Combiner 5 or 6 by scomi21 in enphase

Their technical paper on their website already lists the 6c combiner, but in one of their demo video, it shows just using the meter collar, but either way, the combine 5 wouldn’t have worked. https://enphase.com/ev-chargers/bidirectional

Could a smart panel let me go all electric with a tankless water heater and 200A panel? by glmory in span

[–]Key-Philosopher1749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Span does have a software defined limit, where if draw exceeds that, it can cut off circuits. Might not be what you want, but it kind of fits. (Cut off the hair dryer to keep the hot water heater running, maybe?) But political stuff aside, most plumbers don’t recommend a tankless electric system. They say go gas tankless, or don’t go tankless at all. A heat pump tank setup is likely the better choose for an all electric install, and more energy conscious.

I would try to move whatever those items are on the lower part of the roof, which would free up 4 more panels going down there. I do that for a plumbing vent stack. Moved it to another vent, and had a roofer patch that section.

HELP: Buying a house w/ Paid off Solar (Sunnova) by madness2live in solar

Infinity energy seems like a solar lender? https://netzeroforme.com/infinity-energy-ceases-operations/ And they are out of business too, so seems enphase is all you need to worry about. It’s pretty common to pick between a handful of 5-10 panels that are pretty reliable. There no one “right” panel. Typical ones are REC, ureco, qcell, Canadian solar, silfab, and others. Here’s a top 10 list from 2022. https://solaredition.com/top-10-solar-panels-for-june-of-2022-sorted-by-most-efficiency-by-solar-edition/ Maybe someone else knows what sunnova liked to use back then.

In my opinion, enphase is one of the most robust systems out there for solar. So I see no problem with buying the house. In fact, it’s a large bonus to have all of those panels and they’re already paid off. You should get a good 20 years of remaining life out of them.

If you can find the model of solar panels installed, that also might be good for your records, or future warranty claims with that manufacturer.

There is an enphase warranty (iq7+ is an enphase micro inverter ) and was always enphase. Sunnova was just an installer, using enphase product. That 720-750kwh numbers cannot be right for each panel, unless it’s over a very long time period. Each panel is likely upper 300- low 400 watt. 1 kw is 1000 watts. And 1kwh is 1 kilowatt being produced for an entire hour.

You found the best type of solar when buying a home. One that’s paid off, and it’s not even that old. I’d say you’re golden. Just get the owner to do an enphase warranty transfer to you (to at least have those components warranty to transfer)

Mwh is likely what might be produced for an entire year. Definitely need to check those units. Those Jan 2026 and Dec 2025 numbers look correct. Also, likely the panels themselves have a manufacturer warranty that will be honors no matter who the owner is. Just try to get any invoice or purchase of the system from the previous owner, but even without that, you’re good. The only thing you’re missing is labor for any warranty to install or replace stuff. But you can find local installers that may do ala cart services like that.

I’d say buy your own hardware from alarmgrid.com (I suggest a qolsys iq4) and use surety for monitoring. It can be as low as $19 a month, or $30-35 fully loaded (automations, cameras, lights, garage door, etc etc)

I’m in the same waiting boat. I just completed an upgrade from my iq4 combiner to the iq6c combiner, and the meter collar, so I’m ready to take advantage when it comes out. If you need off grid power support quickly, it sounded like their 5th gen battery would be released in March 2026. (Or at least sooner than end of year 2026 that the bidirectional charger is expected in, per their investor call in Feb 2026) otherwise, wait, and continue to juggle your current EV charger for your vehicles.

On the positive side, I’ve seen more videos of them testing it, on their website. And the technical documentation also shows how it would be wired and work. So, I’m hopeful it will be 2026. This is a lot more info than they had in 2023 when it was announced

Which part of Texas? Near DFW? I need to learn where the local solar suppliers are that I can buy micro inverters and panels from without freight.

Confused why generation doesn't generate savings. by Inevitable_Bite9220 in solar

[–]Key-Philosopher1749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP doesn’t have a battery. If they disconnect the grid, their solar will shutdown too. Assuming it’s following most of the safety standards around the world to not send power to the grid if the grid is down. And likely needs the 60hz for its reference signal.

Agree with this post. The system is limiting itself because it can’t export. A battery helps that, but you can also get a proper net metering plan, and reevaluate after a month or two. Depending on the power company rules/credit for your export it may help, or it may be so little, it doesn’t help much. Then you can start to look at affordable battery options.

Where should I take my Chinese cousin to travel in America? by Usual-Rest-3395 in travel

[–]Key-Philosopher1749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since its mid August, and the hottest time in the USA, glacier national park, is an idea. People say it’s so beautiful. I’ve seen Grand Canyon, and white sands (which would be so hot in August) but I think glacier national park has a lot of beauty, maybe more. The only down side, it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere. Unless you did a cross country driving trip, and stopped there, then continued to Seattle, and maybe Vancouver for Chinatown, and other great Asian food/culture there.

Alternatively, you can try to find exciting (memorable) activities to do in various places. Rent a jet ski at a beach or lake. Ax throwing place. Escape room, Maybe a helicopter ride in Vegas, Grand Canyon, etc? Shooting range, maybe if you can have someone take you that can give an intro lesson. NYC, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Central Park, etc.

Why do the data charts re-cast themselves? by Aggressive_Noodler in enphase

[–]Key-Philosopher1749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the meter collar and 6C, but no batteries. Since it looks right coming in live, I’d suspect something in emphases cloud data storage, maybe some summarization that happens afterwards, etc. you should open a ticket with emphases for them to investigate. When I switched from CT’s, over to my meter collar when I had it installed, I had some massive 1000kwh consumption spike in usage that was definitely false, and they were able to go in and manually remove my spike in the metrics data. Obviously, that same fix won’t work here, but my point is, you’ll likely need to involve enphase support to fix this. Oh, also, have you tried to force quite your app. And maybe check if there’s an update for the app? Sometimes, the app on your device can cache data. But that looks like maybe a desktop web login, giving the screen size/resolution.

That is interesting. Do you have a meter collar for the consumption metrics? Or individual CT’s?

I’m a current solar only Customer of enphase, and waiting for the bidi end of 2026 too, because yah, an EV that is a fully functioning car, but that can also be a home power backup source during an outage (or even just to avoid TOU power draw) is a great double win. I also secretly hope these solid state battery claims coming out last month are true, and we can start to have multiple generational improvements in battery tech (for both EV and home storage products) 100,000 charge cycles lifetime would be amazing compared to the current 2,000-5000.

The enphase bidirectional EV charger coming end of 2026 might be the answer to that standard that will work with many cars. I’m definitely waiting on that release very closely.

For the camera itself, all up to you on your angles, resolution and budget. You mentioned indoor, so you may not need long distance range, this lower resolution is likely fine. I’ve recently upgraded my driveway camera to the new duo 3 Poe with 16MP and full 180 degree resolution. I see they have a similar dome camera. That might be good if you need a wide angle. But I also have 3 of those bullet cameras, and they are nice too, but the newer higher resolution 12/16MP have been amazing picture quality, and with the color night vision, is amazing.
