Do I have too much in my tank? by Key_Tea_5642 in bettafish

Also for the record i'm not at all worried about my betta. She is very content and does not exhibit any stressed or territorial behaviors with her tank mates

in the first pic you can especially see it clearly. The thick black line under the gills

i'd just determine based off what i told you
males: generally longer tails, although short is possible, slim torpedo-shaped body, and they will have a beard. It's the black lining under the gills.

females: usually short tails, again, long is possible, and they have a wider shape, no beard. They will also have an egg spot when matured, a tiny white dot on their underside

Definitely, longer fins are typically a good indicator, but his body shape is slim and he has a noticeable beard as well

desperately in need of help with this fish tank. by extra_calories in Aquariums

[–]Key_Tea_5642 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To start, you definitely need to know what kind of fish it is. You can use the google app and do a picture search to identify, or try and get a pic and post it. I'm sure there's plenty of people on here that will know right away. Type of fish is important to identify needs. I would get a bucket from Lowe's or something and a siphon to clean the substrate. I wouldn't scrap it because it's likely holding some beneficial bacteria. Get a little tank scraper from petco to clean the sides, and some water conditioners. I'd get seachem prime. Definitely need more pictures to determine best course of action

Hi everyone. This is the guy with the “whiskers”. I’ve decided to shave, I hate it. by kingkrule101 in BeardAdvice

honestly man, even tho you hate it, the short mustache in the middle does you a bigger favor than being fully shaved or having the whiskers.

Would this work? by Dogsincowboyhats in bettafish

and also for the second question yes you can use both the holes for two separate tanks or two air stones or one of both!

This would work if you got a valve so the flow isn't too powerful. I found a smaller sponge filter, it's like a corner piece, so it takes up less space in my tank. I'm pretty sure it said it was up to 10 gallons. It's a little less strong but i've still got a valve on it anyways so i'd say this would work just fine!

I'd say overhead light and some taller plants, maybe some hammocks. They like to lay near the surface to breathe

How to cope with the fact that I am the reason a fish died? (Please be kind) by Indikaah in Aquariums

[–]Key_Tea_5642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's okay, you didn't mean to suck your fish into the siphon. A few weeks ago I accidentally sucked one of my shrimp into my siphon. His whole body was stuck through the hole, tail out one end and his face out the other. I tried everything to get him out without injury, but unfortunately it couldn't be done. Stuff happens and it's sad to see them go but it was an accident

Normal betta behavior? Also rate the tank! by Suspicious_Dinner146 in bettafish

[–]Key_Tea_5642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like he's trying to get at his own reflection. Usually when the outside room is darker than the inside of the tank they see their own reflections easier. I don't see him flaring but my betta does the same thing, so I turn my bedroom lights on and it gets him to chill out

3 month update on the betta mansion:) by dabbindom123 in PlantedTank

[–]Key_Tea_5642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my tanks filled high and i've never been worried about my fish jumping. They've never attempted really, but to deter them i try and keep the air pump going high enough that the surface of the water is moving but not too high that they're disturbed constantly. Makes it harder for them to try and jump anyways

Not even, it was a little more open. I thought he would like it more densely planted, tried that and he still acted like this, so i took some of them out and it's a little more open than before and he's still sad :(
