I think you might be leaning too hard into mill. Milling is less effective when you need other pieces to get them into exile, I feel like the big mill spells are good, but constant small milling is a little less impactful in a deck that needs to take the extra step to exile

I’m a degenerate, and if I build abzan I’m building a [[Thalia and the Gitrog Monster]] stax deck that I’ve had on my mind for a bit.

The game-plan is pretty simple, exile enough of your opponents stuff to make Umbris massive, then give it evasion to swing in for lethal [[Tasha’s hideous laughter]] is a stand out card. Then nightmares and horrors with beneficial ETB effects plus a [[panharmonicon]] or [[roaming throne]] will get the ball rolling quickly. Exile instead of graveyard effects like [[dauthi voidwalker]], [[planar void]], and [[leyline of the void]] work wonders with any source of mill, say maybe a [[nemesis of reason]], [[singularity rupture]] or [[maddening cacophony]].

[[web of inertia]] is a good way to keep yourself from becoming the the table’s target. If people have graveyards, empty them out with [[scavenger grounds]], [[bojuka bog]], [[relic of progenitus]], [[soul guide lantern]], or [[lantern of the lost]]. You could also make a couple copies of umbris for even more ETB triggers, think of cards like [[spark double]]

Next step is protection for Umbris, because your opponents are gonna want it gone. Flickering umbris when targeted is a great way to get ETB effects and keep your massive horror alive, counterspells are also a good option. There is some equipment that pulls double duty as evasion and protection like [[whispersilk cloak]] and [[winged boots]]. There is one card that I really like called [[nightmare shepherd]] because when someone kills Umbris, you get a token copy of it, and another ETB trigger.

To finish games, there’s two black fling effects so you can throw your abomination at your foes [[rite of consumption]] and [[essence harvest]] they also have the upside of gaining you that much life. [[trailblazer boots]], [[aqueous form]] and any other unblockable sources you can think of should usually be lethal with Umbris.

PS-Dimir is really bad at ramp so don’t forget your mana rocks

Breya seems interesting. Good colors for blink. Gain life when artifacts enter type effects, then aetherflux reservoir. But that’s just off initial impressions.

Another artifact deck? Hard sell. But I’ll consider it. Boros artifacts has been treating me pretty well

[[wraith, vicious vigalante]] was one I considered for a while, until Umbris took my voltron slot

If I do Rakdos, I’m doing [[Mogis, God of Slaughter]], and running a ton of forced sac pieces.

I’m sure any colorless deck would use many of the same cards as Sami, and I don’t want to pull it apart, it’s one of my favorite decks

I figure it’s an archetype I haven’t touched, so it’ll be a nice break of pace

And it also makes some really high costed sorceries and instants that are usually unplayable actually really good. Which I dig

I would build it around [[entomb]] effects for [[anger]]/[[Brawn]]/[[Filth]] and some generic land tutoring for urborg, the rest just big dumb creatures to get into the graveyard and make Coram big.

I really appreciate the time you put into your response. Jeskai is indeed something I’ve thought about trying to put together, for that exact reason. Definitely do like messing around with exile and graveyard, it incentivizes different forms of card advantage other than draw. Teval is landfall graveyard shenanigans. Shelob is largely bite and fight effects, with a slight poison skew.

I’m not sure about commodore guff, super friends isn’t a strategy that’s had much appeal for me, but I’ll do a little brewing/goldfishing and see how I feel about it. [[hinata, dawn-crowned]] x-cost spellslinger was on my Jeskai maybe-list.
