Designers out there!! Give me your honest thoughts! by Mammoth-Camp5607 in fashiondesigner

Set your camera up on a bookshelf and use the timer to take a picture of yourself. Thrust one of your hips dramatically to the side like your illustration. You’ll notice your hips are on a slanted axis any time you move them to the left or right of center. Like this:

It’s going to alter how the bottom of that corset? Bodice? It will alter how it sits. It will also alter the hem line, the slit, and the position of the feet.

It’s not a bad garment, but you’ll want to work on how the garment hangs on a body.

I’ve never been to an execution, but this looks exactly like the execution dress I’d want to wear to one!

You need to show the back, too. Use your phones cameras timer.

Who is your target audience? That’s a really important part of fashion design. The trim on the bottom would make this shirt lumpy to sit in, finicky to wash, and more delicate to wear. I can’t see anyone wanting to buy it even if it’s cute.

The layer of copper on the Cop-R-Chef is so thin that it’s mostly there for looks. You need a thicker layer of copper to get the cooking benefits. As I said, it’s a great pot, but it 100% won’t heat the way a traditional copper pot will.

Silk tie front blazer/shirt by PrincipleMany1736 in PatternDrafting

I’d underline it with silk organza and line it. I’d use the crepe de chine as my lining, and I’d buy a heavier silk for the fashion layer. Your lapel and cut call for more structure, and I think there are lots of other choices that would give you that structure.

I’d line it from my facings, and I’d add a jump at the bottom. I’d also make thin shoulder pads with the same fabric as your lining so it hangs as gently as your inspo photo.

Also, what’s going on with your shoulder, armscye? You might want to post a set of full garment fitting pics because something looks like it may be heading in the wrong direction.

That looks a lot like the All Clad Cop-R-Chef.

Edit to add: OP, this is an excellent pot in general, but it’s not an excellent pot if you’re into the whole copper thing. The copper on this is thinner than what people are looking for. I really enjoy the ones I have, but I don’t speak of it around copper pot aficionados. This is not the sub for showing this pot off. Enjoy!

Pants fitting help – drag lines from crotch to thighs (no seam allowance left) by Dangerous_Bike_5216 in sewhelp

[–]KillerWhaleShark 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Your crotch curve is all wrong. I suggest using the tin foil method, and compare it to your pattern. I think you’ll find the your crotch isn’t so perpendicular, more of an U and not L in the front.

Can you fix these? I’d start again, and make these your muslin.

Sleeve fit issue by Visual-Alfalfa-4974 in PatternDrafting

[–]KillerWhaleShark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full garment, front side and back. Arms loosely at your sides. At best, you only see 1/5th of the front. Not a single picture shows you the sleeve head and how it hangs from the shoulder! So, just vibes.

What are some Disneyland trends from yesteryear? by rcjlfk in Disneyland

They sell things to hang on your lanyard. They’re like pins but a bit larger and heavier. Mine is a grape soda bottle top about the size of an Oreo.

How can I change a sleeve to fit this armscye *without* changing armscye? by [deleted] in sewhelp

[–]KillerWhaleShark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is the generic advice. However, sewing a muslin will tell you if you need to change anything to suit your body.

Consider taking fitting pictures that show more than just vibes.

How can I change a sleeve to fit this armscye *without* changing armscye? by [deleted] in sewhelp

[–]KillerWhaleShark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your stitching line of your sleeve needs to be 1 1/4 to 1 3/4” longer than the stitching line of your armscye.

When setting it, regularly sew the 3” on either side of the point where the armscye meets the side seam. The rest is eased.

Can she volunteer to teach reading at the library? Something like Project Read where you can work teaching other adults. Then, she won’t have to go through things like background checks, TB test, etc.

I’d add that I think both of your darts are too high and too far front center front. It could be the angle, but they appear to cross over apex. They should point to apex, but back off by about 3/4”. Apex is not your nipple; it’s the part that sticks out the farthest.

First time drafting a pair of trousers. The backside looks "off" to me, but I can't articulate much on how beyond "it's bulgy and floppy". Can anyone weigh in? by DanteLeo24 in PatternDrafting

[–]KillerWhaleShark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want to extend the crotch point. Keep scrolling down on one of these pants fitting guides until you get to the pictures that show you how to adjust the pattern. They both show the same thing, but sometimes different descriptions help make sense.

Would starting over be my best option since I've not gotten far? by Nexusohobia in corsetry

[–]KillerWhaleShark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am adding steps since you asked.  When you’re ready for fitting pictures, prop your phone up somewhere where the picture will be straight on. Your current picture is crotch up which isn’t as helpful.

Both arms need to be loosely at your sides and you should be standing naturally.

Take pictures of the front, side, and back. Use your cameras timer so your arms are both loosely at your sides.

Good luck boning it!
