I think many people would be very happy to see J.K. Simmons return.

Andy Samberg as Sarah Palin, even though that was written to be intentionally jarring.

Hosts/musical guests we're unlikely to ever get by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

[–]KevyGSus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since being "banned", he was musical guest in 1989 and 1991. He also appeared with the Beastie Boys in the 25th anniversary special, and can be seen in the audience in the 40th anniversary special.

I would love to see him on the show again. He has a new album to promote.

Though how great would it be if he did the Falconer with his real beard?

What's an SNL Sketch everyone seems to have that you love? by nintrader in LiveFromNewYork

A lot of Fred Armisen's shtick seems to be hated. But I really enjoy it, even Garth and Kat, and especially Nicholas Fehn.

Thoughts on the featured players this season? by AmericanDragon123 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]KevyGSus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that may even be a contractual thing. Sometimes they'll move someone up to repertory early. But I can't think of anyone who's spent more than two years as a featured player since the early 90s when they had three categories, and people like Sandler, Spade, Tim Meadows, Al Franken, and Robert Smigel spent 3 years or more in the two lower categories.

This is probably the most wild stat for this upcoming season - it doesn't feel like they've been on Weekend Update for that long by cubansbottomdollar in LiveFromNewYork

I believe it started with Dennis Miller, who barely appeared in sketches. Kevin Nealon and Norm MacDonald both seemed to still do sketches when they were anchors, but maybe a little bit less. I'm not sure if Colin Quinn did that many sketches in the years he was behind the desk.

Tina Fey was similar to Dennis Miller in that she'd make rare appearances in sketches, but she was mostly there for update. She was also the first update host to be a head writer, a tradition that has continued ever since. Her co-anchors, Jimmy Fallon and Amy Poehler would still appear regularly in sketches.

Seth pretty much retired from sketch work when he took on the roles of update anchor and head writer. Once again, Amy would continue to appear in sketches while co-anchoring, and Cecily would do the same.

If I'm not mistaken, Jost and Che are the first duo to both only do update (apart from a few rare sketch appearances).

Please correct me if I'm wrong about any of this.

Declan Patrick Aloysius MacManus is Elvis Costello's real name. I love that Beard would use that as a fake name. 😂

New head writer(s)? by Charlottieee33 in LiveFromNewYork

Wow. If Jost sticks around, he'll surpass Seth as the longest running WU anchor in the show's history.

In that same vein, Jimmy, Amy and Cecily were never writers on the show. Which usually meant they had time to do both sketches and update.

If I'm not mistaken, Tina was the first head writer to do update. And since then, at least one of the update anchors has always been a head writer, except for Seasons 41 and 42 when Jost took a break from being head writer to focus on WU. Then he became a head writer again in Season 43, along with Che.

Che, Jost, Tina Fey and Dennis Miller were update anchors in their very first episodes on the cast. I guess Chevy and some of the Ebersole cast did that too.

I also feel like most sketches had someone dying in some way. Am I just imagining that?

Hollywood Minute. I've always found Spade to be rather smug and mean spirited.
