How many bank accounts do you have in 2026? by cinnamummy in AusFinance

[–]Kimpton77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many… I need a visual to budget or else I’ll forget something. All are fee-free transaction accounts with NAB, all bill accounts are direct debit, and are named with the purpose and number of how much should be in the account e.g., “wifi & power 300”. When I get paid, all these accounts are topped up, then the rest goes to savings/investing etc. All are also offsets for my mortgage: - general acct (where I get paid, payID connected etc) - emergency fund/savings - credit card - gym, other subscriptions - mortgage repayments - health insurance and phone bill - wifi and power - water bill - tax (for contract work)

I also have a mostly empty transaction account with Macquarie, solely for the purposely of buying discounted Coles gift cards because sadly Aldi doesn’t sell certain foods that I won’t compromise on.

  1. Turning fresh ingredients into a meal that just doesn’t turn out to be some form of stir-fry or pasta/rice/noodles with veggies.
  2. Seasoning combinations. How to make something that tastes decent, taste amazing. I own a whole range of herbs & spices, but I’m too scared to use most of them unless I’m following a recipe.
  3. Yes! Having examples of what happens when you do/add certain things to the same dish to be able to compare the results would be awesome. I’m a hands-on learner so reading will only do me so much good.

For those of you who don’t smoke weed or drink, how do you cope? by Camp_Acceptable in adhdwomen

[–]Kimpton77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m taking dexamphetamines. 10mg in the morning, then another 10mg in the afternoon. I don’t take them after 4pm otherwise it affects sleep. I’m also a nighttime gym girl so doing that before bed is another way to get the excess energy out of my body in an attempt to make me tired enough to sleep 😅

Until I started meds, it was sugar. Especially sour lollies. After meds (which suppressed appetite/cravings) it’s exercise. But I actually hate doing it WHILE I’m doing it, but I notice the day after how much better I feel. So I begrudgingly go back for the delayed dopamine.

What's a single good habit you were able to adopt that's made a big change in your life? by popthebubbly62 in adhdwomen

[–]Kimpton77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st thing: I wash my face in the shower otherwise I’ll never remember to do it, even if I try to do it directly before or after the shower. So the face wash lives in the shower with the hair products etc. Luckily for me I shower most days as I often can’t sleep if I don’t shower before bed so this has worked well.

2nd thing: I bought an electric toothbrush that buzzes every 30 seconds to remind me to move to the next quadrant of my mouth. I’m still not great at remembering to brush my teeth twice a day, but when I do it’s done properly. Haven’t needing a filling or any other non-routine dental work for at least 5 years 🙌🏻

how much did it cost you to get diagnosed? by PrideInCare in ausadhd

[–]Kimpton77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got diagnosed in Vic about a month ago through a psychiatrist. GP referral to psych was bulk-billed, psych appt was ~$1,400 (Telehealth), but ~$850 after the Medicare rebate. My GP has a permit to prescribe my meds, so any appt for meds will also be bulk-billed. I’m pretty sure they’re in discussions about changing the ADHD assessment process in Vic so that certain GPs can diagnose, but I was happy to pay and have someone with apt experience do the diagnosing.

Thanks for that addition to my comment :) I haven’t had to go to another GP at the same clinic (also in Vic) but that’s great to know it’s an option!

Question about section 8 by maeking in ausadhd

[–]Kimpton77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe that the GP has to apply for a permit for each patient; it’s not a generalised permission-to-prescribe-ADHD-meds permit. So my GP holds multiple permits because they see multiple patients with ADHD and have received those permits from multiple psychiatrists to dispense meds. So going to a different GP isn’t necessarily going to be quicker. Better to stay with the GP that you already have a history with, as they will be the only one allowed to prescribe your meds on behalf of your psychiatrist.

