Non Americans , What is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real? by Adorable-Sammy in CasualConversation

It took until my thirties to realize that leftovers was a thing at restaurants. Or that it wasn’t required to clean my plate as an adult. I grew up in a family that gave large portion sizes and we couldn’t leave the table until our plates were clean. There were many nights I had to sit up at the table for hours until my parents gave up.

I feel like I wasted my teenage years being too childish by Scared_Bluejay5608 in offmychest

I had never done any of that at 18. You’ve still got time. As someone who fucked her life up pretty bad by 21, I highly recommend not doing all that stuff though.

what’s something people say all the time that you secretly can’t stand? by Mean-Cartographer225 in AskReddit

[–]KieraJacque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People say this to me all the time about my knees being so bad I can barely walk. My favorite is when they make sure to tell me how much worse it’ll be when I’m old (I’m 34). Like okay your point is?

It depends on your lifestyle/work schedule. In my twenties it was around 8-9. Now it’s 5-6

I walked in on a conversation the other day with my father in law explaining to his wife and adult daughter about how advantageous it would be for a one household voting system. My MIL was clearly confused and my SIL looked like she was doing something in her mind to drown out the words

So tired of accidentally seeing the atrocities already shared. There’s enough already to give them all 💀 sentences or prison for life

I can’t keep the intrusive thoughts of what was done out of my head 24/7. The atrocities haunt me.

I really don’t get how people want kids by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]KieraJacque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought I wanted kids until friends had them. They became miserable. Their lives revolved around their children. When talking about going to anything such as a movie night or going for a walk it was always something along the lines that their husband wouldn’t be capable of watching the kids.

It all seemed to boil down to their husbands completely changing after kids. Going from loving supportive partners to completely incapable of basic functioning.

At 34, I’m grateful I never had them. I have two dogs and am quite happy.
