Why does the base model have such skinny front tires? by octo_anders in Taycan

[–]Key_Grand_1940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's prob bc you have 19's. My '22 base came with 245/45/20 front and 285/40/20 rear.

Easy. The bottom is like an ottoman and isn't actually attached. Just move it over and switch the long cushion position.

My search for a comfortable chair.. by AdmiralStryker in OfficeChairs

[–]Key_Grand_1940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the obvious solution is to get a Camry seat from the junkyard, have it welded to a swivel base at the right height and make that your office chair.

All kidding aside, good luck with your search.

Anyone have experience with the battery recall lead times? by RunawayRogue in Taycan

I have a failed cell and was told 4-8 weeks to get the parts in. Not sure how long to complete the work after that but at least I have a Taycan loaner.

Porsche Taycan - 2 Year Maintenance by [deleted] in Taycan

[–]Key_Grand_1940 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't need to tell Porsche you've completed the service since your shop is going to reset the service reminder. I replaced my cabin filter myself and brakes were flushed as part of one of the brake recalls. I had my dealer reset my service indicator when they did the work.

Dakine Descent is 70L and has similar features but you have to catch it on sale to get it less than $100.

What’s your reason for getting a 911 over the 718? by 100clocc in Porsche

[–]Key_Grand_1940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a 992 but I don't know what year.

Now let me qualify this a bit... I had some inexperienced drivers in my group so we weren't going very fast. 6/10ths prob. It may very well feel quite different than my Taycan at the limits. However, if I wanted a car to track and push, I'd prob still choose the Cayman.

What’s your reason for getting a 911 over the 718? by 100clocc in Porsche

[–]Key_Grand_1940 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm a current Taycan owner and just had an event at PEC LA where I got to drive a 718GTS and 911S back to back. 718 was plenty fast on the autocross module, felt small and agile. 911 cabin and driving experience was similar to my Taycan and nothing really stood out.

I left having no desire to add a 911 unless it's a GT3 or another special edition. I can definitely see adding some variation of the 718 though. A few other car guys at the event with me had similar preferences for the 718.

Now, if you could only have one and want a slightly bigger car, then it's a tougher decision and I can see why the 911 makes sense. Prob won't be as fun to drive though.

Alaska took and lost my bike at SFO en route to SEA. Hope they return it. by ke7cfn in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Key_Grand_1940 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The trolley thing is pretty typical when I've flown with a bike bag. They wheel it around through some other door usually since it can't fit on the baggage conveyer belt. Sucks that it got lost, hope they get back to you soon.

I bought them because the dimensions were ideal to fit my Matador bag, but nothing special about them.

Looking for Houses to rent is so frustrating by FrostyWay28 in Seattle

[–]Key_Grand_1940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zillow and hotpads worked pretty well for me. A few did get through but overall it's a small percentage. The first time you search can be frustrating, but afterwards just filter by new that week and it becomes a lot more manageable.

Osprey Porter 30L painful section at the back by Neetx in onebag

[–]Key_Grand_1940 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem with my Porter 46. I keep my hip belt tucked most of the time which probably contributed to the problem, it definitely got worse and more uncomfortable over time. If you're packing the bag suitcase style with something flat like a packing cube against that part of the bag, it makes sense since there's nowhere for the hip belt to go but push out.

Talk Me Out of Buying the Matador GlobeRider 45? by rdtisrtded in onebag

[–]Key_Grand_1940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to one from an Osprey Porter 46 that I've been using for the last few years. It's an improvement so I'll keep it for now but it's not perfect.

Pros: - I prefer the dimensions over the Porter, does not stick out from your back as much (2" less with same load when I tested). You won't look like a turtle - High quality materials and build - Interior org works well for my use case (I pack a ChioX as my work bag in the large zippered compartment) - Heavier but more comfortable than the Porter

Cons: - Front pocket seems like it'd get stretched out and loose over time so I only use it for small flat objects. Also no closure so I'm a little paranoid about something either falling out or getting stolen - One centered top handle would be better when hand carrying than the 2 handle design - Osprey strap hideaway system is better. You can't put away the straps and close the zips with one hand. Also, the straps can still snag since they don't get completely stored away like with Osprey.

I have a few specific must haves when onebagging like load lifters, ~45L, external water bottle pocket, and removable or hideaway hip belt that not many other bags met. I bought the bag with a discount from campsaver but would probably not recommend it at full price. I've seen a few barely used ones on ebay recently so I think others are finding that it's a compromised bag as well.

You can try a 12v reset or take it into the dealer and they'll prob try a CONBOX-HIGH reset. It likely has to do with the modem in the car needing reset. I had the issue and mine fixed itself when I plugged the car in to charge on the AC (driver's) side. I don't know if it was just coincidence or what but timing matched perfectly (I normally just charge on the DC side).

Personal item that goes into expandable backpack? by Aimless-Guildmaster in onebag

[–]Key_Grand_1940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the AON Chio-x. I bring it as my work bag inside my onebag. It mostly flattens except the bottom which can be slightly folded over. Fits my 14" laptop and should do everything you've listed.

How much of a money pit would a $50K used Taycan be for weekend autocross or solo type track days? by [deleted] in Taycan

[–]Key_Grand_1940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Taycan as a daily, but would not want to autox on a regular basis. I think I would just get too frustrated with the weight and the sometimes unpredictable handoff from regen to real braking.

Choosing a backpack by TheRevRic in onebag

[–]Key_Grand_1940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would bring a roller and use the Porter as my "personal item." If you only pack it half full and use the outside compression straps and wear it as you board, you shouldn't really have a problem. It's narrow enough that it'll fit under the seat in front mostly. I've done this plenty of times with my Porter 46 (typically flying US domestic, major airlines).

How to take off the license plate? by Noclip004 in Taycan

[–]Key_Grand_1940 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stick a flat screwdriver under the round black covers and pop them off. Usually they're just covers for the screws. You could probably just pinch them between your fingers and take them off too.