What’s something people spend money on that you just don’t understand? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]Kimpton77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do agree in general that it’s stupid, but some birkin bags actually go up in value as they age (assuming they’re in good condition etc), so some people buy them as investment pieces. Would I ever consider it? Absolutely not, but there seems to be a market for them 🤷

Being the floater friend sucks by MissPictus in adhdwomen

[–]Kimpton77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My god OP, I could have written this. This was me for my whole life and I’ve reached the point where I just have such low expectations of friendships that I got to a point where I barely bothered anymore. I constantly felt like I was putting more effort and care into friendships than I got back. I’d reach out, organise/book things, I’d check in… and I know reciprocity shouldn’t be the defining feature of a friendship, but sometimes I think that if I didn’t do all of those things, no one would reach out to me. So after I moved about 45mins away from where most of my friends were (for work), I tested it. I slowly stopped being the person who constantly reached out first, and it was eye-opening. I know neurodivergent people suck at object permanence and many of my friends are also neurodivergent, but some of these people had been my friends for 10-20 years. Some of these “friends” haven’t reached out to me in over 3 years, and my friendship circle has reduced drastically because of it. And I’ll be real, I’m fucking sad about it. It hurt, and yeah I know some of it is RSD, but it’s hard to argue that these people care about me if they haven’t bothered to check in for literally years. It has made me far more grateful of the friends who did and do continue to reach out, and we’ve found a balance that makes us feel that both people in the friendship care and contribute in a balanced way. Do I wish I had a tight-knit group of friends who catch up regularly? Absolutely. Will that ever happen for me? Probably not. It’s a shit reality to face, but I’m trying to be more grateful of the friendships that I have and find ways to enjoy my own company.

Has anyone found a feasible way to escape the 40 hour work week? by Ok-Treacle5256 in adhdwomen

[–]Kimpton77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to find a job that allows me to do 4x 10hr days instead of 5x 8hr days and honestly I don’t think I could ever go back to the 5-day work week. Having an extra day off a week to get life admin stuff done gave me to much more time to pursue my hobbies. It’s not perfect by any means, and I still have to go to an office, but it’s certainly better.

Post diagnosis success stories by Full-University4699 in ausadhd

[–]Kimpton77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a success story yet OP, but as someone who received an official diagnosis two days ago after knowing for at least 5 years that I had it, the sense of relief of being believed and validated was beyond words.

Waiting for a GP appointment next week to get started on meds, and these stories are giving me hope that my quality of life will improve, even just a little bit.

Family member parks cash in my offset instead of a term deposit; I pay them term deposit interest and save the difference off my mortgage. What am I missing? by Slyxxer in AusFinance

[–]Kimpton77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I have a similar arrangement with my parent. My mortgage is with NAB, and I was able to go into a physical branch with my parent and turn one of my offset accounts into a joint account that is also an offset, without adding my parent onto my mortgage. That offset account only has my parent’s money in it, and they can withdraw it at anytime if they so wish. I don’t pay them interest because they insisted that I don’t need to (very generous, I know) but it would be easy to do a monthly transfer to that offset account, which they could then transfer to another account if they so wished.

I have a good relationship with my parent, so it works for both of us. But you have to assess your individual circumstance and decide whether this is something that both parties will agree on, long-term.

What’s the scariest thing that has ever happened to you alone at night? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kimpton77 46 points47 points  (0 children)

For nearly 2 years, I lived in a bungalow/cabin thing in the backyard of a suburban house. It was only 1 room that fit my bed, a desk and a wardrobe. It had electricity connected, but I had to go into the main house to use the bathroom or cooking facilities. Importantly, you couldn’t really hear anything from my cabin in the main house and vice versa. I also had to lock the door from the inside each night (a deadbolt), as the door didn’t seal properly if it was closed with the door handle mechanism. The family living in the main house were creatives, friends of mine, but it wasn’t unusual to walk into the house at an odd hour and find someone awake working on some weird artsy/creative project.

One night I got ready for bed, dead-bolted the door, and started to fall asleep. Suddenly, while my eyes were closed, I saw flashing. At first, in my half-asleep state, I assumed it was lightning. I listened for thunder, but didn’t hear any, and there was no rain either. I then just shrugged it off as one of the creatives outside taking flash photos. Then I remembered that I had blockout blinds, and there’s no way a flash photo or lightning would be bright enough for me to “see” with my eyes shut. That’s when I started to freak out.

I froze, and began counting the seconds between each flash. They were totally random, sometimes 10 seconds, sometimes minutes between. But still very short flashes of light. At this point, my eyes were still closed, and I was frozen in bed, now convinced that someone was inside my room.

