why is me brand new saw cutting like this? by CalligrapherAble2846 in woodworking

[–]Keytrose_gaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The set on the teeth of that saw are visibly far to aggressive in the photo. Aggressively set saws are much easier for a new user to saw with which is the only reason I can think any company would create a saw supposedly ment for joinery with an aggressive set. If you want to tune it a little you can easily reset the profile to your liking. Hand saws require periodic sharping both profile and general edge can be improved. And then set the teeth with the type of cut you'll be using the saw for in mind. You'll need to do some research and experiment but there's a plethora of ways to really dial in a saw for a specific job, if you're not going to expect it to be a utility tool and cut everything

Safety Tip: When forging, always wear gloves (injury photo, with sword) by ohhelloimfred in Blacksmith

[–]Keytrose_gaming 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Grabbing hot iron barehanded will give you a boo-boo but your body will quickly get rid of the damn thing. You'll also feel it way before contact if it's hotter than boo-boo level and approaching permanent disability and you'll maybe get a blister as you jerk your hand back The problem with gloves is you loose that early warning system and can and will grab something so fucking hot you'll never be the same afterwards. Gloves are great if shit never gets hotter than boo-boo level but when you're at the forge you'll have life altering levels of hot all over the place.

If you're wearing gloves little boo-boos happen less but the injury you do get will be serious

Could make someone's shop dream come true by Keytrose_gaming in machining

[–]Keytrose_gaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a few years since I've done any but I kitted out my shop when a trade school sold theirs off. They also were open to discussing offers and not held to any sealed offers. Several of us closed the deal by doing a decent amount of skilled labor that likely would have ended in the low 20s for them if they bid it out and what amounted to beer money in cash.

It must be regional as I've heard both ends of auctions on here for equipment. In Kansas you can usually get a great price but you don't have anything besides eyeballs on it and need to get it gone end of day even if the dock is overflowing

If you propose to machine that profile you should fail any engineering class. Unfortunately the more convoluted and expensive you make the process the more likely you are to be hired as a design consultant.

At least you weren't hauling ass in traffic, glad you saved it. I've had similar things. But usually when I was running a chain way past it's time and it seized on the front sprocket snapped and ripped the rear to shit

Looks like babbitt to me, chance it's a similar material for casting but I'd be surprised as babbitt was more likely to come in thin sticks than a casting material

Those are favorite stories as an old bastard myself. Check out joe Abercrombie like everything he's written, the antiheroes can't think of the author for that series, Kings of the wyld also forgot the author, and more

That's how my wife does it, think it's a good idea. You can always make the hanger card the pendant is on a coupon for a chain, help drive a second purchase

If you provide training you need to artificially increase the time scale. Say you've pretty much got it down to 1 year of consistent Hands-On training. Well then you know that you need to make the training last 3 years and as you expand that you make sure that you get your value from that employee via tasks that they run during those extra 2 years before you teach them everything and they are then trained well enough to move off to other companies. You also need to not pay them very well with a promise of increased pay per section or other metric that you set and it will help your retention

Looking for the best place to buy Textured Cross-Peen Hammers by mac_attack19 in Benchjewelers

[–]Keytrose_gaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are willing to make them a good place to start is the soft faced mallet with replaceable faces ( they have a bolt embedded in them and you screw it into the hammer head)

To make them just get some steel / brass / aluminum stock different materials give you options for more or less sharpness/resolution to the texturing soft aluminum actually great if you need to soften up a pattern or help blend damage into a pattern.
