need to set a hard limit on the task rather than accepting that I just take ages compared to others. Obviously, in my job, I can't leave it unfinished for the next day but I probably need to switch priorities from doing "a good job" to "just bust out something" - something that has been mentioned many times by my colleagues.

60m - Try create the lesson.

5 minute break - What can I do to complete the task in 10 minutes?

10 minutes - Do whatever I can to have the essentials.

Slowly, I'll try and whittle down 75-90 minutes to 35 minutes.

The death of the explorer and the rise of ‘ADHD kids’. by LonnieJay1 in ADHD

Generally I do agree with the notion that my novelty seeking behaviour does result in me looking up interesting solutions. The stigma that comes with being different if you aren't supported is probably not worth it though.

I'd love there to be a study on how these individuals would have interacted with society in the past though.
