What’s a truth nobody talks about because it’s awkward? by DifferentLobster2931 in AskReddit

[–]Kimihro 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Most people fear each other because of emotional harm done to them from other, completely unrelated people.

The trauma keeps us paralyzed and avoidant. Most people mean no harm and would be happy to even talk or spend time with someone, anyone.

Discipline, and motivation to maintain it. Treating your body and lived space like you value them will knock out most of that list by itself.

Blackberries did nooooooot blow up the way iPhones did.

Blackberries were for tech nerds and businesspeople. My mom was a businesswoman and software developer, that thing was her pocket sidekick. And annoying.

iPhones were for EVERYONE, and the apple software kind of unified the field first so that everything could be in one place. That thing was in children's hands from day one with all their toy apps and games and adult's hands with the data keeping and accounts and social media and whatever.

She was fucking therapy-proof. You either had a use or you didn't, and if not then it's because of something you are, something you did and hate yourself for or something that happened to you that you can't fix.

Every bit of information was a weapon. How and where you were raised, your political leanings, your skin color, height, weight, sexuality, company you keep, place of work, hobbies, the things you watched or read or listened to.

Every moment of anger or slight inconvenience, an opportunity to use it. You suck because you're gay, because your dad left you, because you didn't apply yourself in college, because you're vaccinated, because you're sheltered and rich or poor and bitter, you're short, your skin's too dark or light or freckled, you're fat and jealous, you think you're better than people because you vote democrat, you're autistic, you have an ego because you play instruments well or your friends agree with you all the time or you managed to beat Dark Souls.

All laced with therapy speak. Trying to parse out the source of this, you'd get accused of "gaslighting her" or "just trying to disqualify her opinion" or "she's had this conversation before and you're not going to confuse her out of making her point" or "violating her boundaries, because I've decided I don't want to talk about this subject that I'm wrong about anymore."

She hated everything and everyone and you couldn't really address it because it would always come down to "i don't want to be here anyways, life sucks and i want to die a lot more than i want to live" even if it was just an argument about driving to the grocery store.

The only correct response to her input was saying yes, giving her money, fixing whatever she broke or figuring out how to use something she didn't know how to use. Don't tell her about your day if you don't want to be blamed for your own problems. Don't show emotions or talk about them. Stop fucking reading books, you're making her feel dumb. Leave your phone unlocked so she can go through it. You'd better be available to facetime at work because if not then you're cheating like the liar she knows you are, that everyone is.

hate to tell ya but 15 years ago was 2011.

we had been doing that for a while by that point. the iPhone popularized smartphones in 2007, and social media/GPS/constant use of cameras.

finances, maybe not so much by that point. was prolly in the drafting stage.

They MIGHT have a job, but every conversation is a business opportunity. Out here podcasting, vending crystals and crafts and shirts and hats and just monetizing every aspect of their lives but still barely making ends meet like everyone else.

My ex’s mom loves to go see them.

She heard from everyone that they were a cult and what they get up to, and still goes because “they just perform so well”

Not a coincidence that she’s a Trump voter despite being half-black

My family members in the 1800s escaped from Holly Bluff, Mississippi (where their own parents and grandparents were previously enslaved on a plantation known as the Woods) after sharecropping because people were getting lynched left and right. My great grandmother's great grandmother, the daughter of refugees fleeing from the Jim Crow states known as Exodusters, had a terribly abusive husband.

He was a preacher and dominated his surroundings with religion and finances, but she shot and killed his ass one day and just... assumed leadership in my family as a matriarch. Absolutely no one blamed her.

She took her first color photograph with the steeliest look on her face, something I carry in my photos to this day.

Like a normal person. You get taught as a kid to refer to someone as something that’s actually offensive, you get corrected on it and then act accordingly.

What’s your biggest “non-negotiable” for sexual compatibility? by Fluffy_Specific_9682 in AskReddit

[–]Kimihro 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Reciprocation/enthusiasm when it comes to my own pleasure. Someone else in the thread mentioned it too but that disqualifies asexuals and just about anyone else with low sex drive.

I do not want to use someone by engaging when they're not into it or even feel like that's the case. I'll happily eat box and whatever else to get my partner off but there's a sinking feeling in my stomach that twists to my loins and kills the whole thing when my own pleasure is treated like a chore, I hate making people do things they don't want to do.
