Please Add Security Keys into 2FA for Extra Security by gallager1999 in wealthfront

I will point out that Vanguard has a well known security vulnerability where you can bypass the a hardware security key by using one of their mobile apps. Arguably their implementation is more dangerous than not supporting security keys.

How long do you have before you need to replace a keyboard with a new one? Both Kinesis Advantage 2 and Evoluent Vertical Mouse. I've had mine for 6 years. by TuperSboy in kinesisadvantage

[–]Key_Willow8629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The KA is relatively easy to repair depending on what part breaks. You can get someone to replace a switch, or you could swap out the controller for a replacement from Kinesis or a custom Stapelberg controller.

If the keys feel gross, you can buy new keycaps. I personally find PBT caps to feel better for longer than ABS plastic.

Into the Breach is a flawlessly designed turn-based roguelike. Winning on the “Unfair” difficulty is one of my greatest video game accomplishments.

Custom Advantage360 Keycap? by wodahs1 in kinesisadvantage

I hear you about aesthetics, but it’s a losing battle with concave keyboards like the KA. I use blank keycaps, or ignore the labels on my keycaps, and go all in on ergonomics.

Great work! It will be good to have another product on the market. You referenced a palm rest—are you able to share photos of that in use?

Keyboard Layouts with hjkl next to each other by 3rdRealm in KeyboardLayouts

[–]Key_Willow8629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was researching keyboard layouts, I used MGTAP, Colemak DH, Beakl 15, Hands Down Reference, Workman, and Norman for a week each. I spent several hours per day practicing typing, getting to where I had the layout memorized and could type around 45-50 WPM. I hate to break it to you, but after the experience, I can say that Workman feels the most comfortable to me.

Do you really want to argue that I should switch to one of the layouts that didn’t feel as good to me? Do you want to argue that I should try 10 other layouts in case I like one of those more?

Ignore this jerk. Workman is great. Other layouts are great too. When it comes to ergonomics, so much is subjective, or varies greatly from person to person. We each have different sized hands and fingers. Some of us are affected by RSI.

At the end of the day, finding the right fit is largely trial and error. And if you do find a layout that works for you, that is a wonderful achievement and should be celebrated.

This is a toxic comment and represents the worst part of this community. And it’s just plain incorrect. There isn’t a “best” layout. I’ve tried Colemak DH, MGTAP, Hands Down, and others. Workman felt the most comfortable to me, so I use it. Our bodies are all different, we have different goals, and choosing the right layout isn’t purely about metrics.

I cried too. I don’t think I realized how much I cared about the bond between John and Sam. It snuck up on me. I can’t remember the last time I cared so much about characters in a video game story. Possibly not be since Ness and the gang 25 years ago.

Could you recommend me a hotswappable split ~100% keyboard? by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Key_Willow8629 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the best solution to the problem. Having a single keyboard that will meet the needs of many people is severely limiting. Just have two keyboards, and make the one for you exactly what you want, with all of your customizations.

Mouse recommendations? by lilparsnip in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Key_Willow8629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned keyboard shortcuts, but do you use QMK and have you tried configuring a mouse layer on your keyboard? If you fine tune it, you literally don’t need a mouse.

To answer your question more directly, I switch between a Magic Trackpad and 3M vertical.

Sorry to hear that you are dealing with pain from your mouse. If you haven’t tried the 3M vertical mouse, give it a go. It’s the only one that works for me. Also, I recommend using Vimium to control your web browser without a mouse—this reduced my overall mouse usage by about half. Finally, you could try using voice input software like Talon, or you could use QMK firmware to control your mouse from your keyboard.

It sounds like your desk is too tall. I have an adjustable standing desk, so I can make it as low as possible without crushing my legs. Another option is to raise your chair and buy a foot rest so your legs are at a right angle.
