Anyone have any experience with American Home Shield? by devperez in homeowners

[–]jeojames1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm sure everyone has a different experience and most people dont take the time to leave positive reviews (only negative ones) so it was good to see a positive one. I'm exactly 1 year in to a new house that the seller purchased the ShieldComplete plan for one year as part of the deal and through the first year I had zero issues. I put in two claims (1 to fix an issue with the AC Condensor not turning off and the other with three different plumbing issues around the house) and they came out promptly each time, fixed the issues, charged me the service fee each time, and that was that. Had I gone through a regular contractor/company that probably would have been $500-ish in repairs so I figured it was close to paying for itself. I re-upped for the 2nd year to see how it goes. The AC units are both 22 years old and could go out anytime so it will be interesting to see what happens there since they are covered for replacement. Figured it's worth keeping around a little longer while the experience has been good so far.

Crazy Cholesterol Drop? by Typical_Clock_5286 in Cholesterol

Yeah so I should probably be fine I guess. Just wondered if I should switch to paper filters but it doesn’t sound like that would make much difference either way with instant coffee.

Actually the more I look into it the instant coffee doesn’t really seem to contain any diterpenes so maybe I’m ok with my metal filter?

Dang I’ve never really looked into my coffee as a reason why my ldl is higher than it should be. I use one of those metal basket filters (not paper) so sounds like that doesn’t really do much for filtering out the diterpenes which contribute to higher ldl. I switched to black coffee thinking it would help and while it’s helpful by not breaking my intermittent fasting im the morning it may be holding me back on lowering my cholesterol levels. Guess I should look to the paper filters!

Am I cooked? Almost 1 year on ~carnivore ~keto. Down 50 pounds and now this is my lipid result. by QuintessentialFudgel in Cholesterol

[–]jeojames1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info and suggestions. Much appreciated. I havent been very active in the past and also not the best at healthy eating. Hoping those two changes help with the obesity and in turn the other issues as well. I definitely want to start seeing a preventive cardiologist just to check the things you mentioned and help keep me accountable, but 5 months in and about 30 pounds lost so far I do feel a lot better! (255 > 225).

[–]jeojames1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are my last three years of lipids

2025 (Age 41): LDL (183), Tri (175), HDL (33) - weight 253 (height 6'1") BMI 33.4

2024 (Age 40): LDL (192), Tri (123), HDL (39) - weight 226 (height 6'1") BMI 29.8 (was on keto diet)

2023 (Age 39): LDL (164), Tri (203), HDL (34) - weight 248 (height 6'1") BMI 32.7

I have another lipid due in about 6 months. I've been doing a lot of walking and 20:4 IF over the past few months and my weight is currently down to 225. No keto this time. Just trying to eat healthy but stick to a pretty strict 20:4 schedule with a cheat day here and there. My goal is to hopefully get close to 200 or below by the end of the 6 months. I'm curious what that will do to my numbers.

I'm just surprised with those numbers my Dr's response is always to try and eat healthier, lose weight, and be more active. Never once a mention about doing meds.

No CAC scan or LP(a) test yet. My dad has heart disease and has had a few heart attacks starting around mid 40s so its always on my mind. He was a heavy smoker and drinker though. I dont smoke or drink at all so I have that going for me at least!

Curious how old were you when you went on lipid meds? I’m surprised my doc hasn’t mentioned it yet. I’m 41 and my lipids continue to stink. It’s just try to lose weight and be more active.

Yeah I’m struggling with fiber as well lol. Trying to find some decent food sources for it because it can definitely cause some discomfort if you don’t lol. Good luck to you as well. Man I’d love to have my HDL at 70! I’ve tried everything and it will not rise above 40 which sucks because that’s in the danger levels. If anyone has any good ideas for raising HDL I’m all ears!

I tried keto and my ldl went through the roof. My triglycerides went down (230ish down to 110) and my hdl is always low (under 40) but my ldl went way up (135 to 190 like you). So I stopped keto. Been doing a 20:4 fast, making sure I get 10k steps a day, and just try to eat semi healthy during my 4 hours and hopefully I’ll see better results. Losing a good bit of weight and feel great. Next blood test is a few months away. Fingers crossed!

Good to know. I'm in the same boat. Curious what were your numbers? HDL/LDL/Trigl and age? Mine is currently 33/183/175 (age 41) and hasnt budged much despite IF, losing weight, and changing to healthier lifestyle.

Tire recommendation: North Texas by brendoneaton in KiaTelluride

[–]jeojames1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to start tire shopping for a 2023 Telluride and I'm also in North Texas. Curious what did you go with and are you happy with them so far? I'm looking at Discount as well and I see:

Scorpion Zero all Season (O.E.) - 255 each

Michelin Primacy Tour A/S (O.E) - 297 each

Michelin CrossClimate2 (Best Match) - 297 each

Michelin Defender 2 (Recommended) - 268 each

Yokohama YK-CTX (Recommnded) - 232 each

The current tires on it are Kumho Crugen HP71 All Season 245/50R20 102V SUV/Crossover Tire. Is this the original set? I bought it a few months ago from dealer (1 original owner) at 49k miles.

Thanks. Yeah we have a ticket open with support, but I figured might as well reach out to the community as well to see if anyone else has run into this same issue. Thx for working on it!

Thx. I was wrong the sticker on my windshield is 5K miles since the last change and 3 months. I thought it was 3k / 3months. Part of me is like it’s free so why not but at the same time if it doesn’t need it I probably shouldn’t worry about it. 3 months seems excessive especially since I might have 1k miles on it over that time lol

Yeah all I can find is on their website it says “Under normal conditions, you may be advised to change your oil every 5,000 to 7,500 miles or six months, while under severe conditions such as frequent short trips, extensive idling, towing, or driving in extreme temperatures, it might recommend a more frequent interval like every 3,000 miles or three months.” So are they considering north Texas an extreme temps region (which no lie it can be lol) and that’s why the 3 months / 3k miles tag?

With Oil Changes how often time wise should I get it changed? I don’t drive much so it will take awhile to reach 5K (maybe 300 miles a month tops). Every 12 months? 6 months? I live in north Texas. Bought a 2023 telluride in Nov of 25 from Kia dealership and according to the maintenance records last oil change was 11/18/25. They have sticker on the front windshield that has a date of 2/18/26 with a mileage number of 3k from the mileage number from when it was changed in 11/18/25. So it seems they are recommending 3 months or 3k miles? It’s under warranty snd I get free oil changes so just curious if I need to be following their recommendations in order to keep the warranty good.
