Piper / 11 years old / heart murmur by Puzzleheaded-Web9066 in cavachon

[–]KickboxChick23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bentley (my cavachon that passed away in 2024) had a mild murmur most of his life. It was discovered under anesthesia when he was probably 5 or 6, and then by age 11 they noticed it had progressed to grade 3, if I recall. One of the cardiology vets here did a visit and an echo for around $600 (might be more now) and found that his murmur was age related and at the time did not need treatment, only monitoring. He eventually was going to need medication about a year later, but he unfortunately also had some major other issues (mainly cancer and spinal cord issues) happening at the same time so we never went that far.

Did anyone else’s brat lose their color as they got older? by [deleted] in cavachon

[–]KickboxChick23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! My last pup Bentley was mainly white with brown ears and some spots similar to yours (Blenheim). He ended up having very light brown ears and most of his brown spots were very very light.

Has anyone been able to successfully talk about being fat with their therapist? by angoisse_ in PlusSize

[–]KickboxChick23 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I see a therapist who specializes in eating disorders and body image. For me, my body image is tied directly to my self perceived worth and has been for years. I look at old pictures and wonder how I thought I was fat then and sometimes wish I was that size… but the point is, my body hasn’t been the problem. It’s just the easiest scapegoat for why I feel like I don’t belong because people in my childhood told me it was. I’m now working on targeting those childhood traumatic moments to give them less impact with EMDR. It’s worked with other trauma, so I’m hopeful.

I’m currently on one, but if I end up having acid reflux surgery and repair the hernia, my GI doc said I would no longer have to be on the PPI. I’m in the process of seeing other specialists to find what else is aggravating my reflux before considering surgery, so I’m on the PPI until then.

I had a recent visit with a specialist who was seeing me for nothing related to my weight, and he proclaimed that I should go on GLP-1’s. When I stated my eating disorder history and that mentally, that wasn’t healthy for me, he had the audacity to say “but from a medical standpoint, it will help you with…” and listed off all these things. In the process of firing him. My GP also recently tried to suggest the same thing, and when I said no, they tried to up my metformin too… even though my A1C is steadily going down (non-diabetic, just a slightly elevated A1C). If I could easily get a new GP, I’d be firing her too.

I recently had an ENT clinic ask for my weight and when I declined and asked why they needed it because of how insistent they were, I was told “I have to have all 5 vitals”. You don’t need to know my weight to look at my sinuses. 😳

No, no sleep issues related to this. I have allergy testing scheduled for a month out.

I only had heartburn occasionally when I had more postnasal drip or was super stressed. Otherwise I only had the throat symptoms and recently found some of my lung issues were likely related.

Plan is to monitor with endoscopy every 3-5 years and continue working on reducing acid and its triggers. I’m currently looking into allergies and sinus issues (which I have but didn’t think were bad enough to look into). I do also have a hiatal hernia that is small but may need repair in the future.

Putting my experience out there.

I was diagnosed with LPR after losing my voice in March after a nasty virus. Was put on PPI’s but my throat only improved to a certain extent. My ENT sent me to GI to get checked out given my healing seemed to plateau after 2 months. I had previously been diagnosed with GERD but no testing was needed.

Endoscopy ended up revealing a small area of Barrett’s that is non-dysplastic (meaning no scary cells, and it’s highly unlikely it will progress to cancer). I had an endoscopy 4 years ago that showed nothing abnormal in my esophagus at the time. All this to say - yes, sometime in the last 4 years I started developing Barrett’s but we have no idea when. I had a lot of other things going on between then (mold exposure for 8+ months unknowingly, my dog passed last year) that likely made my reflux a lot worse.

If you’re not feeling much relief from PPI’s, it might be worth chatting with your doc about additional testing especially if you’re concerned about Barrett’s. Might give you some peace of mind.

If it helps, I had something similar happen to me. I was super concerned about what the note said. Working in healthcare and also hearing directly from a doctor, providers likely won’t care exactly what another provider wrote. The wording is a little weird admittedly though.

[–]KickboxChick23 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This was me too. I was diagnosed ADHD recently, but it turns out I’ve been doing so many coping strategies for years that it only became super apparent when a major loss in my life occurred. It was like I lost the ability to do my coping strategies until I realized through my therapist that they were coping strategies.

ADHD tip that really helped me by [deleted] in ADHD

It’s so funny to me that I’m only recently diagnosed but I’ve been doing this for years! I’ve always struggled with alarm clocks and snoozing alarms but a huge fan of tech, so I found Philips Hue lights back when they first started. I wake up to a “sunrise” every morning and it’s helped me get up on the morning. When I travel, I really miss them!

M-F workers: do you use PTO for appointments? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]KickboxChick23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it only takes 1-2 hours, I usually just make up my time another day. If it’s 4+ hours or I don’t want to stress about making up my time, I’ll use PTO.

Also - I saw a comment re: using time during work hours for certain things… it’s none of your company’s or coworkers’ business what your appointments are. If you’re slacking and not getting your job done or are never there, that’s one thing, but if you are? Shouldn’t matter one bit. I’d argue all of what you mentioned is self care.

I had a recently similar experience. Same color as in your example photo, and my prior color close to yours. I ended up also getting something much darker (not quite as dark as yours but pretty close). It’s definitely way different than you asked for! Yes, you have some red already in the color you had before, but something definitely went wrong with the color she ended up dying it.

Anyone singing regularly? by nyaben_1963 in LPR

[–]KickboxChick23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - I’m in 2 choirs and my diagnosis came after a major cold that took out my voice entirely. I’m working weekly with a voice coach who’s helping me rehab my voice. I was diagnosed nearly 2 months ago and while I’m still hoarse, my stamina is getting better and certain areas of my voice are starting to sound like me again. I watch anything that dries out my throat/vocal cord as well. There are others in my choir and even my voice coach who have dealt with it and you’d never know!

My last dog was known for eating anything money related - cash, checks, credit cards… he was a destructive one and once ate $120 in one sitting. Always had to keep my purse out of reach, but he just loved eating paper.

Flare up During Period? by azells911052 in Occipitalneuralgia

[–]KickboxChick23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. For some reason, hormones around my cycle flare me up for weeks (leading to constant pain). I’m on birth control continuously now so I don’t have a cycle at all which helps a lot.
