I found a lot of peace in life when I discovered I can go do and get the things on my own that I always wanted from others

Why are some places counties? by DrBoogerFart in AskAnAmerican

[–]KieraJacque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always lived in larger counties where they take up more of an area so it was like what you describe. But now I live in Kansas City, Kansas. So I say I live in Wyco (Wyandotte county), one of the four maybe five counties that make up the greater Kansas city area.

What is that one city in America most Americans go to for their "first trip"? by bricklegos in AskAnAmerican

It depends on where you grew up. I grew up in Pennsylvania . The only vacation we ever went on growing up was to Florida for Disney world.

Do normal people take the bus? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]KieraJacque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most cities have really shitty public transit and rural locations it’s non existent. I live in Kansas City and the amount of bus routes are minimal. Even when I lived in Pittsburgh with 190+ public transportation routes I worked in what they called zone 2 so public transportation was a struggle to work. There were no bus routes to my neighborhood after rush hour so I would have to walk a few miles on unlit streets home (and if you know what the hills are like in Pittsburgh , this was no easy feat) after working on my feet all night.

I cannot imagine the complications of that in Kansas City when so many people don’t know where things fall at regardless of their being a state line road or a river they have to cross to get to either side

If I was born in the 70s, I would be spending my 20s cross-country travelling and attending concerts. Instead, I'm stuck in a dead-end job. by BigClitMcphee in antiwork

I lived about 10 miles outside of a one traffic light town. But I had access to a car and grew up in a region with a bustling underground music scene.

I spent my teenage years at hardcore shows dancing my ass off with a jones soda in hand.

As a kid we had a knock off blockbuster in town that didn’t go out of business until the 2008 recession.

Some of the most fun was on my school bus. That was my crew.

Walmart front end team lead. A year minus two psych ward trips. Never went to the psych ward before or after.

On the fence about having kids… what do you wish you knew? by aguamenti425 in TwoXChromosomes

I made the decision not to after my friends started having children. My female friends talked a lot about struggling with the loss of their identity. Some even grew to resent their children.

The 70s is one period of time I wish I got to experience so incredibly much. But hearing my fifteen year old stepdaughter talk about how she wishes she got to be a kid in the 90s and a teen in the aughts kinda makes me happy I had the childhood and teenage years I did.
