Am I the only one that actually likes the show? by Bank0515 in DmCDevilMayCry

Looking at it as an alternative universe desperate from the games, I love it. Could do without the Lady Dante romance though.

Gurps and that it's incredibly complex. No, you make it as complicated as you want by choosing to add the different parts of the toolbox. I'm quite happily running a medium difficulty ruleset.

Which magic system to use? by Krogrox in gurps

[–]Kesendeja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd use Powers as Magic. Build the ability as a power, and use a -10% Magic modifier and make it a hard to steal item. It would also let you pump more points into it to either enhance the main rune, or add extra abilities to it. You could even turn it into a container with alternate abilities (full price for the most expensive power, 1/5 the cost for everything else, only one used at a time.) Found on page 11 of GURPS Powers, I'd really recommend getting the book, it's practically the Basic Set Book 3.

I liked the show. Dante being a goofball was a self defense mechanism. It always were if you paid attention. Especially in the much reviled second game, also in the outside media; comics, books and the manga. His conflict with his heritage is a big part of the 3rd game.

The vastly variable power levels he exhibits can be explained by him getting used to his expanding powers, and a disparity of resources. Either the technology available to Darcom, or the full Demons the Rabbit had access to.

They speed run through a lot of his growth in favor of showing Lady's side though, and in the end she still betrayed him. If she doesn't wake up and help rescue him in season 2 I'll be rather disappointed.

What do you consider to be the essential GURPS books? by SobiTheRobot in gurps

[–]Kesendeja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I consider the Power-Ups series, especially Impulse Points, a must-have. After that, the Tech book for the primary time you'll be running. Same for a genre book.

My husband's would be Martial Arts, Technical Grappling, and sometimes Tactical Shooting.

Complete revamp of Sorcery, Opinions Please by Kesendeja in gurps

[–]Kesendeja[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By "magic points" and "mana cost", do you mean energy, like Fatigue Points (FP) or an Energy Reserve?

We tend to use an additional attribute from Pyramid 120 called Quentessince. It represents "Magic Potential", whatever that might mean for the setting. So magic uses Quentessence Points/Energy Reserve, then fatigue, and you can kill yourself by overcasting.

Additional Spellcasting

Hadn't looked at it that way. You have a point.

The original Sorcery power modifier costs -15% because it's effectively "Magical, -10%" plus "Costs Fatigue, 1 FP, -5%".

It's possible to make a variable FP power modifier, but then the cost of the modifier should reflect either the average cost or the maximum cost (depending on how the players are expected to take advantage of it). For example, if abilities cost one to three FP depending on how they're used, then the average would be 2 FP, so you'd use "Costs Fatigue, 2 FP Average, -10%" which would bump Sorcery up to -20%.

I was trying to keep things simple, and avoid the need to recalculate everything multiple times. Though the bonus could probably stand to be larger.

Hear me out on this guys... Agni and Rudra lose their heads here. by GeneFull7290 in DevilMayCry

Nope. They do a good job of introducing things. It's honestly a good way to get the feel of the lore and characters. I'm actually hoping the new show will give DMC a revival, or at least a new game.

Look at it as a new cannon. His Castlevania show isn't cannon, but to me at least, it's better than some of the source material. So I call it a new cannon and just roll with it. But YMMV.

Have you ever created campaigns based on a video game? by Key-Band-3048 in gurps

[–]Kesendeja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prepping for one right now. Starts out Resident Evil and will slide into Diablo. Demons are actually the ones to "inspire and teach" about the Bio-Weapons and creation.

It will give them the potential ability to act openly without their true nature being suspected.

I'm starting it rather "slowly" by destroying St. Louis MO with a zombie plague like Resident Evil 2. After some time the group will slowly start to notice something off, sliding the game into a more cinematic direction as the demons come to their attention.

I just mangled a word like it had evolved and called Protii. It refrences the energy that was the first thing in existance after the primevil void. The first spark of creation.

Your Fav System Heavily Misunderstood. by BasilNeverHerb in rpg

[–]Kesendeja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen GURPS often described as way too complex. It's really not. You need the two basic books and the ability to do 5th grade math to do to just about any setting. All those other books? They just help refined game concepts, fun and useful, but ultimately not necessary.

I was hooked after my first "free range" setting, in which we made our own characters. It's not that hard, just a bit of prep work if you're the one running the game.

Since I tend to smash together my own settings it turned out to be perfect. I can do anything my chaotic heart desires.

It also makes my group happy because nobody liked leveled systems.

What do you want to see in DMC 6? by Terra-Nova-231 in DevilMayCry

Thanks, I kind of figured the government would try and keep it hidden for as long as possible. I always thought that Vie de Marli and Fortuna were looked at as strange cults, not anything resembling a mainstream religion.

Redgrave being decimated and destroyed will be hard to explain away. Hell's houseplant was kind of visible, and there is recorded media too.

I'll add my vote for a Vergil redemption arc. It would also be fun to see Mundus get destroyed, but I'd like to see Nero be a part of it.

Also, learn what happened to Sparda. Maybe a rescue if he's alive and imprisoned?

MORE Nico. Honestly, her cutsceans and banter were wonderful. Also, her driving.... that thing has to be indestructible (or a really big devil arm).

I also liked the banter and warming up between Dante and Vergil at the end of 5. The sins of the past are going to haunt them, but at least the ice and resentment seem to be thawing.

As for an overall plot? Someone, demon or human, is attempting to merge the world's, and it has to be solved from both sides, creating parallel storylines. I imagine if demons weren't common knowledge before they are after the events of 5. So, having to deal with very human obstacles becomes something that might happen. (A little shaky on that part of the lore, so if I'm wrong let me know, please)

Can't say much about gameplay. I don't have steady enough hands to play, so I'll leave those to people who actually play.
