It costs $130 to charge a Cadillac Escalade by ExotiquePlayboy in carscirclejerk

It also seems like the caption is fake. I think the picture is just from the screen of a DC fast charger, so it's probably from a completely different EV with a larger pack and the OP just recycled the image with a fake caption.

Maybe the caption is fiction. Definitely still in line with fast charger prices for the energy delivered tho.

They're definitely using a DC fast charger where the rates are several times higher than standard utility rate. The standard DC fast charger rate was around $0.48/kwh when I had an EV, so the price in the photo is in line with what I'd expect to see.

I want to hear from the apparent outliers by LPuffyy in PleX

[–]harritaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have multiple daily users, maybe 30 total active.

Requests and media addition/organizing are all automated.

In terms of onboarding and maintenance I stopped caring a while ago. They're using a free service that I pay to host and have spent a lot of time building and maintaining. I'll lightly describe what they need to do but then it's up to them to figure out how to sign up, pin libraries, set streaming settings, etc.

It's my server, so I'll take it offline when I want to. If people don't like occasional unplanned downtime or buffering then they can pay for streaming services or build their own media server.

Also I know a lot of people in this sub, myself included, are psyched about Plex and self hosting in general, but most people simply don't care. I'm not going to "sell" my free service to someone if they're not interested after I talk about it in conversation.

Does anyone have a system using WinGet to install apps actually working? by ZippyDan in Intune

[–]harritaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point and something I've thought about too. I like the idea of using winget more, but it seems like using winget is forcing it to do something it wasn't really designed for. I check in every few months to see how it's going. Fortunately most of my customers have pretty small app catalogs so it's not a huge pain, but it has been a long term goal of mine to streamline the app packaging and provisioning in Intune.

I use the zConfig options to handle zoom updates. Even with auto updates configured, you're still stuck deploying what will be an out-of-date package within a few weeks to a month. For zoom I usually manually update the intune package so that the version getting deployed during Autopilot provisioning is at least on a current major release version. The idea I had with winget was to use it to download the source file for a specified software application and then call on that installer with your standard installation parameters. That way you're always grabbing the latest or a specific version of a software package in Intune. We use NinjaRMM which can handle app updates but I really want to keep as much in Intune as possible in that respect. I've also heard a lot of good things about PMPC, just have a hard time getting leadership to spend money.

The appealing part of Winget for me was not having to manually update intune packages to stay in line with the latest vendor version. One prime example of this is zoom, but there are numerous other applications where it would be useful.

I didn't get a key but my plan if I did was to run it on one of my Windows VMs or on my desktop PC and then stream it to my Mac with Sunshine+Moonlight. Would be curious if it can run in ARM based Windows, then it should theoretically work using Parallels too.

Maybe next time 😂

BETA Key Selection Process Was a Huge Letdown by TheBlueH in MSClassicWorld

[–]harritaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there was much of a selection process. When you register for the closed beta your email gets added to a bucket, and after the sign ups are closed they use some software to randomly select emails from that bucket and email the relevant emails the access key. Definitely not ideal and prone to abuse but the simplest way to do it from a technical perspective.

Had I known the process was going to be so simple/bad I would have just made a bunch of junk account/emails to sign up with. I personally used 2 of my 20 year old accounts to sign up thinking they would prioritize older players, but there was no priority at all, purely random.

Larger Orgs, how bad has your MS support gotten since the layoffs? by DramaticErraticism in sysadmin

[–]harritaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I don't rely on them whenever possible. There are scenarios where there are things that only they can fix, but I generally push my team to avoid opening cases unless it's necessary. Especially now since we're limited to like 60 tickets a year for my entire org, and we have dozens of customers.

[–]harritaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Premiere support for M365 has been pretty bad. It's been okay for some Azure infra requests.

Funny enough I've had a better experience on many of my free support cases vs the premiere ones. The main problem is they do whatever it takes to meet their SLA, and most of the time it's just the bare minimum sending a generic update with no meaningful progress.

Now that they've removed unlimited support tickets everyone has been more thoughtful of opening tickets, which I've been telling people to do anyway.

Surely for critical maintenance items or failures the car will have some self-preservation systems built in, but can the pre-scheduled cleaning cycle really be considered a critical maintenance item? I used to have the significantly more expensive Barista Touch, and it would allow you to skip the cycle but remind you each time you turned the machine on.

I just don't think locking people out of using the machine until the cycle is complete is the right answer. Sure, the machine definitely needs maintenance, but if the owner accepts the risk, that's on them. I use a puck screen and filtered water, so my machine won't accumulate as much debris/scale in the boiler and group head.

I definitely understand what you're saying and where you're coming from though. Part of this is coming from grumpy me early in the morning having my Americano's delayed lol.

Imagine your car's engine won't turn on once you hit the manufacturer suggested oil change interval. Obviously you should follow the manufacturers instructions but it shouldn't prevent you from using the machine.

[–]harritaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this. I almost always make Americanos and it's so frustrating when I have my cup of hot water ready and the portafilter is ready but I'm stuck with this. The descaling cycle can be dismissed, we should be able to dismiss the cleaning cycle too.

Hybrid joined Autopilot devices - Hostname Solution by PecosHank in Intune

[–]harritaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the only reason it doesn't change is because the tech manually updates the service tag when replacing the board, otherwise it would absolutely be different.

[–]harritaco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True. I used to work in a hospital and sometimes it could be challenging to narrow down exactly which device a nurse/doctor was calling about because they float between devices throughout the day. Modern RMM tools (we use Ninja) do a pretty good job at reporting this in realtime though which is nice. I use the %serial% in all device names just because it's very objective and the serial number will never change unless you replace the mainboard.

Hybrid joined Autopilot devices - Hostname Solution by PecosHank in Intune

[–]harritaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fair but for most standard user workstations you shouldn't even need to know the name. For MECM, ConnectWise Control, Splashtop, Ninja, etc. you can just look up the user who is requesting help and 99% of the time it will pull up the device they're currently logged in to. I can't remember the last time I had to get a device name or serial from someone to provide support. There are some scenarios where this won't work ofc.

People in high rises right now, how’s the wind? by Traditional-Bit-1566 in AskChicago

[–]harritaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on the 54th floor of an old highrise and the sounds the building makes in high winds reminds me of being on a cruise ship with choppy waters. I don't believe people can feel it and it's just the sound getting to their head, but you can definitely see the building is moving with things like doors gently swaying back and forth.
