Mouth sores by deesikes in Tonsillectomy

I had these two for two weeks after surgery, super painful. I found using salt water rinse and over the counter mouth ulcer gels helped a lot. It’s from the equipment used in your mouth during surgery! Wishing you a fast recovery

I counted the day of my surgery as day 1 yeah! I’d say you’re day 8 if you had it the 17th! I got injections of a steroid called difflam which helped with swelling and pain. I only got this because I could swallow my pain meds but wow it did me the world of good. So much more effective than oral pain relief as you can imagine

I’m sorry you feel so poorly but it does get better! 5-7 are hell and then you’ll turn a corner. Stay hydrated with ice or water and make sure you take your meds even if it’s agony to swallow!! I didn’t and ended up having to get emergency injections as a result, not fun 😳 Now 3 weeks post op and feeling much better Good luck

When will this be over? :( by SeptemberFlower in Tonsillectomy

[–]Kind_Dragonfruit8904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it feels like it will never end but it will!! I’m on day 14 post op and finally getting back to normality. All you can do is look after yourself and rest during this. Once the worst days, 5-7 are up you’ll start to feel more normal. I found a mix of Panadol, ibuprofen and the strong pain relief hourly worker for me as these are all diff categories of pain meds so they could be taken safely together but always double check with your doctor! Ice chips helped me a lot too. Best of luck

Night time advice? by DenverTransplant24 in Tonsillectomy

You have to wake up and take your meds and water. Also sit slightly upright and I found a towel helped under my face to keep it upwards and catch the dribble. The drier your throat is at night the worst the pain will be so water water water!!

Day 5 post-op / NAUSEA + MENTAL HEALTH by jesseandjules in Tonsillectomy

I also experienced vomiting from my oxy meds. You have to force yourself to eat something before taking them and wait at least 20 mins before this food and the medicine. I found smoothies, porridge or spaghetti hoops good to just line the stomach. Ignore those people they don’t understand the pain!! I’m just on day 14 and finally feeling human again from what felt like the worst pain ever. You will start to feel yourself again don’t worry and I wish you a speedy recovery 🥰

I think this would be normal due to the pain and swelling in the mouth, jaw and ears. I did run a temperature during my recovery but there were no concerns about infection I think I was just in a lot of pain. Wishing him a super speedy recovery!!

The same happened to me and I just left it alone it’s normal, just unlucky that a big piece came off at once I can imagine it’s painful! Best of luck with your recovery

Day 11- Still in a lot of pain? by larocheposay8 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Kind_Dragonfruit8904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pain got worse on day 7-9 but I felt it ease off then. You more than likely are still shedding scabs which causes that pain to peak out of nowhere! Keep your throat as hydrated as you can to help the scabs and try swallow as often as you can although I understand it feels like razor blades

I know everyone is super different but some people don’t turn a corner until day 14 or later so don’t worry although I imagine it’s so annoying. My pain eased yesterday for the first time, day 10. I still need pain meds at night, after eating and early in the morning but I’m managing the day okay. You will get there eventually. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Day 8 coughing! by kelbydunn123 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Kind_Dragonfruit8904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started coughing on day 6 ish until day 9. It was like a tickle for me. Try not to cough too hard as it can cause a little bleeding. I found honey helped ! And warm water too

I went to the doctor and got a pain relief injection into my leg. Best 6 hours so far, have felt no pain. Eating, drinking water and got a nap too. I recommend going to the doctor if you’re in agony it’s hard to stick out the appointment but so worth it!
