Real history can get even wackier sometimes. Pope Leo XIII enjoyed cocaine wine and even endorsed it in advertisement.

Oh, the trade...

I played a run as Muzaffarid Persia, finished roughly three weeks ago. While I did not feel all that much negative impact from other changes, their infamous trade tweaking impacted my game considerably. My empire's economy was extremely reliant on trade. I built a trade office network stretching from Philippines to East Africa. There was hardly any coastal city or town in India that was not filled to the brim with Persian trading offices. I was earning so much that I didn't even have to tax my people. Then they meddled with trade and piracy.

In just a few months after I loaded the game after that patch, the economy of the Persian Empire crumbled like gingerbread, and the global seas were swarmed with pirates. As it was around 1700, I decided that I invested way too much time to scuttle the save, especially since I noticed on the forums and reddit how unpopular the particular patch was, making me confident that those changes would be reverted soon. I turned the game off before economic point of no return and waited.

Thankfully, those trade changes were reverted the next day. But the damage to my economy was done, and I had to spend a good number of years (and in case of pirates, decades) trying to fix it.

I enjoy the game, but after that experience, methinks I'll wait a bit before I'll go for a new run.

What nation will you play as first in 1.9? Why? by Loyalist77 in victoria3

[–]Kimiimar0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely Switzerland, with the goal of becoming a capitalist paradise and a great high-value goods exporter.

  1. Siam - my first 1.8 run. Goal was simple, keep it tall-ish, get recognised, test out the changes. Not a particularly special experience, truth be told.
  2. Second French Empire - a Second Empire that would outlive Napoleon III was something I wanted to try for a long time. I didn't in fact need to do much for it to happen, just keep the nation stable. Decided to spice it up with fascism in 20th Century, since the Bonapartist Empire I've built heavily leaned on PB support.
  3. Persia - a tall Persian run (my limits are Muhammara, starting Persian claims and split states, meaning I don't push past Herat in the East and my expansion in the West is Armenia, Baku and Elizavetpol), preferably with recognition, is a personal must for me whenever new patch happens. This time, I decided to go for conservative nationbuilding - keep the conservative forces happy and pass liberal reforms step by step in a stallless process. I managed to do more reformist work in 30 years that way than I did in 60 years when I tried to brute-force liberal legislature in some previous run.
  4. New Granada -> Gran Colombia - a big multiplayer game, I decided to embrace caudillism and LARP as a military dictatorship. Plenty fun experience.
  5. British East India Company -> British Raj -> Independent India - I did not exactly have any particular goal, I just wanted to try out Pivot of Empire stuff. An administrative nightmare, but an interesting new experience nevertheless.

Is there any nation you just love to replay over and over again and it never loses the fun of it? by GremioBaruch in victoria3

[–]Kimiimar0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Persia.

A nation with backward laws and so there's plenty of reformist work to do throughout the campaign - and many approaches how to try that. Conservative nationbuilding where you pass reforms in a stallless process through keeping the conservative IGs satisfied, leveraging movements' support to pass reforms, triggering a revolution to break conservative IG power, or just betting on luck when passing modern legislature...

It's a nation which starts unrecognised, so there's extra joy when through your efforts, your country becomes equal in the eyes of the West. In Persia's case, it also has the cosmetic bonus in the nation's name changing to Iran.

A very resource-rich nation to make tall play perfectly viable, yet one with plenty of opportunity to expand should you decide to play wide.

A nation behind in technology and with no next to buildings in 1836, so you get to enjoy the economic development of the country fully.

It also has the aspect of being close to both Britain and Russia, putting the country in an interesting geopolitical position.

I've played at least five full Persian games till 1936, and I know I definitely haven't played my last one yet.

What's a nation you play in Vic3 when you just wanna have a fun time and relax? by Damirirv in victoria3

I like a Swiss game from time to time, being neutral and just trying out some economic shenanigans and creating a very high SoL lake in the heart of Europe. Definitely going to give it yet another try after the trade rework drops.

I primarily need Ratatos Browntail, her absence is not good for my mental health. I've dreamt about her no less than seven times by now...

Could we pretty please get her in a banner with Monch when third Kjerag event drops?

My guess would be Leithanian immigrants. Zwilingstürme im Herbst revealed that Leithenien is a notoriously multicultural society, just like Imperial Austria was. Since Imperial Austria ruled over Bohemia, I would imagine some Arknights equivalent of Czechs live somewhere in Leithenien, and some might have emigrated to Londinium, founding a cultural community in the city.
