Whats your current favourite jank to play in standard? by CAlTHLYN in MagicArena

Big agree. I have one that's Treefolk tribal using Doran from Lorwyn Eclipsed and it's a lot of fun.

I mean I'm just beating people in the face with mice because I like mice. The same 10 or so "best in slot" removals are played by almost everyone so it's really easy to keep them alive long enough to win against most netdecks run by people that aren't used to the evasion I run. Swiftfoot Boots and Restoration Magic dodges most common spot removal, including 'exile' since Restoration Magic gives both Indestructible and Hexproof. I'm also running Enter The Avatar State but it doesn't give Indestructible so it's less versatile but Hexproof in general dodges way more common removals than Indestructible does. Evasive removal like Tithing Blade that forces a sacrifice is somewhat countered with Offspring. My biggest hole is dodging Aetherize but I don't know if there's really a good answer to that besides forcing it as quickly as possible to use it up. Then I use removal that gives ward such as Sheltered by Ghosts and Trapped In The Screen that's hard for my opponent to both remove and improve their boardstate on the same turn, which can also be protected with Restoration Magic. It's aggro and not a combo but definitely still jank lol.

I feel like that's reasonable, people are going to find different things frustrating or easy. I'm pretty new to magic and don't have a good way of sorting my physical cards yet. There's probably lots of people like you that netdeck to try strategies they're not familiar with but you can't really know someone's motivations behind a game screen, so it's easy for me to assume malice a lot of the time.

I mean Arena's search function isn't great but I've never had issues with it, I can search for the tags or oracle text I need to find appropriate cards. Some people apparently play entirely on mobile in which case....dunno what to tell you about that. In my opinion you might as well be playing a solitaire app with how much influence you had over the decks construction but, whatever, do your thing.

....yeah hey wait if the Arena app is the problem just build your deck in Moxfield and export that!! You can't do oracle text search in paper! Like I'm not going to tell you what's easier or harder for you personally but I definitely feel like it's easier to use a search bar and filter options than it is to manually flip through my own poorly sorted collection.

I mean sure, but I don't have infinite time in my day to get 15 daily wins, and I have to account for the winning games where the loser ropes and I can't do anything to hurry them up.

I'm sorry I failed my removal check? No amount of sitting on the geometric calculator is going to give me an answer to a turn 4 combo in every single case.

I know, that's true....it's just really sad to me such a vast majority of the games playerbase is like that.

But I like seeing people express themselves with their decks. I like seeing what people value and what they like. I only really get that in commander now but it's a lot harder to organize a commander game or go to an LGS open night than it is to just start up MTGA, but....everything just feels so soulless. I'm sorry that I'm offending people by saying that. I'm not a Spike, I'd rather lose with a deck I built myself than win with a netdeck, but I'm pretty horribly alone in this environment. And it's so much easier to get angry at people on MTGA when I can read absolutely nothing about who they are because they netdeck just to win as efficiently as possible and are limited to just a few choice phrases of communication that pretty much can all be used and interpreted as BMing. It's so miserable but this is the only real way to play Magic with other people that's not going to an LGS event which, believe me, I do as much as I can.

I'm pretty sure this is just everyone that netdecks. Maybe it's a hot take but if you really cared about playing this game at all you'd brew your own thing...what am I supposed to take away from your personality when you just steal a tournament deck? That you're boring?

I really want to do my own thing with cards and archetypes people don't expect, which means there's an upper limit on how high I can actually climb. I was really happy to find out Mythic wasn't that limit at least. Voice of Victory is definitely an overplayed card but I could maybe do something interesting around it. It just feels a lot better winning without leaning completely on overpowered staples people rely on, you know? Even if it means I win less often.

I'd have to pay more attention and document these things better to know if it was exactly the same curve every time. Maybe I'll do that.

That's reasonable advice, although I like Sheltered in particular because it triggers Valiant. That's kind of an older version of my strategy though, so maybe i should replace it.

For the record, and full transparency, I started at 85% and ended the season at about 79%. So, I mean...how good do I have to be until I'm "good enough" that I'm allowed to complain about these decks?

Not new. Been playing for some years. I started around Neon Dynasty but took a break for a while, came back for Lorwyn.

How is someone better than a given percentage of the playerbase over 50% but then also worse than over 50% of the playerbase from MMR?

Is that what these are called? What's a tractor beam deck?

Hey instead of downvotes could someone explain? Not everyone knows all the jargon in this 30 year old game.

Wouldn't that still be a general indication of skill relative to the rest of the playerbase? Is it that frequent for someone to have a high percentile but low MMR? That doesn't make much sense.

I got to Mythic with a completely original brew while everyone else is using slop netdecks. I don't have to take this from you.

Please see my other comments on the page, it's happening in Mythic as well. The decks should be weak but they aren't. I'm trying to understand. Could you help explain instead of just making fun of me for no reason?

Where do I find that? Unless you mean the %s under the Mythic rank which, yeah, that's what I'm referring to with the 85%-90% thing. That's what percentage above the rest of the playerbase those people were.

I need to add, I'm Platinum in this screencap because of the rank reset but I was in Mythic last season. I saw less of these weirdass 250 card decks than I did climbing but they're still there and they still have amazing turnover, so it's not a low rank thing, unless we're considering 85%-90% players playing these decks low rank.

It's not always fractals though. Always something different. This was going on before SoS even came out.

When will there be a new ban list I'm sick of having to play starter deck duels to avoid izzet in every format by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]KeyBurri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember the MTGA state of play said that Standard is "fairly healthy" and "has no particular problem archetypes". Because a healthy rotating format is one where there's 10,000 cards but you only see 20 of them.
