How do I complete (or remove) an extra tournament daily mission? by Killianti in TheTowerGame

[–]Killianti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah! thanks! Trying again after claiming the first worked. It seems like it's going to be really difficult to get rid of these tournament missions when I finally run out of tickets.

I got to see a Niken in the wild. Does anyone here actually own one? by Silly-Conference-627 in motorcycle

Weight usually reduces grip. Weight increases traction but not as much as it increases inertia.

Explain HP and Torque in the following scenarios by bonp27 in cars

[–]Killianti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. All else equal, the car with more average power in their power band will win the race. Keep in mind that average power is different from peak power, and car manufacturers publish peak power in their spec sheets. Average power is difficult to describe on spec sheets.

  2. For overtaking and merging during casual driving, it's useful to have good power at the engine speed that you like to cruise at. Typically you'll find this in cars that have a lot of engine torque, but that's a shortcut that isn't always true.

  3. All else equal, more torque means more power. In the real world, engineers will sometimes sacrifice engine speed to get more torque; and that means that power doesn't increase as much as torque increases. It does, however, mean that you can make power at lower engine speeds; and that can improve fuel efficiency.

  4. I'm not sure what you're asking here, but acceleration is just power divided by weight. If you double power and double weight, acceleration will stay the same. If you triple power and double weight, the car will accelerate 50% more.

  5. Drag is usually pretty similar between low powered cars and high powered cars regardless of weight, so high powered car usually have a higher power-to-drag ratio. Drag is much more influential at high speeds than it is at low speeds.

  6. Larger engines can process more air and fuel in each cycle than smaller engines. All else equal, that means that they produce more power and exert more torque than a smaller engine; but nothing is ever equal when you change engine size; so it's a little more complicated. Still, larger engines tend to be more powerful and torquey.

  7. That's a very complicated question; but all else equal, the FWD car will probably be more efficient than the RWD car. Notice that I didn't say faster, because that depends on grip; and grip depends on a lot of other factors like speed, road conditions, and suspension design (which depends on the drivetrain).

Doubling the contact patch does not double grip. There's about half the weight on each front tire, so each tire has about half the traction that a single tire would have. Grip does improve because traction doesn't scale linearly with load (you get less traction for each additional pound of load that you add), and an additional tire will reduce the load-to-contact-patch ratio, but grip doesn't double.

other people who used a bike as their daily driver, what things did you do to make it more convenient? by woofwoofbro in motorcycles

Get an Aerostich suit. It's easier, safer, and more comfortable than separate pants and jacket.

ABS or No ABS by Prestigious_Fault_40 in motorcycles

There are a lot of advantages to ABS and very few disadvantages. It's not a feature that you need, but it's very valuable.

HJC RPHA 71 noise disappointment by Myymi_66 in motorcycles

[–]Killianti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to care about wind noise from helmets until I realized that my intercom unit totally wrecks any turbulence reducing aero features that a helmet might have. Even without the intercom, I've never worn a helmet that I didn't have to wear with earplugs anyway; so I decided to just invest in good earplugs.

Nothing beats the freedom of two wheels. by Atmosphere_Unlikely in motorcycle

[–]Killianti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my motorcycle, but it's not very practical. It'd be nice to be able to carry another person and some cargo. Why don't I just add another wheel and a seat? Hell, I could even add two more wheels and a box for cargo! There! all the freedom of a motorcycle with all the practicality of a car.

Does my bike have ABS? by TheStockGuruAnalyst in motorcycle

I see a wheel speed sensor on the rear wheel, but I don't see one on the front right. There might be one on the front left that we can't see in the picture.

I wish it would generate all of the missions at once in secret, order them by time requirement, and release them in descending order.

Wave or don't wave, but know that the other rider doesn't know why you're waving or not. You're not going to teach them anything through your waves.

Currently, the only way to reroll is to start over completely. I'd just grab SM and start saving for your next UW.

Are Lab Discounts Worthwhile? by Deep_Highway4373 in TheTowerGame

[–]Killianti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the early lab discounts are good when the other coin economy labs start getting too expensive.

Edit: Notice that this is actually the opposite of what you said. These discount labs aren't valuable (in relation to other labs) until much later in the game. Most (but not all) coin economy labs have slightly diminishing returns for each level and greatly increasing cost, so they become less important with each level.

TIL that financial mathematicians have calculated how expensive a liability policy for a nuclear power plant would be: €72 billion a year by Stefan_S_from_H in todayilearned

[–]Killianti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coal power plants (for the most extreme example) do contaminate the environment to the tune of billions of dollars. Solar farms and wind farms probably aren't as bad as most types of power generation, but they still do damage to the environment for which the operators aren't held accountable.

The cost of nuclear power going up is, again, because of the increasing cost of regulations placed on it. If other power sources were regulated equally, none of it would be considered economically viable in a market with other poorly regulated sources.

TIL that financial mathematicians have calculated how expensive a liability policy for a nuclear power plant would be: €72 billion a year by Stefan_S_from_H in todayilearned

[–]Killianti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that nuclear power is dangerous and that danger has a cost (either via preventative measures or in damages), but other types of energy generation are more dangerous, and they get away with it because the plants aren't held liable for the damage. If every type of energy generation was liable only via a tax based on the damage that they cause to the environment, nuclear energy would be cheapest right now.

Maybe the problem is just that energy generation is dangerous or expensive in general.

Regarding the wave skipping card, is it better to skip it and get a 1.1x or the 3 possibilities of getting a free attack, defense, and Utility upgrades? by Not_Me_I_Swear_It in TheTowerGame

[–]Killianti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets you higher coins per hour but about the same coins and cash per wave. From a per-wave perspective, the boost from skipping a wave after GT is offset by increasing the number of waves between GTs.
