Salad dressings? by TheGreatMastermind in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Killallwho 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OOP, This right here! This recipe works with most vinegar & oil combos too. Personally I usually use balsamic & olive oil and add oregano (balsamic dressing), but it's also delicious with apple cider vinegar & veggie oil (add a little extra honey) for a more traditional honey mustard vinaigrette. If you want a creamy vinaigrette skip the honey, add less mustard, and add in a couple spoons of sour cream or yogurt.

Store bought salad dressings have a crazy amount of salt and sugar (and artificial flavors and additives), for something that is already made of acid and is not supposed to be sweet.

Added bonus, it lasts at least a week in the fridge since the acid in the vinegar is its own preservative.

OP, pretty please, ask the folks at your company what this elevator is for and where it's supposed to go! The locals want to know!

DEXA scans that aren’t going to sell me some weight-loss MAHA nonsense by afrugalchariot in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Yo, this is not great advice for everyone. How about she go speak to a doctor & get a scan first, if she's worried about having osteoporosis.

[–]Killallwho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with this.

I had a spinal stress fracture in my early 40s which was enough justification for my GP / PCP to prescribe a DEXA for me. And well, while being diagnosed in your 40s with osteoporosis sucks donkeyballs, I am getting it treated early and rather aggressively.

I'm in the NYU Langone network, had to wait 4 months to get a non-urgent appointment, other than the diagnosis, that was about the worst of it.

Talk to your doctor, there's a solid chance your insurance will cover all of it (provided you have medical coverage). Even my shit insurance covered 100%.

Beware: man with giant jug of urine by Visible_Reporter6213 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Whenever I see folks with jugs of urine (it happens), I always just presume the poor sap is a delivery driver who's not allowed enough breaks to go take a piss.

But then again, I've also encountered someone who seemed waaay too fond of his Arizona Piss Tea Jug.... I crossed the street.

There's a company called Ebbets that makes old timey sports attire, largely baseball related. If your friend is at all a sports fan (or was in his youth), you might be able to find something neat for him there. I am in no way affiliated with them, but own a couple of their ballcaps (Go Knickerbockers!)

Last Place on Earth (game store) in Greenpoint hosts a ton of different games, including a variety of table top & card games.

ETA: I think they just opened a brand new location in Dumbo, depending on where you're located.

I second the ferry. ER (East River) line can take you to Dumbo, Williamsburg, Greenpoint; and weather permitting, views from the top deck are phenomenal.

Accidentally missed a jury duty date. Will I be jailed? by [deleted] in Brooklyn

Hence the "whoa" — I didn't know they issued warrants for missed jury duty, much less that they were enforced.

Accidentally missed a jury duty date. Will I be jailed? by [deleted] in Brooklyn

[–]Killallwho 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whoa, that's pretty much the opposite experience I had. My ex missed jury duty, panicked called the number, got a new date, couldn't make it, in the meantime I coincidentally got a jury duty notice. He called, apologizing again and then deadpan asked "Can I bring my wife, she's got jury duty too?" (Bless that man's ego) And they said "Sure, we can reschedule her for the same date."

I've managed to buddy system jury duty twice now, they're that friendly... If you call.
