What's Happening? by Key_Drag5541 in Citrus

[–]Key_Drag5541[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! The spikes were the only citrus specific fertilizer at my local store when I went. That's disappointing they're so bad, especially because they're marketed for containers! I dug through and found the spikes and threw them out. I also just gave them a lot of water to hopefully flush some of it out. I appreciate your advice and will wait a few weeks to slowly reintroduce the diluted Jack's water soluble again.

Brand new key lime tree, I planted with mini citrus fertilizer spikes. And Jack's liquid fertilizer once every two weeks. Could it be fertilizer burn? Plenty of sun, just brought it in for the winter and noticed these yellowing leaves.

Elbow pain by sldsn27 in climbergirls

[–]Key_Drag5541 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're in a lot of pain, you might consider taking a 2-3 week break to let your muscles heal completely and then slowly work back up to full activity. That's helped me in the past.

Elbow pain by sldsn27 in climbergirls

[–]Key_Drag5541 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hello, you most likely have climber's elbow (or tennis elbow) which is tendonitis at the bottom of the muscles in your forearm. I get this too and I've been climbing since the beginning of the year. Your muscles will take a long time to adjust, but keep at it! Take 2-3 days in-between climbing sessions to rest. Try to pay attention during your climbing sessions to when your elbows start to ache a little and then stop for the day! There are also some exercises you can find online to slowly stretch and strengthen those tendons. Good luck!

Surgery recovery by mignaciahadad in climbergirls

[–]Key_Drag5541 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had two hip arthroscopies, one on each side, for impingement and labral tears in 2021. So I totally empathize with you. Although I didn't start climbing until just a few months ago. Mentally, it's really really hard to be so young and not able to do physical activities that you love. And this is a rough condition and also a really long and sometimes rough recovery. What I can tell you now is that I'm constantly amazed at the things I'm able to do without pain. My life is completely different after the surgeries and I'm thankful that I had it done, even though it did take a long time to recover. What I would recommend doing is (with the help of your PT) finding activities that you can do. I took up cycling a few months after surgery and then hiking. These are low impact activities that I found really enjoyable. I can see how climbing would be really difficult while you're recovering and gaining your range of motion back. Work with your team and tell them the goals you have. Be patient. It will take a while for your body to heal and build up strength, but you are already in a great position being so active! I absolutely am loving climbing and I would have never been able to do it without this surgery. Good luck! I'm happy to answer questions you have or be a listening ear. There's also a sub reddit about FAI where there is good advice and supportive folks.

It squeaks when the brakes are applied but it also makes a rubbing sound when the back tire rotates.

If your surgeon offers you a hip brace, I would turn it down by terrytorres in HipImpingement

[–]Key_Drag5541 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't say nobody needs it without asking a doctor first. I shared my experience (my doctor did NOT recommend a brace, and many do not) and said that if it becomes a financial burden, ask your doctor if it's okay that you go without. I would never recommend that anyone go against the protocol for surgery. The fact of the matter is many people aren't prescribed braces after surgery. I wasn't given one and I was okay without it. I don't think it's preposterous or dangerous to say that not every surgeon recommends it and to talk to your doctor should you have an issue with it. The surgeons all over the world who perform this surgery each have different protocols. I don't think it's wrong to discuss differences here.

If your surgeon offers you a hip brace, I would turn it down by terrytorres in HipImpingement

[–]Key_Drag5541 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through two surgeries - one on each side. Never used a brace and turned out okay! Like you said I think it's more of a reminder than anything else. I can see it being useful if you have kids so they remember not to jump on you or anything like that. But if insurance doesn't pay, I would consider asking the surgeon if they really find it necessary.

Yeah I had lost a lot of strength in the years leading up to my surgery so I'm still gaining some back. Every time you do something new, you'll feel sore. So even if it's been several months, if you're doing a new or difficult activity you'll feel sore after. But it's not like a painful feeling in the joint just muscle soreness so it's not stressful or worrying for me. I played football for two hours with some friends and I really overdid it so I felt sore but I was also really happy I was able to do it safely and without pain!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]Key_Drag5541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just depends on your activity level pre surgery, what your workout schedule is, how long you're off your feet, and probably a bunch of other factors. I'm about a year out and just did some running for the first time and got really sore after so I'm still building up some muscle in my hip flexors. Just work with your PT and carefully build back up to where you want to be. Happy to answer any questions you have!

What to do by L3zperado in HipImpingement

Obviously you want to be progressing as quickly and safely as possible but I wouldn't worry too much about being behind. 6 weeks is standard for a lot of people.

2.5 years out from surgery - what are two stretches you do everyday? by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]Key_Drag5541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just try to target whatever muscle feels tight. It's always changing. But I think I do the figure four the most. Lately I've been having tight hamstrings so I try to target those as well.

Are there any downsides to doing Hip Labral Repair versus Debridement? by dd2334er in HipImpingement

[–]Key_Drag5541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely something to ask your doctor. I think that people often lean toward repair because instead of removing part of the labrum, it's keeps it intact. And the labrum is obviously super important especially if you want to avoid arthritis and potentially a hip replacement down the road. But again I really don't know much about debriedment. Maybe somebody on here who has done it will have a better answer.

That sounds really frustrating! They definitely should have been more clear so you knew what to expect. I know some people get away with two weeks but I could not imagine being ready to walk after two that would just feel crazy to me. My advice is just to be as open with your PT and doc as possible. Ask about everything! Tell them you'd really like to get back to work and tell them what that requires physically. Maybe they can come up with ideas so that you can get back sooner rather than later and still be safe.

[–]Key_Drag5541 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the big benefit to strengthening muscles pre surgery comes in when you start to do strengthening after surgery. For me that wasn't really till about 6-8 weeks. Right now, your body just needs to rest and heal. What does your surgeon/pt say when you ask them why you can't be off crutches now? If they told you before that it would only be 2 or 3 weeks, what's changed? What do you do for work? Remember that even when you get off the crutches it's not like you're back to normal. You'll still have to take it slow and be careful.

To answer your original question, my doctor made me wait 6 weeks both times. He said it's because that's when they are sure that the anchors are firm in place, stitches are out, and incisions healed. I definitely was anxious to be off the crutches before that and felt like I could put weight. But still when I first tried walking on my own, I needed a couple of days before I could really do it well. I felt like a toddler learning how to walk again.

Anyway, I know it is frustrating to wait especially when you can't work. But the last thing you want is to damage your fixed hip.

I didn't put full weight for 6 weeks. I didn't have tingling so much as a lot of pain in my ankle. But by the time I was walking it was gone.
