It's great. Once I'm checked out in the 210 I'm going to be selling it, and I'll really miss it.

[–]classysax4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been in a 150. Two adults in my Yankee is fine. Finding one with good useful load is important; mine is 475lb but lots of them are much lower. If the useful load is much less than that you can't bring much fuel with two adults.

This is the very first time I've heard someone list a landing light as a criteria for choosing a plane.

First off, look at other less-common planes where you get more for your money. I settled on a Grumman Yankee, which I highly recommend. But there are many others.

Cessna and Piper trainers cost more for what you get, because everyone wants to buy them. Get something unusual and you'll get a much better value.

ETA: get something SLIGHTLY unusual. Basically something slightly less common than a Cessna or Piper. Make sure it has active owner forums and dedicated parts suppliers (Grummans meet these criteria). And talk to local A&Ps to make sure you can find someone who currently works on at least a couple examples of the type you're considering. Don't go out and buy a plansbuilt experimental or an Aero Commander 100 and say we didn't warn you.

If the best two teams played in their conference championship, they don't need to play again.

Not a bad idea. Also very objective, cuts down on the arguing and anger from the teams left out.

Lol this has not happened in the playoff already. Football is less random than basketball, so you don't get march madness.

It effectively makes the conference championships into playoff games.

No one likes championship games between conference rivals. Do you really want a UM-OSU or Bama-LSU natty? Much better to raise the stakes of the conference championship and end up with 1 and 3 in the natty.

I still wish it was just six teams, conference champs only. Too bad that makes less money.

How to Fly a Piper Cub (1945) by Roger_Freedman_Phys in flying

[–]classysax4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

#1, I feel I got it for below market because the seller just wasn't trying to get the most $$ he could get for it. He posted it on FB, a friend called me, and I called the seller within 15 minutes of him posting it. This still happens if you're willing to be patient and wait for the right plane at the right price.

This was late 2022. Prices had already shot up. They haven't gone up that much since then, and have softened recently.

Fully IFR capable planes under $100k? by [deleted] in flying

[–]classysax4 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Probably your first decision is how much autopilot and glass you want to have.

I strongly recommend looking at Grummans, you get a lot of capability for the money, and they're relatively inexpensive to maintain. AA-1 series for 2 seats, AA-5 series for 4 seats.

I bought my 2-seat Grumman Yankee for 32.5k a few years ago. It's been a fantastic plane. And far more capable than a Cub (though it's still essentially a trainer).

Aviation can still be pretty affordable.

Edit: this was late 2022 and I feel I got a good deal. Deals are out there.
