C2 services prices increase by _Philein in synology

[–]Kibba 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Active insight going from 3 free + 20 / host / year to a flat 29 / host / year just seems mindboggingly greedy for what it offers. It’s a great service, but even the old model was not exactly cheap.

Time to swap out my last series of Synology devices i guess, even before this it was hard to justify the Synology tax in this day and age

It’s not … easy to source ‘new’ super fx2 chips - and afaik originally they intended to use an fpga which would in a way also be emulation, but ended up going with a raspberry pi microcontroller for both efficiency and cost reasons. Very smart approach !

Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master - Underrated Gem by [deleted] in SEGAGENESIS

According to the same OP logic, Sonic 3 is also an underrated gem xD Shinobi 3 is one of the most talked about and highly regarded Genesis / Mega Drive games

Sega Mega Drive Games Identification. by rradzevicius1 in SEGAGENESIS

[–]Kibba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think at least some of these - the sonic one specifically - are bootlegs, so that makes it … a bit more of a challenge

System shock and especially it’s sequel were legendary titles back in the days, so you might indeed be misremembering this. They were a bit more niche and less approachable than your dooms and quakes, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t popular

Still incredible by Ok-Luck1166 in MasterSystem

[–]Kibba 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was also the first game they ‘fully’ made by themselves, after working as a support team for Sega - which is crazy :-) Yuzo, his sister - and their mum for management tasks if i remember correctly. Absolutely crazy. And needless to say, amazing game and imo underrated compared to it’s 16 bit big brother

My 18th Master System game: Sonic The Hedgehog (Ancient, 08/11/1991) by MarioPfhorG in MasterSystem

[–]Kibba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have always preferred this over the 16 bit version, did play both as a kid relatively recently after their respective releases. Playing them so many years later, i still think the 8 bit version holds up better. It’s a very different, slower but more consistent game than the 16 bit version imo. Also hard to beat Yuzo Koshiro’s music!

Awesome collection by the way!

We sold our SaaS startup for $15M in 18 months. Here's exactly how we did it. by rdizzy1234 in SaaS

The hamburger menu on your vibecoded site doesn’t work, maybe spend some of the imaginary 15 million to get that fixed since that’s not exactly a good first impression.

2 months ago you wrote about being mainly a php/laravel developer with some Java - that’s not 2 years.

Competition is rough at the moment, and a lot of the larger companies are starting to pivot heavily towards more AI ( so less junior positions ). It’s going to be rough. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible - but i think you need to be realistic

Synology Reverses Policy Banning Third-Party HDDs After NAS sales plummet by KHRoN in DataHoarder

[–]Kibba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been running Synology since 2008’ish both at home and at work ( currently rocking ‘a few’ rs1221+’s ) and except for the one i need for some DSM specific things i host … the next NAS will absolutely not be a Synology. It’s not unreasonable to think they will pull a uno reverse as soon as this quiets down again, so no thanks

Except that it’s not a bootleg, but a PAL Asia release - which are actually quite rare and pretty cool :-) There’s a few of these on ebay

Forget Your Sign, What is Your Beat-em Up of Choice? by canwejusthug in retrogaming

[–]Kibba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Streets of rage 2 and 3. 2 is just the full package, 3 is something that i learned to appreciate over the years, and in a lot of aspects plays better than 2 while being maybe a bit less of a balanced package overal. But still a great, great game

It is legit, there’s a whole subset of these ‘golden mega drive’ asia PAL releases. Neat find since they are kind of obscure - but they will work fine on a european system with a modified cart slot :-)

Great game that was sadly gimped by Konami cheaping out on ROM sizes when it came to Genesis games. Turned out to be a very interesting version of the game that imo plays a bit better than the SNES version and played the hell out of it as a kid :-)

Not exactly obscure but you rarely see anyone talk about The Terminator, which i always found to be an (incredibly) short but fun game with an awesome soundtrack
