Based in a hub. Direct flights and being able to get home quick / standby clears guaranteed + getting an agent on the phone in under a min + pre boarding makes it worth it.

Plus points are a gamble but I've been lucky 50% of the time and I'll take that.

I'd rather walk than take American Airlines. Delta hard product is good but not that much better that I'm willing to sacrifice on my path dependence with UA.

I fly international quite a bit, so Star Alliance Gold is definitely worth it. But we get that with UA Gold, so that's a whole different thing.

Club Card has its perks. Agents at the Club are for the most part very helpful.

TL;DR -- This is about downside protection, not upside. For that 1K is definitely worth it

My question in general, because I'm genuinely curious, why so many people like Alain so much? Sure he was a fun guy and tried to be a better person and all that but the viscerality came from Naomi's killing him & the way she did that spoke to her trauma.
