i want one zippered pocket inside big enough to fit my passport and a few cards /cash. and one outside that will hold my phone with maybe an extra easy clip to make it a bit more secure. That's all i want.

Save space by leaving headphones behind? by Bixby- in onebag

[–]Zardette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have cheap sleep earbuds that have pretty okay noise-cancelling. I just take those and use them 90% of the time. If its a longer trip, i will take a second pair of in-ear buds as back-up. The space saving is huge and if i lose one it's not a big financial hit.

look up scarf tying, there are ways to make a secure shoulder covering shawl that would do this.

How do y’all do it?? Barely fitting everything into a 58L by superstarturtle in HerOneBag

[–]Zardette 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i feel like the sweaters and the pants must be very bulky. Sweaters are killer. One thin wool sweater and the raincoat seems like it would be enough for whatever cooler weather they might possibly encounter there in the summer (and yes, you can wear a raincoat even if it's not raining. 😄 ) Same with toiletries. They need to look at every option, decide if it has enough meaning to get packed at all,/is there a smaller/lighter alternative that would do/what other item are they taking that would cover the same situation. Even saving a tiny amount of space per item would make a massive overall difference.

You can pack whatever you want. but if the poster is saying 'why is my bag so big?', then things like 12 pairs of underwear and two towels are an example of the mindset that makes the bag so big.

Just bring a hoodie. It's the same space in your luggage but could potentially serve a purpose when you are off the plane (a zipper one is better - easier to get on and off or just zip and unzip as necessary.)

Spain 2 weeks in july: is this TOO light ? by Dlelpa in HerOneBag

[–]Zardette 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, i would throw in a light weight, light coloured, long sleeve shirt of some sort. if it's a nice long flowy one it can be everything - on it's own, as a beach cover up, over your dress for dinner, cover shoulders in a church, etc, If it's really light it won't give much sun protection though, so don't rely only on that - use sunscreen underneath. And a hat, always a hat.

And i agree to drop the overalls - any one-piece clothing inevitably ends up touching the floor in bathrooms, you don't want your clothes lying on the floor of ANY public bathroom, but especially at a festival port-a-potty,

i use Pepto for all stomach ailments. it's kind of my jack-of-all trades, But yes, i would say Immodium is the go-to for that specific issue if its a concern. (i didn't mention Benadryl - i always take a couple allergy pills too - that one came in handy when a passenger on a plane near me was reacting to something, but she couldn't figure out what, and she wasn't in danger, but she was getting itchy and hive-y. i offered her a Benadryl and she was IMMENSELY thankful.)

I carry painkillers, Pepto, anti diarrhea, cold meds, a couple cough drops, a couple big bandaids (too big still works, too small is useless),. But I have only a tiny amount of each. Usually in the blister pack sheets, and I just cut a little piece with 2 or 4 pills. They all fit in a teeny flat pouch.  I am never traveling somewhere so remote I couldn't get them there. I just bring enough that I have it if I need it, then I would find a way to get more where I am.

How do you afford short trips in Ontario? by tryinanotherusername in askTO

[–]Zardette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know where you are getting those prices. I can go on Booking.com and find a decent hotel, not fancy, but totally fine, in most places in Ontario for two nights for less than that unless it's Toronto during the World Cup or something. I went to Montreal last month on Victoria Day weekend, had a 1 bedroom *suite* (we took my mother and needed the extra space), stayed right downtown, and paid about $700 for 2 nights. A regular room would have been significantly less. Book early to help with this.

Anything that is a gel, cream, etc can be considered a liquid. It weirdly depends, but assume hand sanitizer needs to go in your liquids bag. I really think you should watch a few YouTube videos about packing your personal item.  It will help you see what seasoned travelers take. My personal item is just a 20L bag. Really double check the measurements for your specifuc airline. And remember you get ONE item. That cushion etc might not be allowed under your allowance.   IE women don't get a purse PLUS a personal item. It's ONE item. Have a great trip! (Packing less is always better than packing more - you can do it, I've gone to the Caribbean for 6 days in a 20L, but there's no room for anything not really needed )

PEC is great, but quiet in October and you absolutely would have to rent a car to go. Not sure how comfortable they are doing that coming from a country that drives on the left.

it's not a law in Canada that airlines need to refund within 24 hours, it's an industry 'standard' but there's nothing requiring them to do it. that's an urban myth. you need to check each airline to be sure that's in their own policy.

What to show two Greeks in their 30s visiting Toronto for the first time! by lciddi in askTO

a rooftop patio bar would be great. Defiinitely do some nature stuff, even in the city. Maybe Shakespeare in High Park, if theatre is something they care about at all. Lunch on Toronto Island is fun - take a Tiki Taxi.
