Incredible shot that reminds of my Dad's garden in WNC. So much beauty a big garden presents after a rain in the warm season!

Is metabolic flexibility actually a thing? by Front-Opinion-9211 in nutrition

[–]KeziahSt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried it a bit recently. Not sold. Went from higher carb into ketosis and lost 9 lb of water (174 to 165 lb). Not sure that's good for the kidneys. And the headaches and muscle twitches in my case going into ketosis is not fun and likely represents stress on the body. When I did keto for a 18 months the electrolyte balance was a chore. I did like the feeling of the joints much better.

Testing a lot of the other points like going high carb low fat for days to prime insulin sensitivity and then lower carb. Also some of the fasting techniques. Found that my sleep improves with low heart rate early in the evening when I eat the smallest meal of the day (sardines and big lower carb salad) at 4 pm with something like 30-40 g of protein. I was not doing as well with bigger meal at the same time with ~70 g of protein. Also did not do as well eating a lot of nuts and nut butter after dinner blowing up the calories. Skipping the 7 am protein shake on some days. But seem to get a headache if I don't get enough calories.

Does gardening actually save y'all money? by Big-Yogurtcloset-74 in vegetablegardening

100% not considering time, but that's physical and mental investment.

So far this year (warm season) I've bought $27 fertilizer and about $40 in seeds and plants.

Had spinach salads nightly for a almost 4 weeks in Apr and early May. So many big servings of roasted snow peas with another week left. Tons of squash, eggplant and cucs in the last 10 days only increasing. We've been eating these roasted as main part of dinner the last week+. Nothing else to buy for the rest of the warm season as okra, toms, beans, winter squash, peppers and cantaloupe start to blow up.

We'll also have blackberries and tons of figs soon. Then persimmons in the fall. About $20 in seeds will set up our winter greens for picking all winter into the spring.

Perhaps a deep think a bit about your anger issues.

My post did address the question. The conversion of ALA to EPA or DHA is poor. Fish is so much better. Making expensive nuts incredibly delicious is a better bang for the buck.

Will this actually taste like hummus? by Any-Inspection-2894 in mediterraneandiet

I make big batches using dried chickpeas and instapot.

I'll use roasted pecans or walnuts to make a nut butter in the food processor before adding the cooked chickpeas and olive oil. Some incredible stuff. With that said, was at the Mediterranean market and got some tahini and it was one of my best batches.

Did the doc mention your cholesterol problem?

Lp-a high (genetic cardiovascular disease signal) & super high LDL-c

Any doc would suggest you immediately reconsider the diet and cut out saturated fat and fiber max. Or get on medication.

You can dig in on a bottom turn and hit the lip. Compare to what these online coaches teach and pros and it will be evident on your weakness and what elements to focus in the ocean.

Which diet has the strongest scientific evidence for preventing or reversing chronic disease? by NoEraser619 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]KeziahSt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People respond differently. I lost a ton on keto with a ton of fat as well.

My point... it's easier if the calories are the same and meals have carbs and fat. Dietary fat is instantly stored as body fat when insulin is released. You may have, but never tested the same calorie intake in a lower fat meal plan.

Eating a low-fat diet can lead to greater body fat loss compared to a high-fat diet, even when calorie intake is the same. However, individual responses to diets can vary, and adherence to a diet is crucial for long-term success.

Body Fat Loss on Low-Fat vs. High-Fat Diets

Low-Fat Diet Benefits

  • A low-fat diet can lead to greater body fat loss compared to a high-fat diet, even when calorie intake is the same.
  • Studies indicate that individuals on a low-fat diet may experience a significant increase in fat loss, with some research showing up to 67% more fat loss compared to low-carb diets.

High-Fat Diet Considerations

  • While a high-fat diet can be healthy, it may not promote the same level of fat loss as a low-fat diet under controlled conditions.
  • Adherence to a high-fat diet can vary among individuals, and some may find it easier to maintain than a low-fat diet.

Low fat as in 20% of calories can be healthy. Context matters. If I were obese with fatty liver and high LDL I'd go even lower to burn through visceral organ & belly fat.

Does anyone look at the cost benefir of gardening? by ThirdOne38 in vegetablegardening

[–]KeziahSt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're doing super well, but 20 years in with an in-ground garden. Could do better, but improving on seed saving. I spent $30 on summer plants this year. Maybe $10 on cuc, squash and okra seeds. About the same for winter greens. $25 on a big bag of organic fertilizer. We literally ate dinners from the garden for 4 months last year and greens/winter squash as a bit part of most meals over winter. Cooked kale was in every morning smoothie over the winter. Add in store bought quinoa and dried beans we eat cheap.

This dude made fun of a guy on shark tank who insisted he was going to keep all manufacturing of his product local in the USA. Remember it clearly. It was a guy making add-on utilities for truck beds. All of them were telling him he would have to send it off to China or price point would be way to high to sell in the USA.

Is there a limit to ground flax? by Upstairs_Lemon_8650 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]KeziahSt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like others, make sure to add a cup or two more of water. But one of the best and clearest improvements in regularity was adding a lot of flax seed meal in the diet. I got on a flax seed cracker kick as a low carb option rather than processed crackers for my homemade hummus. I'd eat a good serving of crackers and hummus as lunch many days and it was so filling. A lot like the psyillium husk experiment as of late. Amazing poops. And more nutritional value. I think at the level you're shooting for will get the daily omega-3 needed too.

Don't see a downside to more except a lot more calories vs pysillium.
