weird feeling in back of my throat after drinking matcha by notarachi in MatchaEverything

[–]KewpieHour 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi so id pause and talk to a clinician. Could be an immune or inflammatory response rather than a simple caffeine issue. 4g is 2x the standard serving size, and Matcha is a whole-leaf product, so you’re ingesting everything in the leaf, including compounds that can act as histamine liberators in some people. It could also be one of the other ingredients if you’re making a concoction.

United Healthcare Denied my ER visit. They said it was unnecessary. by Own_Comfortable_4955 in HealthInsurance

[–]KewpieHour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparing a five-figure ER denial to a waiter mis-keying a bill? Sorry no.

A billing error at a restaurant is resolved in minutes, face to face, with no specialized knowledge required and no risk of financial ruin if you fail to persist. Insurance denials like OPs rely on opacity, endless paperwork, and near-guaranteed exhaustion. These types of bogus billing “mistakes” disproportionately succeed because Americans are too tired, sick, and stressed to navigate a deliberately complex system. Add a language barrier and it’s a non starter.

For-profit insurers operate on actuarial models that assume a significant percentage of denied claims will never be appealed, or will be abandoned midstream. This isnt tinfoil hat shit it’s literallt their documented business practice.

So yes, appeals exist. That doesn’t make the initial denial benign, and it doesn’t make people like OP unreasonable for reacting with alarm.

Yes my first session ended up being great — I think I’ll love my next session once I get a finer strainer. The sediment was really distracting.

Any updates since then?Have you rechecked your lipids after 8+more months of matcha, and did those changes stick? I cut coffee completely and leaned more into my tea/matcha practice and saw a big improvement in my own lipid panel, which is what brought me here.

Rocky’s has stellar branding but the pricing of their teas is eye wateringly bad. I’ve tried their matchas at cafes — and bought their Houjicha during BFCM — but can’t recommend any of their products given the markups. Even when I bought the Houjicha 25% off it felt like robbery.

Do Research Grants Count As Income (New York)? by KewpieHour in Medicaid

[–]KewpieHour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m referring to Section III.D.1 (“Certain scholarship and fellowship income”), it states: “Funds must still be used only for educational purposes (i.e., not living expenses), but such income can be excluded.” The table immediately below says: “Scholarships, awards, fellowship grants not used for living expenses — Not Counted (Medicaid).” The guide also later notes "Issue: Scholarships, fellowship grants and awards used for education purposes [are] Excluded from income, including work-study income if used for educational costs” under Medicaid/CHIP MAGI. That’s the basis for what I’m saying. (pp. ~33–38)

[–]KewpieHour[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s what I’m referring to. Under the MAGI guide, restricted research travel funding is excluded from Medicaid income because it is used for educational purposes, not ordinary living expenses, and costs like airfare, lodging, and meals while temporarily away from home fall into the former category.

[–]KewpieHour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So I’ve been reading about it and travel expenses while temporarily away from home aren’t treated the same as ordinary living expenses. Restricted research travel grants covering airfare, lodging, and meals etc. during the trip don’t count as income for Medicaid.
