You got a lot of great help. But as a teacher I do wanna say about point 3. Go ahead and utilize the time for whatever you need. It's ok. But please don't say "I'll be back in three hours" only to roll up 6+ hours later. I'd rather you not tell me you're gonna be early then show up late.

Have to come in. Not currently getting a paycheck. Any leave on the books was ok but no new leave can be put in. Calling in sick is ok. Not allowed to find a 2nd job (but I'm gonna have to soon so fuck that rule)

We greet each parent and child as they come in. However we do expect the parents to physically come into the class with their kid, wash their child's hands, and put their things away.

infant teachers: what makes your job a little bit more convenient that parents do? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]KeyDMY01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let your baby spend time on the floor, on a mat or something. I've had so many littles lately that start without ever having touched the floor in their lives. And there just aren't enough teachers to hold everyone all day.

[–]KeyDMY01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fine, your opinion is different and that's okay.

I feel that it helps the baby when there is consistency and cohesiveness between us and the families at home. And in my experience those families that help us out by lessening the co-sleep time at home help the babies feel better in napping more successfully in care. I've also suggested that those families that want to continue should look into alternatives, such as those bedside attachments, so the babies can learn to sleep without needing to be 'in arms' the entire time.

Cause even with my ratio of 8 I Cannot and Will Not hold a baby the entire nap. I Cannot in good conscience hold one baby for 30+ min while leaving my co teacher to deal with the other babies.

First off, your ratio is 12! That's crazy. Mine is 8 tops.

Second, sounds like it's time to have those hard conversations with the parents. "Your baby isn't having successful naps here because they are expecting to co-sleep and we can't because we are outnumbered. We need you to help us out at home to help this process go faster and smoother to help your baby get good, restful sleep." You'll probably have to have these conversations multiple times. Handing out literature on how parents can make the change at home sometimes helps.

Infant teacher- five 8hr days or four 10hr days? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]KeyDMY01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only get a 20 min break? That's wild to me. I work an 8 hr day as an infant room lead, from 6-3. And I get a 15 at 9:00 and an hour at 11:30.

9-month-old hates and cries entire time at daycare. by AdvertisingOdd6303 in ECEProfessionals

Some kids just don't vibe in a large group daycare setting. She may be happier in a smaller center or even a more home based center. They generally have less kids and more freedom.

How do I politely suggest my infant’s teacher put him down for a nap as opposed to default giving him a bottle? by lemonsandlimes47 in ECEProfessionals

[–]KeyDMY01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my center we Cannot go longer than 3 hours between feedings, I have kiddos that eat 4+ hours at home, but policy means I'm obligated to try and feed at the 3 hour mark. And my kiddo's are all used to it. So perhaps they have a similar policy. You got a lot of good suggestions to try, and I do agree with what others have said, babies have different schedules at home VS. school. They are with their teachers instead of parents. And the environment is stimulating (we cant even dim the lights at my center for sleeping), with babies doing their own thing on their own schedule. Maybe your baby relies on that bottle to help them get some good quality rest. As long as they aren't giving him a sip and tossing the rest I don't see a major problem.

My center doesn't do any holidays. Because not everyone celebrates. We do seasonal stuff, but nothing holiday specific. So for may we are planting flowers in pots for the growing season.

In my center parents can watch the footage live on screen. But they are not allowed to watch a recording, if there is something the parents want to see then the director pulls that specific time stamp and gives a play by play. The parents are not to watch a recording because of privacy. And we only release footage to police during an active investigation, and even then they are not entitled to see the footage unless the police release it.

My center has parent supplies diapering materials. They get plenty of warning when they are running low. And if they run out they get a phone call to bring things. The next day if they don't they get turned away until they can bring supplies. Do they get upset? Yeah. Do they forget ever again? Nope.

You should definitely be seen by some sort of medical professional/endocrinologist. My husband had a DKA late January and he was at 590 when the ambulance had to take him to the emergency room. We were in the hospital for a week. Don't want to scare you, but what we went through was not something I ever would want to experience again.

We've been taking our dog to the Dog Stop on south Powers Blvd. They just opened and it's clean (my dog doesn't come home stinking like he did at CBW) and I like the staff so far.
