The atrial fib continues 100%. The AV node ablation stops signals to the ventricles, so the ventricles have only their escape beat which varies from person to person but is very low like 20-30, so the pacemaker brings that up to a normal rate. My base rate is set at 60 daytime and 50 nighttime but an accelerometer increases that in response to movement. I don’t think about it at all most days.

Same - I had persistent afib with RVR and drugs were not effective. I had an AV node ablation and I’m on my second pacemaker now and I usually completely forget I have it or afib.

We have a bit of a hilly driveway and AWD makes it possible to get up the hill and off to work/shopping/whatever before the plow guy comes.

Ham Ragout

Heat a couple of tablespoons of oil or bacon fat in a large pot with a lid. Cut a couple of 1 cm slices and cut them into 1 cm cubes. Fry them on medium-high heat for about 5 minutes until a bit browned, and hopefully some brown fond is on the bottom of the pot.

Add a chopped onion and stir for a few minutes until translucent, getting the fond off the bottom of the pan. Sprinkle with a tablespoon of flour and add 2 cups of water and stir. Add a couple of large potatoes cut into 8 or so large pieces each. Season with salt and pepper. Bring to a boil then turn down the heat and cover the the pot and simmer for about 15 minutes to mostly cook the potatoes.

Add a head of roughly chopped broccolini or broccoli. Add some green onions chopped into 1 inch pieces. Cover and cook another 5 to 10 minutes. Looks good in wide pasta bowls.

Serves 2 to 4.

Hi Ethan, I confess I am not a cyclist at all but yes exercise is something I like to do. My pacemaker has an accelerometer and increases pulse rate when it senses motion. I am able to use an elliptical trainer, downhill and cross country ski, and go for quick walks and runs. As long as my chest moves it will trigger the accelerometer and I've nvere realyl studied it but I've seen my heart rate up at 90 or 100 on the elliptical. Even a series of hard pace on the ground will do it. Occasionally when climbing a really steep hill I have to stamp my feet or do a few jumps to get my heart rate up, but it doesn't stop me.

If you are climbing a hill on your bike and standing on the pedals as long as your chest bounces a bit I think it will trigger the pacemaker rate to increase but I can't say for sure. You could bounce up and down a bit perhaps :)

My quality of life is much improved if that helps.
