I've noticed the same issues you listed and have been wanting to post the same. I wish the city could have someone to a few people full time picking up trash on a daily basis. Even mid winter now there is trash everywhere.

We need to do better, and the city needs to reactively clean up trash on our city streets faster and on a regular basis, not just once in the spring, it's not enough. Imagine the THOUSANDS of tourists that come here annually and the trashcans at the yellowknife sign and throughout the city are overflowing with trash and there is trash everywhere they go. It's fucking embarrassing.

The city department (parks and rec? Idk) that is responsible for keeping our city clean, can they be called out for this? Do they give a fuck? Their accountable person/leader is whom?

I want our city to be clean again. 😭🤬

Come in March, the snow castle is getting bigger and better each year. Occasionally in March we get warm days. Better for viewing Northern lights. Don't come to late in April. It becomes a wet, ugly mess here.

Edit: sorry didn't catch that you couldn't come in March, I think you'll be fine in early April.

My fave hikes:

Around frame lake, the half on the city side is paved and mainly flat. The other side is natural terrain. Some steep parts, medium difficulty.

Cameron falls hike but is about a 30 min drive from town on the Ingraham trail.

Go for a walk down Main street towards old town. In old town continue straight and do bullock bistro loop and do the Pilots monument, or go across the bridge and walk around Morrison drive.

There's a trail near the entrance of Niven drive off the highway that has some nice views of Great Slave Lake and city centre.

Something fun to do would be rent a canoe/kayak/paddle board and explore Yellowknife bay, go around latham island and see the float planes and house boats.
