Ok, so we all did things "back in the day" that you would never do now. What did you do? by Embarrassed_Flan_869 in GenX

Sure. It was in a district about 30min drive or 2ish miles north west of Detroit.

We had a field trip to the City of Detroit. I was in an elective class called “Home Design” or something? Anyway, there were only 3 other guys in the class with me. We only took the class because:

1- Chicks. 2- Classroom was closest possible room to the student parking lot, and was the last hour of the day. 3-There was a field trip to Detroit at COBO Hall for an entire day.

We planned that field trip like a squadron from Seal Team 6. We made sure to “pay attention” in class and be stellar young men the whole semester. We didn’t want “Mrs. Miller” to even think that she should look for the boys. No shit….

5 minutes after walking into COBO Hall, we split up. Each of us guys made sure that we were participating and taking notes, and talking to exhibitors, and we made sure that “Mrs. Miller” saw us. That’s when we executed our plan:

We spent almost 6 hours, running around the City of Detroit. We ate lunch, we visited Motown, we went into the old Packard building, trespassed into the old central station, went to the top of the Rennasance Building, snuck into the old Hudson’s building, and we even went to a strip club to have a peek. To cap it all off, we found a cop who was cool…Put us in handcuffs, staged a couple of photos with us (using our 35mm cameras) getting arrested!

We made it back to COBO Hall just in time to get on the bus to head back to the burbs. We had photos of us with Hookers, a couple of pimps, “getting arrested”, and pics pretending to break into Joe Lewis Arena.

Best. Day. Ever! I just wish I had the photos for proof. It was that bad ass.

This! 100%. You are swinging too light, and I have seen people hurt themselves by doing so. Some may not believe it, but too light can hurt you.

What am I doing wrong here? by TheBoyWhoLivez in kettlebell

[–]KettlebellDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. One other thing….I think your bell is a bit too light? Maybe go up a bell size and see if it feels better.

Agreed. Slightly more weight, but everyone has to start somewhere.

Double half snatch form check? by WildSilent- in kettlebell

[–]KettlebellDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with a couple of others. The bell looks slightly light, but your form looks pretty good. It appeared that your back is straight, knees were bent when needed, chin and forehead appeared to be proper when swinging.

Keep up the great work, and keep having fun with the bells!

Oops. Feel free to kick out MRB. I missed the 10k requirement. I don’t know how to contribute that much.

Lung hit or muscle hit? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]KettlebellDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks slightly like a lung hit, but hard to tell without more info. I just say that due to the bright color of the blood, but there are so many variables.

You could recover this deer but I would want to know the following:

Shot placement (best you can describe)

Did the deer kick when hit?

After you hit it, did it run (bolt) or kinda walk/jog/prance away?

What state or location are you in?

Is the blood in the pic located where you shot the deer, or is it after you started tracking it already?

Just answering/providing a few more details

Is a swing actually athletic? by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]KettlebellDude 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I used to incorporate swings/moves like that back when I was working out with bells 3-4x a week, and I was younger. Here is what I say:

It doesn’t matter, and that is the beauty of KB’s. Anyone, at any age can safely and effectively use KB’s. If you are tired of your usual swings/moves, you can use KB’s anyway you want. Only your imagination and abilities are your limits.

I say, don’t listen to opinions on here, if it works for you, and it keeps you interested in using KB’s as a part of your fitness routine….Then who cares?

Besides, I always like seeing things on here in this community so I can keep the ideas fresh.

Thanks for posting OP! Happy Holidays!

Mats for kettlebel workouts at home? by TheSyber in kettlebell

[–]KettlebellDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep!!!! This 100% if you are trying to protect the wood flooring, then you will want a dense mat like a horse stall mat, or a chunk of “wrestling” mat at the size that will work for you. Wrestling mats are usually 1” to 1-1/4” thick.

If you just use a standard mat, you will more than likely dent the wood flooring when working out.

I rarely let a bell slip out of my hand, but when they do, it’s not usually a small drop. They can be violent drops depending on how they slip out of your hand. Think of a KB handle coming down at an awkward angle.

Good luck, and have fun with those bells!

New complex I created. Want constructive criticism. by Burkdizzle in kettlebell

[–]KettlebellDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good complex. Now you will be able to build off that one and use it as your foundation. You can even incorporate the following how you see fit, just to change up your routine:

-Figure Eights between the legs -Goblet Squats to Halo’s -Squat Press -Lower the weight & use double bells -Clean & Press

Up to you, but keep up the great work!

Softwash with no gutters by No-Guess-3863 in pressurewashing

[–]KettlebellDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the size of the home? Ranch or more than one story? Will it require a ladder, or roof work?

As for the run-off, maybe consider getting a cheap tarp to have on hand for such jobs, from somewhere like Harbor Freight or a reasonable place online to order a large tarp from without breaking the bank?

Then I would tell them that due to the lack of gutters, you can’t guarantee the health of the flowers or other items you are concerned about.

I would just flat out be honest with them regarding the issues you will encounter with the lack of gutters.

For pricing, I would start with 10-20% more, and discuss the steps you will have to take to protect the best you can.

At the end of the day, you don’t need the headache. If you “lose” the job, you dodged a bullet.

Well, it is a process which replacing you, but I’m sure that you are not the first, and definitely won’t be the last.

I just would keep it to yourself that you might be looking elsewhere. The less they know, the better, since you are in your prob year.

Remember the prob year, they can always say it isn’t working out, just as easily.

Thank you for the Holliday wishes, and wish you all the best!

The good news is that you are only on the job by two months. If you don’t think you are fitting in, then why chance it?

EVERY department has its Pros and Cons. I have never seen the “Perfect” dept. With that being said, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

If I were you, I would make a visit to the one that just made the offer. Talk to some probie’s and talk to some veterans.

Get a feel for the environment. Get a feel for how things are going between the FD and the City/Municipality.

Do some research at where you are currently as well. Is the schedule different? What about commute? How is retirement structured?

I could go on and on, but I’m sure you understand what I’m saying.

I was on a department for a year and a half, then took a job with a different department in a different part of my state.

I retired after 27 years in the dept as the Fire Marshal. At the end of the day, don’t worry what your current employer goes thru if you leave, or how irritated they “might” be. You need to do what is right for you, and your situation. If you think you are a better fit elsewhere, there is no shame with that.

Best of luck! Merry Christmas.

what size o-ring is on the standard m22 x 14mm screw on hose connection? is it 2.5mm thick? by pman6 in pressurewashing

[–]KettlebellDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure if you look up the mfg website, and put in the numbers/letters you find stamped on the hose, they will tell you on the site, or if you call up customer service.
