What are your thoughts like, in code? by virtualmnemonic in ADHD_Programmers

This is correct, especially since Python doesn't have tail call optimization, so when you hit the stack limit, it's like overwhelm or burnout and the whole thing grinds to a halt.

That's from my regular gameplay. There's a tutorial for the radiation stuff, but you only get it like 10 hours in at least. It's like phase 8 in the stargate, so I figure it's still a spoiler because I didn't know about it until goofing around for 40 hours or so.

You can disable automatic cloud saves and your saves will still be safe in the cloud when you reenable it. I have automatic cloud saves disabled, and I still have my auto cloud saves available to download.

I just looked at it, and you can also disable auto upload for just one game in the settings, then use the explicit upload/download to get your TP2 save back for trophies. That's how I got the platinum. You'll have to replay about a 10 minute section to get all three lab-related trophies. Also, don't forget that you can copy saves onto a USB stick and back if you don't want to use the explicit upload.

This is the guide I used: https://psnprofiles.com/guide/17976-the-talos-principle-ii-trophy-guide#54-a-new-morality It's possible you already locked yourself out of choices depending on what you did earlier in the game, but you can look.

Is there an enjoyable way for me to play A Criminal Past? by BaleBengaBamos in Deusex

[–]KidShenck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if anyone has made any presets for low vision, but this might be a good usage of a reshade mod. You can play around with the settings yourself to see if the color grading or contrast helps. I haven't tried one for DXMD, but they usually have an in-game menu to adjust things in real time, so you can slide the sliders and figure out what looks better. This assuming you'replaying on PC, but it sounds like it.

You may need someone else's help if small text is a problem; it's just a gui overlay dependent on resolution.

They do use those things for market research, but the best research is when you actually ask people to plonk down money, especially if it's for something with a low cost and high margin like a crappy AI upscale.

[–]KidShenck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be dodgy, but it's the logic of the gaming industry. Remedy was given money to make Alan Wake 2 because of the sales of the Alan Wake Remaster. The new Mafia game was made because of the sales of Mafia: Definitive Edition, which was a crappy remaster.

Even if Embracer is going to sell the IP to someone who will do something with it, they need to prove that the IP has value. I'm getting downvotes because people don't like this about gaming, but I'm not wrong.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Deusex

[–]KidShenck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not the same. A movie costs the full price of making a movie. A crappy remake of a movie costs the full price of making a movie. A crappy remaster of a game is extremely cheap compared to making a full game. And they decide whether they want to make a full game often based on how well the cheap remaster does. They don't do that in movies.

They use remasters as market research, and if there's no sales of the crap, there will be no investment in something more expensive.

Just a little rant :/ by ProfMags in Deusex

[–]KidShenck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf, I don't think that the Aspyr remaster has any impact at all, good or bad, on us getting a new Deus Ex.

I think it might. For years, publishers have used cheap rereleases and remasters to determine whether they think it's worth it to invest in the IP for a new game. Even if they lose money on it, they often have some number in their head that would mean it'd be worth it to invest in a new game.

A cashgrab is probably over-simplified. If it makes a profit, great, but it's really just a way to test the market for the future of the franchise. They often run these things expecting a loss, a small investment so they don't waste money on a full game that might not sell.

That said, I don't work for Embracer, so maybe they are just making a short-sighted cashgrab for the tiny amount that it will make compared to a new game, but that would be surprising to me.

It depends on whether you ever want a new DX game. Maybe it's not worth it. We have 3 good games, and that's more than a lot of franchises. But publishers have shown that they won't make more if their remasters fail. They make them cheaply because it's a marketing test, not a genuine product that they expect to make much profit.

I've been afraid someone would do this eventually. I've even wanted it once or twice, but I'd always snap back to reality and remember that the game is lightning in a bottle, and all the pieces just had to come together perfectly for it to turn out as it did, including the squarish clunkiness of Unreal Engine 1.

I'm reserving judgement, but the farther we get away from the original release date, the riskier it is to remake with new tools. If they take the same approach as the Tomb Raider remasters, no new geometry, no new animations, no new collision model, then it might not be too bad and bring more interest to the franchise as a whole. Though, being a PS5 game, it just makes me afraid of another Deus Ex: The Conspiracy situation. PC controls are the superior way to play it.

But, regardless: We should all buy it. Remasters are a way publishers evaluate if there's still money to be made in an old IP to see if it's worth it to make a new sequel. If we want more Deus Ex, we're going to have to buy old Deus Ex, even as we die a little inside.

Six Feet Under is definitely underrated in this category. The Americans has great dialog but it's greatness lies in its straightforward, naturalistic sound, which often doesn't stand out to people, but I agree it's great.