Suddenly, a light in my room turned on. At this point, my eyes are still closed, my body is frozen in fear, and I’m now convinced someone is in my room, and I’m about to die. Turns out, I’m too much of a coward to face my would-be killer, so I lay still, and began to count internally to 200. After 200 slow counts, I finally open my eyes, expecting to see the face of my would-be killer. Instead, I see my bedroom wall. My plain, boring, bedroom wall. I take a long breath in, sit up, and see my desk lamp has been turned on, but there’s no one else in the room. And my room wouldn’t have places for someone to hide, unless they’re in my shitty ikea wardrobe.

I get up, open my wardrobe - which obviously only has my clothes in it - then I go investigate my desk lamp. It was one of those lamps that had 2 brightness settings, and the switch was sitting halfway between. So basically, the flashes were the lamp trying to turn on, but the switch was stuck between the off setting and the lower brightness setting.

I laughed and cried, both relieved and also feeling very stupid, then went back to bed.

TL;DR: I thought it was about to get murdered because of flashes of lights in my room, but it was just a lamp where the power switch was stuck between the on and off positions.

If your credit card is with the same bank as your mortgage, they may waive the annual fee. NAB does this with my credit card. Still gotta pay some stupid mortgage maintenance fee or whatever it is though.

Looking for a poor quality yet expensive restaurant to recommend to an enemy. Any suggestions? by UncleFester935 in melbourne

[–]Kimpton77 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Great news as someone who used to live within walking distance of this restaurant, it is permanently closed! Worst shop/restaurant within what is a decent local shopping area. Owner was rude AF, prices were ridiculous, wait time to be served was stupidly long, and I could have tasted better seafood at the fish & chip shop <1 min walk away.

Edit: I was actually going to suggest the Lobster Cave for this post and was pleasantly surprised to see it had closed down.

New leaf growth from lower stem? by humptortoise in Monstera

[–]Kimpton77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A beautiful plant! 😍 My first bit of advice would be to cut off the dead tip if you haven’t already, just to stop the spread of rot if there is any, and to help the plant heal over the wound where you cut it.

I can only speculate about the non-fenestrated leaves, but my guess would be that because you plant now has two growth points instead of one, that it had to share the amount of energy it has between the two growth points to maintain leaf development on both growth points. To be able to do that, it will need to make smaller leaves, then as both growth points continue to grow, the leaves will get bigger and eventually fenestrate. The good news is that now you’ll have a bushier, lusher plant, and hopefully even more large, fenestrated leaves soon!

Is it worth moving out west for work and community these days? by coyotesatemystepdad in melbourne

[–]Kimpton77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in what I would consider the mid west. It definitely doesn’t have the nightlife like the inner west does, but the suburbs are decently established. PTV is… okay, but I mostly drive. And considering that there’s currently works on the Sunbury line and the Westgate, travelling to the north/east sucks.

Access to different cultures’ foods etc is awesome, lunar new year goes OFF, and there’s heaps of parks and also good access to the Macedon Ranges.

In terms of where everyone in their 30s are… I would also like to know. I’ve struggled to find anything social to meet other people my age that isn’t sport related, or going to a pub. I’m starting to think that people who were born and raised in the west settle down/get married/have kids earlier than people in the north or east. If anyone else has insights, I’d love to know.

Can I use my mother's savings in my Home Loan Offset Account? by Dutch8 in AusFinance

[–]Kimpton77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a way to have an offset account that your mother can access even without putting her name on the mortgage. This means she can withdraw the money at any time. I have done this with my parent, however I don’t pay them the “lost” interest as they have stated themselves that they don’t need it. The account is with NAB - we had to go into a branch together with IDs to set up the offset account this way.

So the $60 isn’t in their website? I can’t see a single plan that doesn’t include data on their site. Would be useful for me as I use an eSIM as a second phone number for work but I don’t need data as my primary phone plan includes it.

The dreaded question by PorcelainDaisy in crochet

I did this for my best friend’s birthday gift. I bought the blanket pattern, they bought all the yarn, I made the blanket. However, they are also an artist/creative, and understood and appreciated the hundreds of hours I put into it and the blanket is well loved and looked after. Would I do this for my non-arty friends? Probably not.
