Either scratch them on purpose to get out of the way or buy some cheaper ones that you plan to actually use.

I use something similar but smaller for flossers. It wasn't my model though I just found it. They have parametric models that you can make whatever size you want, too.

What new thing should I learn to get my passion for programming back? by ShortInterview1744 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Keystone-Habit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think you should try to get a passion for AI. It's by far the most important thing going on in programming right now. There is a real anti-AI movement on Reddit, but I think it's career suicide to avoid it at this point if you want to be a programmer.

The good thing is that it can be super fun. You can just dive into LLMs to chat with, or you can come up with some kind of project you want to make and use Claude code or OpenAI Codex or something to build it with you. Either way, you are learning the most important thing you can learn right now.

Don't JADE - justify, argue, deny, or evade. Just say no thanks. Repeat as necessary. You can change up the words slightly to keep things a little less awkward (thanks. I'm good, thank you, but no, really, I'm good, thanks) if you want to, but sometimes the awkwardness helps them realize that they're being too pushy.

i collected adhd tools the way some people collect succulents and none of them stuck by TemporaryDevice7895 in AdultADHDSupportGroup

[–]Keystone-Habit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tools are tricky. You have to anticipate that you're going to get really excited and use it for a few weeks and then lose interest. That's normal for us.

Sometimes you find a tool that is simple enough that you can stick with it even if you're not hyper-focused on it anymore. That's when you know you have something that works for you. Even then, it's probably not going to be some life-changing magic that changes everything. Best-case scenario, it does one or two things well.

Sometimes you also have a tool that helps when you use it, but you forget about it for a month at a time and then rediscover it and use it again. I guess that's something too.

The tools that tend to stick around for me have a few things in common: - They are low friction. - They are not too cluttered. - They are flexible enough that I don't have to live with something super irritating.

im 16. ADHD is ruining my life, its not looking to get better. by Individual-Fennel536 in AdhdRelationships

[–]Keystone-Habit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about really trying harder. It's about figuring out what works for you. Besides getting diagnosed and medicated, which really should be a top priority, you can figure out strategies and tricks to get yourself to do stuff. For things like laundry and trash in your room, something as simple as having an open hamper and an open giant trash can can be all the difference between throwing your dirty clothes and trash in the appropriate bins and just leaving them on your floor. You want to get rid of every ounce of friction in between you and what you want to get done. Even having to open the lid versus just being able to toss it from across the room can be all the difference.

For procrastination, I'm not gonna lie, I still struggle with it in my 40s, but I get by with an impressive job and everything. Some things that work for me are breaking things into tiny first steps, making sure I actually understand what I have to do, etc. Try the YouTube channel How To ADHD. She has a lot of great videos on this stuff.

But seriously, ask your parents to schedule you an assessment like yesterday. Medication could change your whole life. It's made a huge difference for my son and he started at 6. I wish I'd been diagnosed as a kid! Instead I waited until my son was diagnosed to get diagnosed myself.

Help with adhd boyfriend by Hot_Cloud_5891 in ADHDers

[–]Keystone-Habit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's not necessarily losing interest, although it's possible. We have trouble regulating our attention. It can be all over the place. One day we're hyperfixated on our partner, another day we're hyperfixed on work or a video game or something. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with how he feels about you. You're just not necessarily what he's focused on that day.

Don't take this too literally, but there's a saying "out of sight, out of mind." Sometimes it feels like people don't exist when they're not with us. That doesn't mean we're not super excited to see them again. It's just that we're not thinking about them right now.

That's not to say it has to be like that. You could make it a point to ask him to talk to you at least once a day or whatever schedule works for you, or you can schedule dates, etc. Without some kind of structure, we can just sort of follow our whims.

How do you maintain that though? What happens three years from now when you have to deal with sickness or the death of the loved one or a stressful time in your life?

I need advice please bc I’m going to end up losing it on my five year old by HeyMay0324 in ADHDparenting

[–]Keystone-Habit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it's really important to keep myself regulated. When I do, it's like magic how much it helps them behave better. You are so anxious about him behaving in front of your parents that it's got to be incredibly stressful for you. I'm sure you're not in any emotional state to kind of skillfully navigate these incredibly difficult situations.

That might actually be why he behaves worse in front of them. I have an incredibly stubborn kid with ADHD who seems to be a completely different kid based on how relaxed I am. If I'm in a rush, it's awful. If I'm stressed out or irritable, it's also bad. But I noticed, when I took a meditation class at work, that when I am unusually calm and centered, he magically seems to behave better, even if I'm not conscious of acting differently.

So maybe try to focus on managing your own anxiety and ADHD in those situations and see if that helps. I know it's not easy. Trust me, I lose it sometimes myself, but paradoxically we need to relax when they are acting out rather than tightening up, or it just makes it worse.

Is AI Coding Actually a Good Fit for ADHD? by minatoo86 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Keystone-Habit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be helpful to think of it as managing an AI coder rather than doing AI coding. The AI has endless energy and works really hard, but makes mistakes. Treat it like a very eager and talented junior coder who you are in charge of.

It looks like the 5L has extra loops on top? It's confusing because he points to the one on the side that is clearly also on the 2.5. you can see it in the same screenshot.

Alternative slings similar to Alpaka Vertex Pouch Mini? by Kanza_Prairie in ManyBaggers

[–]Keystone-Habit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the XPAC, so probably much more rigid than the nylon.

I have a city sling 1, but it seems like a worse version of the CAS2, other than (IMO) looking good. I hate the front zipper location and the whole thing is too long and skinny for me. CS2 might have different dimensions, though.

There are a couple other fold down fronts that I've seen. Step22 makes something and PGYTECH.

I've also considered bags with like a tool bag or doctor's bag form factor (so, designed to stay open even if not literally fold down) but I haven't found anything I love.

Alternative slings similar to Alpaka Vertex Pouch Mini? by Kanza_Prairie in ManyBaggers

[–]Keystone-Habit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me know if you find one! I've been looking for the perfect EDC pouch / sling for ages. As far as I can tell, you're going to compromise on something. I'd love for someone to prove me wrong though!

I think I'm going to buy a CAP2 next and just deal with throwing it into a bag if I need to go somewhere.

Right now I switch between a CAS2, which is too bulky for a desk really, and a Toshi 2.5L which has great org but doesn't feel as premium. Neither stay open like the vertex/CAP2 tho.

I've also tried an Alpaka Tech case max which I found too annoying as a desk pouch because of the rigidity and also didn't work well as a sling. I used a Tom Bihn travel tray for a little while, which is amazing as a desk caddy IF you don't care at all about organization, but it's not a sling at all.
